THR Hippity Doo Dah!<

One week today! Hubby brought me a lovely big bouquet of pink carnations to celebrate. My daughter teased me that they are funeral flowers because pre-surgery I reminded him I would like tulips :) I would think he could remember that because my avatar on facebook is the same as here  They do look lovely though :)

So starting to feel like I might enjoy a little outing. Was thinking about a little push in my chair at the park just to see some sun and do some people watching but mostly to hit up a new ice-cream place here. BUT... it's SNOWING  This new ice-cream place makes Hungarian "chimney cakes" which looks like a sweet dough, wrapped around a cylinder, baked, and traditionally just dusted in sugar. This family is filling them with soft ice-cream amongst other things. I can hardly wait to try them but may have to skip at least one meal to be able to eat a whole one! Saturday is supposed to be quite nice.
I woke up to the alarm last night (instead of being too drugged to hear it), got myself in and out of bed without any problem so I am ready to let everyone else sleep and do my own stuff at night. I can always phone them if I get stuck but nice to reclaim any little bits of independence. I am weaning myself off the morphine a bit. Despite being told several times and having it written on my discharge papers to take medications exactly as Rx'd for the first two weeks, they don't give you enough pills to follow those instructions. I got my one & only refill allowance yesterday but they only refilled for 3 days, not the week. I am told I now have to make yet another appointment with my family doctor to get any further painkiller. Don't we all want to spend all our recovery time, getting ourselves presentable for, getting to and enduring multiple medical appointments? I already have my staples appt. with a nurse on Monday and my physio assessment on Tuesday next week.
I have had my fill of sponge baths so going to try a shower today. I have a transfer bench but I have to get my leg up 24 inches to get it over the edge of the soaker tub. I know it will be so worth it in the end though :happydance:

Oh wow! Such a coincidence! And I'm one of those theatrical geeks who always notices and comments on the lighting! Perhaps they should do an in depth study of the links between arthritic mothers and offspring in showbiz! Would make as much sense as other theories!

And the ice cream sounds dangerously gorgeous! Go for it...when it stops snowing! Yuk! Well done on the night time independence but take care. So unnecessary to be limiting your painkillers if they've been prescribed. Can you get hold of codeine instead? And won't anyone do home visits? I managed to snaffle a District Nurse in my first week to look at my incision. There's no way I could have got in the car. Tell the surgery you have flu/norovirus/chickenpox and don't want to infect anyone!

Ice cream and an outing sounds like heaven! Hope your bathing adventures are successful! I have my bench at highest setting and use it as a walker in the shower. Walk in, not tub. It works pretty well. I’m glad you are finding ways to find more independence. Enjoy your day! Let us know how the ice cream is.

Home nursing is one of the many cuts our healthcare is facing. Education is also getting hit very hard and yet our Provincial Premier has found millions for ad campaigns to promote one dollar beer, legal marijuana and is now changing all our car plates to say "A place to grow" instead of "Yours to Discover". At least we have our priorites right!
@bickypeg Our youngest son was lucky enough to do some lighting for Harry Potter at the Palace in London! I have tylenol #3 which has codeine so I have made an Executive decision to use that when not using morphine for break through pain. I still have almost a week of my long acting morphine too.

Hi @Carriemay60 did you manage to take a shower? I know just what you mean about sponge baths and can't wait until my leg is strong enough for me to chance a shower. I have said that Tony can use the watering can filled with warm water on the next nice sunny warm day. I can stand in the garden with a soapy sponge and he can rinse me off

@Carriemay60
Are you sure you're able to take a bath as opposed to a shower?
My OS advised no bathtubs, hot tubs, lakes, rivers etc for a couple months post op.
I know others were able to....but double check if you haven't already.
Happy Thursday! Snowing here too :snow plough: I thought it was Spring

What is a rollator @Carriemay60??
I’ve found 2 crutches so much easier to get about with.
Still can’t shower as my wound has a little bit that’s not healed yet! Can’t wait.

Wow @Carriemay60 , I'm in my week 6 and still not allowed to get in a bath, pool, etc. I guess their worried it's too much chance of infection that can still creep in. Better safe than sorry plus it gives me something to look forward to! :swim: P.S. Well DUH, I just realized that you're talking about the almighty sponge bath, not actually soaking in a tub!!! Oops!

Happy one week anniversary! Carnations are maybe not as beautiful as tulips, but they last well and I like their clove scent.
Here are some tulips for you from my garden: [Bonesmart.org] Hippity Doo Dah!<

You are sounding a lot better, I hope you get your shower and outing, which sounds wonderful, even if is through the snow. It has turned cold here too, everyone is grumbling after our wonderful February, although it is probably normal for April.

Was the hallelujah to celebrate the shower? Or something less mentionable?!

Re getting a sore butt, do you have a sheepskin? If you don't have one already, since they are not cheap, maybe a synthetic substitute would work, amazon can provide.

What is a rollator
It's a walker but with four wheels. It's great because it has a big basket and a seat that would also serve as a shelf to carry a plate, etc. My OS has zero tolerance for crutches citing too risky.

Absolutely no baths or pool for 3 months as per my OS. Sponge baths I was doing at the sink with a cloth but today had a shower. Our shower is in a soaker tub. It's 2 feet deep and the side is rounded out. Even with the transfer bench it was hard work getting my leg in. The tub is only so long so the leg had to bend a little past my comfort zone. No restrictions broken but the thigh & hip are still screaming!

@Fairydell I would highly recommend a transfer bench if your shower is in a tub but even with a walk in shower, I would recommend a plastic chair of some kind. (even those plastic garden chairs would help) I will probably use my bench for at least a month for safety sake. You might be able to rent one. I was able to sit to soap up and used the arm for support to stand, rinse off and pivot to wash hair. Despite being tired out, it was worth it and I feel wonderful :) My husband hung around. I avoided floundering around naked by just wearing a nightshirt until settled and tossed it out he curtain like they do in the movies - not as sexy I don't think though

@Klassy They edited out my poop emoji !!! Never lost 5 pounds so fast in my life! Thank you for the tulips, they are beautiful! It is sad they don't last longer. I just love flowers around me so much. I was very spoiled living in China with all the variety and so incredibly cheap. I used to keep 2 large vases in the livingroom windows with birds of paradise in them that had about 4 foot stems. I could get 4 or 5 stems for about a pound. Much to cold to go out today. I will save my ice-cream outing for a sunny day. I am now sitting on a cooled gel pack. So far feels quite nice.

@Carriemay60 My friend has offered to collect me and let me use her walk in shower when I feel up to it. My rump is oh so sore tonight. I have just taken two strong painkillers but can't sit for very long. Currently laid on my back with the sore bum cheek cradled in a gap in the sofa. …. don't visualise that... and now I can't stop picturing your dance of the seven veils.. did you peep seductively through the shower curtain :heehee:

Now that is a true friend!

@lotusbuds hubby has built her an outdoor shower using hot water from the laundry room but I think her little 'Garden of Eden' is on a pretty secluded property.

@Hoppy Nanny I meant to clarify earlier that all my dressing is waterproof so for the purposes of getting wet, there was no restriction of when. More just when I felt up to it. Last time I found a waterproof film I could put over my incision to shower and then it peeled off easily. They often use it over IV points, it almost looks like skin.

It's my knee giving me nightmares right now. I assume because I had to bend it to get my leg over the side of the tub. I'm running out of ice packs for all the places I want to ice! :ice:
