TKR Had a difficult time, feeling better<

I had my CPAP meeting yesterday with the provider, discussed and reviewed the process and machine and masks. Took my device home with two nasal masks to try. After some trepidation I hooked it up and found the nasal pillow not terribly intrusive. I managed to keep it on all night. I think I can do it. The most annoying part is having to keep the thing clean, washing the masks, etc. I am looking forward to see the change in how I feel. I did wake up much earlier than usual, but we'll see if I'm tired in a couple of hours.

My knee has been achy and I wonder if it's the change in weather. I'm getting tired of feeling that everpresemt ache. I definitely was not the one to sail through this process. At this point I can't tell if it's my knee, or the tendon attaching to it. Still having pain using stairs. I don't have swelling, just pain. And some night zingers seem to be emerging and I'm assuming they are the nerves on that outer side of my knee reattaching. I don't mind them, as they pass quickly, but they do feel like an electric shock.

Ah yes, the year long journey.

Hi @mamazipp proud of you keeping the CPAP mask on all night. I hope you will get used to it and find it makes a big difference.
I think there must be a knee gremlin about, there seems to be a few of us having extra achy knees at the moment.
As far as not being one to sail through this process, you are not alone :hiking::hiking:

Stamina and stairs---were the two last aspects of my recovery to return.

I had those zingers, too--quite frightful but they went away quickly. If there is a positive from a negative, those zingers are a sign that your body is healing, reconnecting, and moving forward in recovery.

I'm so glad you got CPAP up and running. I bet, once you find the right fit, you'll not want to sleep without it.

Saying comfort prayer for you right now.

I know how much you want to feel totally well but look at the positive things you do have going on! That walk you described so beautifully and now your positive attitude with the CPAP. I'll bet once you adjust and start getting the sleep your body requires that you'll feel so much stronger. Rest well.

I do hope you find yourself more rested after a few more days. So many people report good results from using the mask.

Stay with the CPAP. So glad you were able to tolerate the nasal pillows and keep the mask on all night. I use nasal pillows and really like them. The cleaning routine is important and will become second nature in time. I've used CPAP for 4 months now and can't imagine sleeping without it. I'm able to check my progress every day using the the manufacturer's software. Good luck and here's to restful sleep and new knees!

Yes, @birdinger I love that part where you can check, and it sends a report to the company too,who communicates with the doc. It's pretty high tech. So reassuring to hear your positive results.

@Tabbycoat, we are fellow travelers on the long road with bumpy hills. I enjoy your company but hope we make some more gains soon?
Tonight is night # 2 for the new contraption so we'll see how I feel in the AM.

Going to bed now, hope everyone is well tonite.

It took me a few weeks to get adjusted to my Cpap and to start noticing a difference in how I felt, so don't give up if you don't see a big difference right away. It will come. Just keep using it. I also use a nasal pillow, and now I don't think I could sleep without it. It has made a big difference for me. I hope it will be the same for you.

The cpap will take a little bit to get totally used to. There is a machine you can get to clean it. It's a bit pricey, but works very well and you dont have to mess with it.

Hey, are you anywhere near where those storms are rolling in on the NW coast?

Did you get some sleep?

So, yes we are in the storms' path. Waiting for #3. #1 was a bust, #2 was pretty wild with ferries to and from either cancelled or stopped on route to ride out the storm in a protected area. Ferries are the lifeblood here so it's a big deal. I laid in lots of food and have some light alternatives. The power went out for lots here but so far I'm ok. Today so far is mild but the worst is yet to come.

I've been using my CPAP for 3 days now. It's interesting. I've been getting good sleep. The machine says I've had 1 episode an hour compared to 32 an hour in the sleep study. I've used the nasal pillow and it's fairly comfy but I'm waking up with a very dry mouth. I've upped the humidity per suggestion from the contact person. Tonight I'll try the other mask which is bigger, fits over the whole nose. They said I was a nose breather but now I wonder.
I know it's a process, just like our knee recovery.

My cat seems confused by this contraption over my face. She likes to nose butt me in the AM.

I'll be most interested in the cleaning machine. More info please, @dianehelen.

Hope #3 is a bust!

When I saw PC for preop, he said he wants me to have a sleep study after October knee heals. He's concerned about my need for oxygen while taking narcotic meds. So, thx for sharing your journey. It sounds remarkable! Glad kitty hasn't been totally scared away.
