THR Hippity Doo Dah!<

I wish I could hide this message from Sarah but slept through 6 hours last night.

I usually laugh out loud at least once while on the forum and your post above with the shrinking font won today's "laugh out loud".

I hate to admit that I'm really just catching up on your thread. I see so much of you cheerily bouncing around elsewhere, offering reassuring advice that I haven't given you much thought other than laugh at your jokes and assume you're doing well! I'm sorry about your knee. I guess I am wondering also if it simply wasn't bothering you due to the meds early on and all of the rest, not bearing much weight. I hope it eases though....time will tell.
Wishing you comfort and a lovely weekend!
@Carriemay60

Re the rollator. You described it perfectly Carriemay60. I do have to say I thought it would run away from me as at the hospital they told me to not use it until I am stable on my feet. Once I started using it I realized it has hand brakes like on a bike and has the 2 locks on the handles too. It is a life saver. I know what the triangular walkers are but that is different.
It took a couple weeks but sitting in the car for me (a Subaru Forester) is nice and reminds me of a recliner seat. I have the seat all the way back and then adjusted up a bit. Sometimes I feel like going out there to sleep but it would be too cold. So hopefully soon you won't mind the car.
Re the outdoor shower. I haven't gone when its pouring rain and chilly but if its not raining its ok as the water is hot. I couldn't do it if it was freezing or snowing. I had an outdoor shower in Mexico once and Bali but they were beautiful. This is just a commode sitting lonely on the back deck with our garden table and we bring the hoses in from in the laundry room to stretch out there. The hose has a garden hose handle on it to open and shut off water. Its in the wide open so if anyone came on the property or was standing at the 2 houses next door they could see me in all my glory but I can tell when they aren't there and there are so many trees and bushes it makes it ok..
It is hilarious though and I do love it. NO risk of falling like in the shower/bathtub.
I hope you get out for a tea soon and that you and your son have fun cooking.

The pain in my groin is still beyond my comfort level as evening approaches even maxed out on painkillers. I keep catching myself all tensed and clenched in my hip and thigh. Have to concentrate to release it but then it creeps back in just a minute or two? Ice might be helping a tiny bit but not much. I'm thinking it might be contributing to the groin pain. Any ideas?

Is it pain or stiffness @Carriemay60? I found walking it off helped at this time of night & then laying down with a hot water bottle on my back enabled me to relax..
Hope it gets better for you xxx

None to speak of Sarah. Ankle rotations and a very small amount of walking in the house. I think it must have been my walking yesterday. I was putting almost no weight on my walker and walking almost like a normal person. Pushed too hard I think. @SarahBee

I felt comfortable helping in the kitchen a bit tonight so sat in my wheelchair with a cutting board and sliced some veggies for BBQ burgers. Sadly my husband got "hangry" and didn't cook them long enough so enjoyment was lost on me :sorry:. While in the kitchen I moved in my chair and clipped the dog's paw which startled all of us and she let out quite a yelp. My first total teary meltdown soon followed. Took me forever to quit crying :bawl:
Thankfully she has still been generous with little visits and kisses. I felt horrible!

Awww bless you love. I had a complete meltdown the other night at Tony... I have never in the all the years we have been together used the 'f' word at him... or anyone else for that matter... On Thursday night I told him to eff off.... he was so utterly astonished with me and shocked and ashamed at his lack of compassionate nursing skills ( totally devoid)and selfish behaviour that he is now a reformed husband.

:hi:Hope today is a better day.
Our fur babies are forgiving and thankfully learned quickly.
I used a two wheeled walker for my recovery...so it couldn't roll away from me. My little Shihtzu Mojo has always stayed close...well underfoot actually...but after the walker caught his tail once, and then pinched his foot...he reckoned he would just FOLLOW me around.:heehee:
Have a peaceful Sunday...

Doggies are so very forgiving... one treat & they are back!!!
Bless you both .... I’m afraid the swear words have been used here too ....[emoji51][emoji51] It’s natural frustration with not being able to do things yourself (and having too high standards )
A good eff & blind does the power of good for venting... [emoji57]

Good Morning @Carriemay60 So sorry about your dog and that you felt sad after. It sounds like you are so capable already. Impressive kitchen skills! If your groin pain feels tight, it may be ligaments and muscle giving you trouble. Lots of sitting does that to me. I do firm massage in that area and now my right arm, hand, and elbow from prolonged leaning. Massage also helps with fluid drainage.

Your description of walkers and Rollators was excellent. I did order one. Excited to get out more with real tires. My balance is already pretty good. Hoping I’m not tempting fate. That image of me flying behind my walker is funny, but wouldn’t end well I’m afraid. Happy Sunday! :loveshwr:

@Carriemay60 I still get that pain in my groin an have decided its from doing too much. It has happened twice from being at PT and not from the exercises we did. He is excellent as I have gone to him for years but I realize the main thing he does isn't working for me right now. He takes your leg and gently massages it and lifts it and moves it around. It has twice taken me 2 days to get rid of the pain. Painkillers help but as per this forum I totally see sometimes for hips some things PT does doesn't help. When I walked too much in a grocery store I ended up with the groin pain. So maybe you either sat too much or walked too much. The first days after using the cane by nighttime my groin hurt again. I figure that is because I am doing more weight bearing.
I would say continue doing what you are doing but also take it easy too.
You have come so far so soon and that is fantastic!

@lotusbuds Thanks! I saw you had mentioned this somewhere last night and have been thinking about it. I also caught myself this morning twisting a bit as I got out of bed, so need to fix that quickly. The first day home my bed was far too high for me so now just has the mattress on the IKEA slats and I think it is too soft making it harder to shift and rotate as I get up and coming close to my 90 degree restriction once I am sitting on the edge of the bed. I'm going to ask the guys to put the firm mattress back underneath today when they wash my sheets (which they don't know they are doing yet ). To be honest, I think I should be walking a bit more, certainly a bit more than yesterday which was really quite sloth like. I will try to find a happy medium today. Our house is small and quite chopped up with doorways, etc. so hard to get a good stroll going but too wet to try outside today.

My girlfriend helped my put fresh sheets on the bed and is an expert bed maker. It looked like a hotel made bed with no creases. I couldn't believe it. ha ha So enjoy those fresh sheets and yes get a firmer mattress to help you.
I had started practicing sleeping on my back in the summer as although I am a side sleeper both sides hurt before surgery. Its good as I can sleep on my back and now with a pillow between my legs on my good side. I am so ready to go on the operated side but with the swelling I have it doesn't work.
Last week I too felt I wasn't walking enough. So trust that but also take it from me and others who have posted doing too much results in over doing it and a set back. So keep walking inside and enjoy your day.
Sorry the weather is so bad out east. Here its damp and raining and a drag.

There really are few joys in life greater than clean sheets! Our weather today is very much like the BC coast or Wales today. Wet and gray! Apparently we are in for a very sunny, warm day on Thursday and a decent one Tuesday.

Chatting with my daughter and learned she was in theater for a knee and hip replacement during her RN training. She said the hip was indeed pretty rough. She also saw someone getting rods put in their toes and for her that was the worst to witness. @SarahBee she confirmed someone would have gripping your foot and leg pretty securely.

Carrie May , your posts have me giggling. Love the “reformed husband”! I had a few issues with mine during the first month of recovery. He was doing his best to help but it all had to be “his way”..... one evening he got drunk, shortly after I was home, and decided to “reset” my room whilst I was in bed. I was powerless as he moved things about to “make things easier for me”. However his judgement was impaired to say the least. This was at 1am....... at one point he tripped over a cable, fell over, and narrowly missed me. It was terrifying. My copious use of the F word must have woken up the entire neighbourhood and indeed I had an anxious call from my very kind next door neighbour the next morning. Hubby was very quiet and contrite the next day. He knew he was in the doghouse big time- and a few ground rules were set - including laying off the booze so that he could help and not hinder my recovery....After that he was much much better!
