Therapy will be uncomfortable, but like others have said don't let anyone hurt you. Maybe this pt person was trying to prepare people who somehow think this recovery will be a breeze. For most of us there's some challenge. But do-able.

@tiredwife @mark2667,@knees,@msmechanic58 Good evening. I took a break from reading and thought over the scare that I had at that meeting. I will proceed with my procedure. I am having a bad day of pain with both my knees and figure if I can deal with that pain, I can deal with the recovery. I have to look to the positive that the final outcome will be worth it. I will admit it she put the fear in me at the meeting, but I am not going to give her the control as I can say stop when it too much, she is not in control my knee is Amen. Thanks for the encouragement and to make me think about it. I was away from the reading too much today and going to refresh some reading at the library. So all have a great evening and thank you :happydance::egypdance:

@madinana Tell your PT right off the bat that you will not tolerate her causing you pain. All pain does is set you back.
I think you need a break from thinking about it. Read a good book, watch a good movie, anything - just get your mind off of it. Stress isn't good for you. Take care of yourself.

@madinana, Your surgery is before mine. I know I have just about read every article here on BS and have a lot of threads and everyone's encouraging words. But you know you can only be prepared so much and then you have to have the faith in your surgeon and his team to help you get to the other side (recovery). I know recovery will be rough but it must be doable if there is so many having TKR's. Just relax and try not to over think it.

Don't waste your energy ( tho we all have) about pain and help. Positive mental attitude. I have 13 stairs and went up to my bed and whenever I needed to right out of hosp. You will not be off your feet, you will be up right away. The biggest challenge is your meds. I had a little spiral notebook with a pen hooked on in a tiny tote bag with my meds and sudoku puzzles etc and always a fiber bar and snacks to eat with my pill. It can go on your wrist as you toddle around to bathroom or down stairs etc. Write every question that pops in your mind for family, or Dr, or store etc on separate pages. Since you will take meds by the clock and be drowsy this takes the pressure off.
I live alone and my 81 yr old dad stayed for 7 weeks. Wasn't needed but made him feel helpful and I cherished his company. He hears next to nothing so it was kinda funny because I did everything necessary from day one. I liked just having him in the house in case. Your husband I am sure will
be in better helping order. I even took tiny sacks of laundry and did myself working slowly. I was sitting on a stool and picking weeds at 4 weeks. It is a lot of work but you have pills for the pain. I had Hallucinations so dropped them at 3 weeks and was surprised at how much icing takes care of pain. once you go to PT classes you will meet other knee people and talk and share with them and you should just look fwd to it as a social . I was bone on bone and pain after in hospital was less from first trip to bathroom.

I know what you mean about having the company, @lovemynewknee? . Although my sister was a great help fetching & carrying etc., one of the other things I appreciated was just having her around.
I think it really helps your spirits if you live alone to have friends stop in occasionally (and I do mean stop in--not up for long visits). I am usually fine being on my own but when you are stuck that's a different thing.

@madinana Good morning! New hint - have a blanket handy at home. My husband has been cold, even when I am melting (could be hot flashes :heehee:). I have seen several people complain of feeling cold. We have been fighting over the thermostate. My theory is he can always cover with a blanket, but I can only take off so much clothes! :snork:

@tiredwife I just love your tips. We each have our own blanket, as we will watch tv and cover up. I mowed the lawn today helping with outside chores while I can I have 19 days until surgery, still getting nervous. As always :thankyou:for the tips, so much appreciated. I hope he is having a good day today and you too I am sure he is doing:ice:maybe that is why he is cold :rotfl:

..............I mowed the lawn today

@madinana I am looking for a new lawn service. What do you charge?

@msmechanic58 - yep!
@madinana You are very welcome, anything to help make it easier on you. We have our own blankets for tv too.
He says the pain isn't bad at all today, just stiff. We went out for barbque for lunch. We live in a very small town, so the place is really close. He really enjoyed the outing.
19 days isn't long at all. I'm sure you have every thing set up and ready, so just relax and get your mind off of it.:martini:

I have 15 acres of land. We do to mow all of it though. $10 an hour might break the bank here. Good thing hubby did ours!

Hi all, first time on here. I'm going in Friday the 27th of July. I'm a little nervous to but listening to you all really helped. I was wondering, I only have crutches to get along will I need a walker?

@Poodle girl, Hi, Welcome! My husband had walker, crutches and cane. At the hospital they probably have a walker for use there. Our house has stairs so my husband just switched to crutches when he got home. He was use to them because of clean out surgeries on his knees. After a few weeks he switched to a cane. The cane has a lot of uses - one of which is hooking the handle under the arch of the foot and using it to raise on lower your leg.

All of the advice I could think of is scattered through madinana's site (this one). There is good advice by many people on all the sites. Start your own thread and people will start the welcome.:happydance:
