Don't be like me and wait too long!

You rock girl! :happyfeet:
Love it! While I fret over pre op stuff my hubby is dismantling the entire back wall of the house and the deck from six inches up the siding to ground.. Water damage. He has a buddy and the two of them are putting in ten hour days..
The funny is our dog is not getting regular walks and so the dog is finding his own entertainment.. Which involves digging large holes where he can ( presence of plants does not matter), racing around 2 acres at high speed. Crawling under the existing deck and popping up at a hole in the deck cause he can surprising the carpenter on duty!
They say in Maine construction season is about 90 days.. Its just the luck of the draw that that ninety days coincides with my preop and post op 90 days. He is so tired I really feel blessed to pull some weight.
Tomorrow will be cold and rainy but I really want to resume dog swimming lessons. I will have to do this myself which if I preplan and think is doable now that the water has sort of gotten warm( At least I won't leap out). My Lab mix is terrified of water. Go figure! ( I have no idea what Buddy will think of the 4th of July; which fortunately is not insane)
@julesglass The homestretch for you ! Are you excited? I see its not your first ride of the rodeo bronc called Replacement.. You had yours about the same time I did my knee.

So glad to hear that all your paperwork is where it needs to be and you are all set. My dog is about a quarter lab and he did not want to swim in the lake when my husband took him a couple of years ago. I think it is the waves. We have a pond now and slowly tossing a ball in he started going in deeper all on his own chasing the ball and now he is a good swimmer. The other week I even saw him just go over to the pond and swim across the pond all on his own. It was nice to see. We adopted him 6yrs ago and he was somewhere between 1-2 yrs old and about 90#. He is a mix of mainly shepherd, some lab and a touch of boxer (my husband had his DNA done). He did not know how to run and would stick by us when we went walking in our back fields (we have 70#). He would sort of hop around after birds and butterflies but had no strength to run much. Now he runs great chasing his favorite toy - the orange ball when we toss it for him. It is nice to see him coming into his own. Someone did give him lots of love and attention otherwise though since he is a big loving teddy bear and has been from the beginning. Have fun swimming with your puppy.

And the lovely thing about dogs is they cuddle when you need that and make you laugh!
kinds gets your mind off pain!
Except when they jump on you!

Love reading about your dog cuddles and clowning! A perfect reminder of the great parts of life we can enjoy even when our hips are not behaving!

My Lucy is an English bulldog. She loves what I call short people, kids. She was four months when I got her and granddaughter was one yr. She's timid with anyone not family except childern. Love her so much, she let's me know when it's time for bed (9:30) and I tell to go on to bed, I'll be there soon and she does. This time around I have to board her. We have never been apart other than first surgery. I had daughter living with me then so she was okay. This will be rough on her but for the best. I've just got to contact Aflac for my short term disability to kick in after surgery. Take care.

Wow, things at your house sound kind of crazy, @mainegirl1! But maybe all the madness provides a welcome distraction for you. I chuckled at the description of your dog's antics. When the new deck is rebuilt, I envision you being able to relax out there, post-surgery, enjoying some sunshine and fresh air and not fearing that water damage will plunge you down through a damaged deck board!

Man's best friend. Gotta love em, I know I do! :puppysmooze: :doggie: :dogsniff:
Hope today is a good day, even if it's cold and rainy
@mainegirl1
Oh it was. I went to a Silver Sneakers balance class..Even with bum hip it was fun and actually an aerobic workout.. Really got a leg burn ( lactic acid) Figure whatever I do now will pay back later.. Moral. Pre op is no time to rest.. Its time to work as hard as you can without pain..
I got out of the house and as the class is at a college got to eat lunch in the college cafeteria.. There are classes three times a week and for me well worth it!

Picturing your dogs antics had me giggling! Nice that you found some classes to take. The hospital I'm having surgery at offers free classes as well. May check some of them out while in recovery, they sound much gentler than going to the gym. Once I can go back to the pool I'll start walking there again.
:dogwalk:

We are all different and I was amazed at how much I could do with hip muscles.. defective bone or no! The balance exercises were to sixties rock and roll music and involved some yoga poses like Tree, and Warrior were fine for me. Next week I will go back for strength class as well as balance class. I write because we all are in this pre op funk and there may be things we can still do..that make recovery easier.

You are so right, @mainegirl1! Just doing whatever you can leading up to surgery to make yourself stronger. Admittedly my exercising is probably pretty lame, but keep at it is my view, it will pay off for me like it did last time, leading to an uneventful and, I think, steady recovery. Plus, as you noted, most of us on this forum have days (weeks?! months!) where we're in a total funk and trying to keep busy and as active as possible is good for us physically as well as emotionally. One of the worst/scariest things about that time leading up to surgery is, I think, this feeling of helplessness, aggravated by pain and anxiety. So happy to read that you're still out there doing what you can for as long as you can--it is totally going to pay off for you! Here's to just doing what we can, as long as we can!

@mainegirl1 Right again! There are things we can still do - more than we realize - to make recovery easier and make ourselves feel somewhat better. In the middle of the pain-and-sleep-deprivation fog, it’s hard to concentrate enough to tune in to the parts of the body that work! But even a little bit of progress is such good medicine:)

Hats off to you for going after that incremental improvement!

:heehee:
i didn't sleep last night. I have no idea why.. maybe low level aches that did not register? Now I am going to the hallway to do tree pose with arms extended.. On each leg!
I am learning how to get up to avoid that jag of pain though I have to think each time I get out of a chair or the car!..
Am so looking forward to being reacquainted with my shoelaces and socks. Also a better ROM with a ball!
@Ptarmigan maybe I don't sleep well as every time I turn I wake up to think of avoiding pain?

I hope you sleep like a baby tonight
Sleep really does become elusive it seems the closer we get to our surgery date.
Wishing you a relaxing evening and a happy weekend!
@mainegirl1

It's Monday morning, @mainegirl1, and I'm hoping maybe better sleep last night and you're feeling a wee bit better as you start out the week. I slept pretty well last night, although for some reason hip is aching today. It's my PT exercises plus the gym today and as I didn't take any OTC medication last week, I have that in my back pocket this week if I choose to exercise that option. It was a cloudy, drizzling day yesterday, but the promise of sunshine later on and although it doesn't really make anything "better", it sure is a mood booster. Hope you have a good day.

Last night so so low level achy it is.. Today can barely walk.. But I got to my solo canoe and paddled some seven miles in two hours.. Now I am tired and its time to take Buddy( that imp in the pic) to the vet. He will so not be happy.. Shots! Buddy is a rescue from Georgia of unknown ancestry though the vet says there ARE dog DNA tests.. We finally had warm weather...three whole days.. I was paddling looking for loon and eagle nests.. Sadly they all looked abandoned. Wonder if with the cold weather the eggs had a hard time.

and today. Where did this day cone from?
I slept like a log for 9 hours went to exercise class did all the strength workouts and the hip said nothing!
One twinge on the duckwalk squat
Now I am home taking advantage of my stationary bike with glee
This can't last long
I did start taking 2 Aleve a day which I think I will have to suspend before surgery but thats almost two months out
Maybe I can do more than I thought when we go to Grand Manan Island in two weeks
We will camp and eat fish and lobster for a week!

I'm glad you are getting a reprieve!:yes!:

If you need a "helper" I can do ALL that!:beg:
You get your butt here and we can house you! Camper sleeps 3! You will need woolies and long johns though..:ice: Its a cold place sometimes Not like Hotlanta!
