TKR Dawni has a knew knee

@Celle yes I went to my GPs and he has put it on my central notes, yes the physio were very gentle there were 3 others in the group all a lot older than me so I think the class was set for them, very nice people.

@frazz I must admit this is my second TKR the 1st 4 years ago and I went through hell with the 1st they court a nerve, and my recovery was not easy at all, this time I am suprised and pleased how well the recovery is going, I realy was dredging this operation this time round, don't get me wrong there is a lot of pain but I am just finding it better to cope with, and as they say no too knees are the same. I am sure you are doing very well there are small improvments each week, take care x

Beautiful knee scar. It looks to be healing really well! And wonderful that this one is so much easier than the last one.

I went in to work today for 3 hours to do my weekly paperwork only, sitting at my desk getting up every so often to move around, my knee let me know that it had been in to work. I intend to go in once a week to do the paperwork just for a few hours, I work as a catering manager in a school so will only need to do this until the end of July then the school shuts until September when I will return back to work full time, with my other TKR I had about the same time off work so am hoping it will be ok this time. I will have had 16 weeks off work by then

I went to physiotherapy yesterday my bend is now 110 they said I am doing so well by myself that they don't need to see me again, which is nice as I am not driving yet and hate asking someone to give me a lift. The physio people were so nice and kind and did not make me do anything that hurt.

I would not wish this operation on any one but most were very young and only thought in the box. How can anyone know how painful and hard this is unless they have been through it themselves.

I believe I am getting nerve pain a stinging sort of pins and needles sort of pain got a GP appointment on Tuesday I will mention it to her.

So all in all I am doing well, chuffed with myself x

Great news, you've made really good progress! I hope your nerve pain gets sorted soon.

Wow I have just gone up stairs and down foot over foot not one at a time. I could have cried. It's been so long since I have been able to do that I can't remember when. It was slow but I did it. I feel I am definitely turning a corner.

That's wonderful you handled the steps so well. It's a great accomplishment!

Way to go on the stairs--you're making progress.

@Dawni, as you can see, I moved your post into your recovery thread as I didn't think it made sense to have it out there all on it's own with no explanation what it was about.
How can anyone know how painful and hard this is unless they have been through it themselves.
I'd actually say that there is absolutely no reason for it to be "painful and hard". This invariably means you've been doing too many exercises with too many reps. And possibly not managing your pain well to boot.

Are you saying this is with out pain? And by hard I ment it's not an easy thing and you have quoted me in the wrong context I was talking about the very young physio not understand how you feel your quote take mine out of context in fact I don't do very many reps or exercise at all how can you say that. I was not discussing my pain but how chuffed I was doing in physio

I agree you have to experience this to really understand it, in the same way that if you've never been in labour you wouldn't know what it felt like to give birth. You can sympathise, but not empathise. Also, reading lots of people's threads here, some people do have a difficult and challenging time with this surgery. That's why the support is so helpful, other people have faced similar problems and take the time to help others.
Have you still got that nerve pain? I hope it will resolve itself, or the GP can do something.
Dawni, you should feel pleased with yourself, your progress is amazing!

@Tabbycat thank you for your kind words I just felt the quote was taken out of context and not what I was talking about at all, any way GP has given me some pills for the nerve pain and said that the nerves are waking up she thinks that's the pain I am feeling so let's hope so
How are you feeling Tabbycat this operation is a rollercosta but we will get there x

I totally agree that you need to experience it, the physios read the books but don't realise just how hard it is to do what they've asked you to do, I'm lucky to be able to go to hydrotherapy which is much easier. This nerve pain is awful isn't it, I've had 2 new hips and had nothing like this!
