TKR Hopefaith's Ups and Downs of Recovery

Can you wear them to weddings??????????

Do you mean like on my own wedding day when I wore golf shoes to the ceremony? When she "questioned" why I was wearing golf shoes I said, "This isn't going to take all day is it?"

I wanted to get some hiking boots with the 5 inch heels.
That way they won't slip on hills & I can climb trees & utility poles with them.
Plus they make my but look sexy.

Well, you won't find me checking out your butt to confirm that or not! :bignono:

@msmechanic58 I love my OS. He was very kind at my 6 week. I am just afraid my bend has decreased and what he will suggest.
How are your knees? Sounds like one is doing a lot better than the other?

My knees are my knees. I got scolded for saying they were in charge and had names. Pt says when you give them that power you give up your own power to keep up. They push me but stop when I say. He always says one more time - 3 times in a row. Lol. My ROM was 115 in both on Thursday. I think that whichever one I work first gains the most and them I'm too tired to move the other. Lol.

@dogwheels
What a rich perspective you have. I have heard rubbers meaning those rubber coverings for our shoes we used to wear in the 60's when it was raining. That was the only meaning I knew. I have also heard rubbers meaning the erasers. Then there is the "other" one. (:
So don't curse me if you hate the vionics! I hope you love them!

Love the golf shoes @Phil75070 - do you happen to know if they come in a spangly, sparkly bejewelled option?
:rotfl:

@dogwheels No, but from what I have read if I had your talents they could end up looking that way!

Shocking! [emoji6]

At least you didn't find the open-toed pink ones! I would be so embarrassed if you had!

Oh, the strangest thing just happened. A Jehovah's Witness just came to the door so I invited him in, offered him a a glass of cold iced tea and sat down with him. I said, "So, what is it you wanted to talk about?". He said, "I have no idea! No one has ever invited me in before!"

......all on hopefaith's thread....the philosophical, calm, never ruffled hopefaith's thread.

( I hope you all are :rofsign: . . . . .)

Ha ha @Phil75070 - I could so embellish those golf shoes of yours!

Perhaps you now know why my husband is not a golfer. I offered to customise the spinnaker on his boat ............................ the reply was unprintable.

Good morning and afternoon!
Hot pink for fun!

@cafecortado I have missed you. I would love to hear how your knees are.@Nana moon 27 So good,to see you back! How was your time away? @chestnc I am thinking of you and your exhaustion, and pain. Do those symptoms lessen if you are able to rest a lot (which with all you do at home and work I know is nearly impossible!). When you fell asleep at your desk...wow that just shows the depth of your exhaustion.@71Beetle I am so glad your full recovery is now underway. I hope the pain levels are manageable. (Pain has a whole new definition for me since my TKR)@greeneyedtattedgirl I hope you continue to have better days. Please be kind to yourself on a hard day. I often lose perspective when I have a not so good day. I also hope you are able to take the meds. that manage your pain.@Judlepip You sound so down about your knee. Do you have pain/swelling when you do very little? I am not sure, that is why I ask. @busylizzie I think you may be close to the end of the antibiotics. I think I know the misery of being on them. I googled information on that once. Emotional symptoms are a side effect for some. I hate it when I have to take them. I am happy about your knee! That is good news!
@Pumpkln Swimming? :) @kneeper How is your recovery going? I am going to be wandering around today, so I will check in.

Thinking of you all and appreciate you all so much.

So, I have some questions, not trying to offend, just trying to understand this whole TKR recovery. So, I am at 3 months minus a few days. My knee, still needs a lot of icing/elevating/medicating per day. I read recovery can take up to a year (or more). So, here is my concern/question. I don't hear a lot of stories on here of people who say their recovery took approximately 1 year, and (after that year) are doing wonderful. I do hear on here, however people who around 6-9 months are looking at a revision because their recovery is not faster or what they thought it would be. Again, I am seeking answers only.
So, I would love to hear from folks who say yes, after 9,12,15 months of very difficult recovery I am doing well. I hear that recovery is that long, so I wonder where those people are that feel fantastic, but it took months to get there.
I do read on here ones who are up and about in 2-3 months. Those are not the responses I am hoping for as I sit here icing and needing still to walk with a crutch 80% of the time.
I hope I do not sound hostile. I am frustrated.
(Maybe the fact they are not on here anymore is testament to my point, but it would be encouraging to us slowbies to hear those stories.)

Do you still like me? :what:

@hopefaith Just my opinion but I think how one perceives their recovery is progressing is by comparing it to not only other people but to one's own expectations. My OS probably painted a worst case scenario for me, telling me that I would probably be using a walker for 6-8 weeks. That would imply, at least to me, several weeks after that using a cane or crutch. So when mt PT told me at my first session, 2 1/2 weeks post op to go ahead and start using a cane, even that early I was pretty ecstatic with where I was.

My knee still looks swollen though much reduced from weeks earlier. I still get clicking, stiffness, a "pinch" of mild pain at 3 1/2 months post op, but I compare those feelings and sensations to the pain I was feeling pre-op and I could not be happier. I don't know if, for me, those sensations will ever go away but they are such an improvement that I don't care if they don't. I was at a point where I could not have continued to play golf (my passion) and do many other things that I enjoy. I recall being on our one and only cruise (to date) and having difficulty going up and down stairs due to the arthritic pain. I don't want to be like that again.

That "one year" recovery is for EVERYTHING to have healed 100%. Recovery of full functionality will not take that long, I believe.

Do you still like me? :what:

Nobody else may but I still do!

Hiya Sweet Pea! You know I'm just at 6 months, but I think you also know how loooong this 6 months has beeN. . I was very discouraged, frustrated and (kinda) ticked. I still haveNY challenges, but I am getting better. You will too! I think the nature of this site is a bit deceptively skewed. Those that don't have issues/challenges don't go looking for a forum such as this. Once those that have had challenges and then get better and ARE happy with their replacements just sort of go on to live their lives as they no longer need help. People come back and post, every now and again, how well they are doing, so keep the faith my friend. I wish I knew short cuts to offer, but there aren't any. This recovery is long, defeating, frustrating and painful. It gets better though. I refuse to belbelieve anything else.

I am sure your appointment goes great tomorrow. Be sure to write down any/all questions you may have for your OS. That's what he's there for. Xoxoxox

A bit late to the variety of "English" party--but I was just reading a book set in England where a character was buying "streaky bacon." Having had something they called "bacon" when I had a vacation in England a few years ago I knew that English bacon is not like US bacon--it's a little bit like "Canadian bacon." I think "streaky" must be like US bacon as the term seems to describe what we eat.
