THR Hippity Doo Dah!<

@Carriemay60 - I had groin pain for quite a few weeks. I asked my surgeon who explained that it was due to very week adductors as a result of bad OA. My muscles had atrophied and it has been taking a while from them to get back to normal. My physio also had the same explanation. In my case no pulled muscles. It takes a while but at least I have found improvement every week.

Oh great to hear! @HertsHippy
It went away for a few days after surgery but seemed to come back with a bang! Have found a long tubular ice pack in my collection today which is tackling it much better.

Ditto to @SarahBee . I’ll be reading your story feeling full of angst for you, and then the next sentence I’m snorting with laughter.

I think the “no pain no gain” idea depends on definition of pain, and on the situation. If a healthy person wants to build muscle they have to exercise to the point of a gentle burning feeling. Some people would call that pain, but it’s nothing like. And after I broke my wrist, when the plaster came off I had very restricted ROM. I went to a physio who worked the hand back and forth to the point where I yelped to stop. That was pain of a sort, but it also felt kind of good. Also I knew he would stop when I yelped, and the pain stopped too. And the wrist had had 6 weeks of recovery while in plaster. After the THR, my hip wanted to be left alone to recover. It’s only now after 4 months that I feel ready for physio.

Right @Klassy . Even with knees I think PT is more of a necessary evil. So far my knees look okay but not great and I truly hope I don't have to be in the shoes of @Bionic and other TKR's ever! My mom refused PT for her knee and she has no ROM at all. To top it off he:whistle:r knee is now 15+ years old and they won't replace it due to age (92) and other health issues. I dare say she'll go hide somewhere eventually to get it done. She took off to Thailand for a tummy tuck & Boob job at 85 years. Come to think of it, she's been MIA since my surgery?

@se_florida speaks for me too! Talk about never giving in.

Maybe your Mom sees your post op recovery period as the ideal time to pop out for a butt lift.

I did think of asking the surgeon to give me a more shapely butt while he was in the area with a scalpel, but since I was only having one hip done I thought that would make me lopsided.

So sorry about you pain @Carriemay60 Glad the carrot cake and grand baby call helped. I went through PT about 11 weeks after my original pinning. One therapist was excellent, never pushed, the other was in the no pain no gain camp. While I don’t think PT is why my hip didn’t fully fuse, I don’t think it made much difference in muscle atrophy. Different surgeon this time, very firm, no PT. The two things he thinks matter is lying flat in bed and squeezing glutes and abdominal muscles. I agree, from my experience last time.

I was on strict, 30% weight baring that time and once I restored my gluteus and abdominal wall, I dramatically improved gait and reduced groin pain. That was at 11 weeks. Only took 2 weeks to get everything firing again. Everything is still healing, please listen to your body. Well meaning family have no idea what you’re going through. It’s crazy how strong some opinions are. The body showing you pain, is the only “voice” to listen to.

Hi @Carriemay60
I had PT twice and it caused groin pain and I hated the attitudes and nature of the movements at my OS physical therapy group. Second time was at 8 days out and they seemed unconcerned about pushing painful movements, then left me on table afterwards for fifteen minutes after my allotted icing.
I was tearing up and calling for her and she said "you are done, you could've gotten up"
I said "not with two freshly sawed off femers and hip implants. I need help"
I told OS I was doing fine with just walking and the simple exercises I could do by myself.
I did go back to the PT group of my choice after a few months for some targeted gait training as years with bad hips left me a toe walker.
Walking is the only PT new hips really need, so don't let folks push you.

You really do have a great sense of humor, and we don't want to have unnecessary PT quashing that by causing you pain!
Hope today is a Good Day, friend

@Mojo333 That must have been horrible for you to be left laying there. I would be in tears for sure as much from being worn out as frustration and anger.

I am going to stand my ground with PT on Monday to not cross the line into pain. I did my stretches yesterday just to the point of starting to feel a pull and stopping immediately and have no ill effects. I am not doing anything that resembles a lunge or standing on my op leg at all. I iced right after and wanted ice again about 2 hours later but no real pain and rather than aggravating the groin, it has started settling down. I think I might try walking just a little bit outside this afternoon. It's hard to get any flow going in such a little house.

I'm not sure I would call my mom a hoot; she can be a problem a lot of the time but some of the stuff she gets up to is pretty brave for her age. She has a passenger van that she has taken the seats out of and put in a mattress and she takes off all over the place in it camping and I do hope I can be that active at her age. But then she does things like argue with condo management about some tree blocking light from her unit. They refuse to do anything so she waits for a snow storm when everyone is off their patios and goes out and cuts the tree down. @Klassy , I am not sure she is fussed about her butt like she was with all the extra skin on her tummy and boobs but she was on about her knee just before my surgery and quite angry no one would replace it. Knowing her, that may be a clue to where she is right now. She disappears for as many as 4 months at a time on these spur of the moment trips.

@Carriemay60 At 85 years old, plastic surgery. And in Thailand. Wow she must be a real spit fire! I can't even find my boobs half the time but I sure don't want anything lifted or tucked at my age! Getting 2 new hips is good enough for me!

Mine are exactly where I left them... one under each armpit :heehee:

Oh gosh you ladies are funny!! (Sorry Billy & Chappy)

I have had such a fantastic day! Hung out with my son during the day, nice sponge bath & hair wash (need hubby home to do a proper shower). Had a fun video call with Arthur playing with colours. We went for Vietnamese for dinner which was delicious . I was really ready to get out of the house other than medical appointments. A little girl, about 2 years was blowing kisses to me non stop.
:loveshwr:
When we got home the boys brought my wheeled walker outside and I walked to the end of the next property line and back. 115 steps counted in my head. My daughter was supposed to send her fitbit bit one excuse after another, after another I am getting suspicious if might be getting one for my birthday in 2 weeks. Much easier to get a good stride outside and I am puffed right up with pride. My husband said he hadn't seen me walk that well in over a year at least. Icing now and waiting for a video call from the new baby and his big brother (9) and big sister (11). The big ones are always fun because my son puts them up to all kinds of wacky humour. I am completely loving life right now! :egypdance:
