I made it and it wasn't bad at all, the VA treated me like a king, I as absolutely floored with treatment of me. They used Versed and they asked me to count to 20 backwards. I remember 17 and I remember nothing whatsoever after that. I was feeling just lovely for about maybe a minute - I'm pushing it but the Versed is amazing stuff. The next thing I remember is kissing my wife who was so emotional because before I went into surgery and before the Versed it was 7:15. She came in to say goodbye and I didnt get out of SX until 11:40am. The surgeons who talked to her after surgery said the surgery went excellent no complications. Anyway I can say that the pain I had before the SX is nothing like "discomfort" I'm having now because I'm having no pain, it's discomfort. I felt so blessed having made it out of surgery, all that fear and anxiety was all for naught and I still have this awesome site!!

By the way they did in fact use propofol which I remember REMEMBER ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AS A RESULT OF THE VERSEDE, which I was given first. I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out so please ask me how things went and this way you will trigger some memories. I dont feel like million bucks but I can say I feel like a thousnd bucks. Last night I took two oxycodone at 11:30 and I didn't take another two until 6:30. I would say thats a good sign already as far as keeping up on the meds on boards.

thank you jamie i understand i do realize Jo mentioned that to me in the past, i apoligize for making that mistake yet agin...anyway im a happy guy that i made it through SX i have to be honest i didnt think i would it through, life is good today in every sense of the word, my hip is pretty sore but nothing like how i felt before the surgey, i dont want to get ahead of myself but i am almost feeling fabulous and thatd saying something because all i said from the day i joined this aesome site was i feel miserable, not anymore those ays are over.

It is a miracle isn't it, this surgery !

You have a lot of healing to do and slow and steady wins the race... So take it is easy buddy.. But wonderful it is all over for you and that your experience has been a far better one than you expected.

@Jamie: will webe able to move Rich over to the post op side now do you think?

So good that it is all over for you Rich... Post when you are up to it and read the journeys of others in the post op side this will help you too.

Im now dealing with another issue, i cant remove my bowels, i have the urge, i have cramps like you read about, bend me over cramps but everytime i try and do my buisness nothing happens, any suggestions at this point would be nice i thought this recovery thing was suppused to be relatively uneventful.

Yes this is a problem we all go through. - sadly..

There is a very good article in the library from Jo regarding constipation.

It is because of a variety of reasons, the drugs during surgery and the pain meds now.

Lots of members find that prune juice is helpful and drinking lots of water helps.... But have a look at the article in the library.. What you may need is a stool softener

No absolutely not, moving it to the post op side with the same title that you have on this thread just means that you will find it in the post op side rather than pre op, because now you are officially post your surgery.

This gives more members the opportunity to come chat and spend time with you.

For you, when it is moved all you would have to do is go to 'Post Op' and your thread would be there xx

Try any product like senokot, it was the only thing that worked for me , even the milky stuff I got in the hospital didn't do it , I have a packet packed for next week .....But don't worry it will happen may take a few days

Yup perfectly normal! The emotional upheaval of waiting pre-op, going through surgery, being given lots of drugs, relief of having a new hip, relief of getting home and back to your family - yup it does a roller coaster number on your mood for a while - just go with the flow - this too shall pass Over the next few months the good days will become more and more frequent, and you'll be up and moving around, every day in every way getting better and better.

Rich - I am so delighted to see you on the post op side - and from what you've written it sounds like every thing went well for you. And so, being the somewhat snarky soul that I am, and because someone's going to say it eventually ====

Deb constitently all of you have been right but i needed to go tnroug this on my own and until i did i was going to be filled with fear and even anger, the waiting killed me and was the toughest espe ially when it got close to surgery, but i made it and im now a happy guy' thank god i made i to the recovery room...now its time to move torward my rehab i will do the physical rehab and whatever tey ask of me afterall it wont be to much to ask from.

Hi Navyvet,I know exactly what you mean. I am 28 days post op now but for the first 4 days after my op I kept getting very emotional and wanted to cry, but I didn't know why. So yes it is normal. As for the constipation, mine was exactly the same, I ended up in agony with all the cramping in my gut and nothing coming out. I kept taking sennacot and drinking prune juice but it made it worse. I had to resort to a glycerine pessary, which cleared the blockage within 15 minutes,and I have felt fine since. a word of warning don't let it stay blocked for long as the longer you leave it the worse it gets. I will try anything at this point but like my wife just i have not eaten since the the surgry and anythng i have eaten i have used, i just want the/cramps to go awaym they are hurtng me now she wants me to eat an i keep telling her im not hungry and i have no appitie its that simple.
