Three is such a cute age. They love to love you and say the sweetest, funniest, silliest, most insightful things to you. I remember so well when the grandson I raised was three--then he became a yucky teenager--and now he is 23 and will become a father anytime now making me a great-grandma. And it's going to be a boy!

I know you had a wonderful day with him. Take care.

Well, had PT today and my therapist was going to do the same old thing again as he was leading me to the machines. I told him how someone in this forum (sorry, can't remember who) was at 100 for flexion and then her therapist did a deep tissue massage and it went to a 119. So he had me warm up first then took me back to the room. He measured me at 97 and then he massaged my knee and leg. After, he measured again and I was at 101. He told me he can tell I am doing my homework and told me to take a few weeks and just check in with him for measurements to see if it will loosen up with time. He told me that my pain should subside, but he didn't think I would be happy with my flexion and that he thinks I will need a MUA. So I cancelled my Friday PT. I use to go to a lady PT in a different place. I emailed her and told her what is going on and that I am stuck at about 100. I told her that the therapist only did a deep tissue massage today. I told her how I would like to avoid an MUA. She wrote back right away and wants me to come in. If my insurance won't cover (if I use up too many and do I save the ones I have left in case I need a MUA) she deals in cash. Normally over $300 a session, but if you pay cash she does it for $70. So I think I will go in and see what she says.

Wow Debbie what a cut rate she gives for cash paying customers, that $220. saving! When I was going to PT the young lady was doing massage of the whole leg with an upward motion and then she would work on just the scar by just using her finger tips and a little pressure while moving hers fingers side to side until she covered the whole scar. I asked what that form of massage was doing and she said, breaking up the scar tissue she can actually feel it happen under her finger tips. I know one thing it sure was tender after she finished. She also used that sonic probe thingy after massaging. She would put a sticky probe on each side of the scar on the knee and then an ice pak over each knee and set the probe thingy for about 15 minutes. The probe thingy was very tingly and she said it was used to promote healing. My knees always felt good afterwards. Oh yeah she also said that when I massage my knees I should go from side to side gently with a little pressure.
I know this sounds long winded, but I hope it helps.

Stay well my friend!:friends:

Thanks Jacky, I know the lady therapist will do that kind of thing. So I think I will give it a try.

Hi Debbie,

You are barely a month out from surgery. It is way too early to be thinking about an MUA,wayyyyy to early. I had my MUA at 3 months, and some would say that was too early. You need to give this time to settle down. The swelling needs to get under control, both what you can see externally and what you can't see internally. You are doing well at this stage. You will hit a wall from time to time, but you need to be patient and keep the faith. Try the other pt, add massage, but don't start to believe you are not making progress. This recovery moves at a glacial pace.

I know it's hard, and I know it's frustrating. I have been there. It's taken me more than a year to actually get the extension that I have been missing. Deep breathes, slow down, and rest. It will all come together. You have such a great attitude and drive. Stick with the rehab. Don't give into the idea that you are not making progress.

Take care,

Dawn

Jacky, next week can't come fast enough for him. He is on Oxycodone at night and Hydrocodone during the day. He had to stop the aspirin and ibuprofen today so that didn't help. He had his physical today. He realizes that he has to take his medication on time. Something he wasn't use to doing. I even have a legal pad on the counter where he takes his pills and he writes down what and how much he takes and the time. He keeps busy, it is harvest time for him and the people that we work with know about his problem and have helped him a lot. So when do you get your injection? Are you still on pain medicine for your knees? I know I need injections in my shoulder and thumbs soon (they are scheduled) and being able to take the pain pills help until I can get those injections.

Wow between you and hubby your cup runneth over! :console2: You're right about next week not coming soon enough! Now your hubby knows what you have been dealing with as far as pain management! Everything needs to be tracked! It's great that he has people that you work with help him get through his day of harvest. And, you needing injections for your shoulder and thumbs. It seems that arthritis is your body's play ground just like myself. I hope you get your shots soon, so you can be more pain free.
I'm not on any pain med right now except Tylenol. I had to stop my low dose aspirin and ibuprofen for now until I get my steroid shot in my neck on Oct. 1st the day before your hubby goes in for his surgery. I wish you both the best and a speedy recovery! :thumb:

Jacky, I have never had to go off of aspirin and ibuprofen for an injection. Is it a special kind of injection that you will get in your spine, I mean different then just a cortisone injection?

Deb, the OS said they want to lessen the chances of bleeding. My husband has to stay there because I can't drive after, so I'm thinking they sedate me because I have to stay really still or they could damage the nerve.:scary:Plus I have to stay in recovery for about an hour. I've had cortisone injections in my hip and knee, but that was in the docs office and I just walked out. For this injection they lay me face down on a special table, like a massage table, he said and he is guided with xray to get the right spot. He a spine & neck specialist, I damn well hope he good, no let's say great!:thumb:

Jacky and Debbie,
I think it is just like with our OS the docs all have their own way of doing the injections. I do not have to stop any meds before and epidural but I have heard of others that have had to. Yes they usually do mildly sedate you for the procedure usually with Verced and Fentanyl and they want you to stay laying flat for a bit so the med spreads thru the entire area it needs to get to and you wake up a bit before you leave. Hope all goes well for you.

Thanks for the info Rose. :thumb: I've been reading a lot on the web about this procedure. There are so many different approaches.

Went to the dermatologist this morning and now it looks like Dave punched me in the cheek. It was actually my rheumatologist that told me to have those spots on my face checked out. She knew I had met my big deductible and said go get them checked out. I just thought they were old age spots and two of them were, but one, a red kind of rough looking spot about the size of a nickle or maybe a quarter is precancerous. So get out the freezing gun and shoot away. Swelled up at first, now it is just red. He said it might scab over now. Told me to just put Vaseline on it. I have had this on my face for years and it isn't the bad cancer, so not to worry, but funny how you can look at your face every day and ignore things. Guess a person should pay more attention.

I had a spot on my cheek like that that I had removed not long before my knee surgery. Now that the summer sun is gone, I have to follow up. It's always something. Can only tell where it was due to it not tanning, now.

As Janet said Deb, it's always something! Glad you got it checked Nd taken care of, good for you! :thumb:

SCORE!!!!!!!! and no I am not watching football, or NO, Dave isn't horny yet (dang that neck of his) but I did score when we went shopping today. Our 37th anniversary is Tuesday, the day of his surgery so we went shopping and got a new kitchen table and chairs. The real comfy kind you can lean back in, then we kept looking around the showroom and I am getting a new leather recliner as mine really is bad after having to sleep in it for months and then we got a new smaller recliner for the motor home. So not too bad. They wanted to deliver it on Tuesday, but told them we would be gone and they only deliver to our area on Tuesdays so will have to wait till the next week.

Besides my 40 minutes of biking yesterday, I walked over 1 1/2 miles too. Knee is starting to clunk now when I walk, guess a lot of you have that though. My hip did it too, but not for long.

Holy Cow, that sounds like a gosh awful lot of biking and walking for only what? 6 weeks post op? Well, as long as your knee is not telling you that is too much, keep it up! But for Pete's Sake if it is too much, then by all means, back off... Take care of yourself! :dancy:

BJ, she needed to work off some of that pent up "Fifty Shades of Grey" energy! Poor hubby, when his neck is better he'd better run for the hills!:heehee:

All kidding aside Deb, you really did some fantastic shopping there, good for you!:thumb:
