Knee Infection Finally Finishing Up

I hope December is the magic month for you. What a long weary road this has been. Does your drain go into a container? I had two that were a pain, especially using the bathroom, but they fell out before I left the transition unit.

That's good news. Hopefully by the end of this year you will be finished with all your surgeries and on the road to recovery.

@KarriB ..It is one of those JP---suction drains. They actually have it stitched in place. I know that the one they pulled out it had 3-4 inches of tube that they pulled out.
@newlybionic Thanks..I hope so. Happy to see how well you are doing.

@PegGar16
Holy ****! I just read your story and you are so strong to go through all of this! I wish you the best of healing vibes and I bet you can't wait to be done with this for good!

You have such a positive attitude, which I'm sure helps with the healing!

Peggy, is the drain still collecting and is it collecting pus or blood?

@KarriB . It is still collecting serous fluid..not even enough to measure. PICC was taken out this morning:)

@ACDCJen Thanks. Hopefully getting to the end.

@KarriB. Here is a picture.

You have an amazing attitude. I am trying to imitate your positivity.

So glad you are improving and hopefully will get the drain out soon.

:flwrysmile:Wish I could give you a bouquet. Peggy, you should write a book when this is all over with! Last night I reread your thread and was amazed all over again.

The infection patient in me has questions. Are they analyzing the drain fluid?

Hi @KarriB! They have checked (especially with my history) and everything is clean. I had to run in yesterday because a spot opened on my other leg, where they took the skin graft. She wasn't surprised that there was a little fluid there, She said that she almost put a drain there during surgery but everything was so tight in the thigh. I tease that she could have taken some of the loose stuff around the belly :) While I was there they took out the last drain in the knee. It is so nice to be without tubing! I really like my doctors at Mayo. Instead of having me go to the ER when I called they waited at the clinic for me to get there. They are definitely getting candy filled pumpkins for Halloween :) My plastic surgeon is especially fond of atomic fireballs. She even left me some after the last surgery. My procedure had been delayed for 1 1/2 hours and when she checked in on me I asked if she had had lunch. She pulled out a hand full of fireballs :)

My next appointment is with the OS next Wednesday. They will do some X-Rays and check up. It is back to waiting for everything to heal. I am looking at probably the second week in December for the final surgery (knock on wood).

Thanks for the flower..it has been a long journey. You really helped with being able to chat :)

I'm glad the drain has been removed. You're making progress!
Your doctors sound really nice.

Yippee! That much closer to freedom to do what you want to do.

According to my plastic surgeon this is a beautiful flap...LOL. I am having problems with the other leg. Where they took the graft from. The thigh was left so tight after and I have 1 1/2 inch split at the top. You can actually see the muscle (gross but fascinating). Nothing is easy here:)

It's amazing how well the body is able to heal itself. hopefully the graft site heals quickly too.

Wow girl. I don't know how in the world you have gone through what you have and still function. I'd be a babbling idiot. You are one strong woman. I pray also that your wound heals.
