THR Chappyd's recovery story

Today was pretty quiet. Pt stopped by about noon today. Didn't do too much, did a lap around the house. Been getting up to do little things, bathroom. Pain is well managed, but boy am I tired. I've never been able to take a nap. Just closing my eyes. We'll see what happens tonight. My Dr. Has an app I use to exchange messages, give me exercises to do. Heel slides are the only ones I have trouble with, hurts a lot to pull the operated up. Quads, glutes , and ankle pumps are mo problem.
Its just going to be slow going and I'm fine with that.
Texted my boss to let them know that the operation went well. He texts back" heal up fast. Really fast."
I just chuckled. I'll go back when the Dr clears me, and not a moment sooner.

:sleep::alarm:

Guessing your boss has never been through this, huh?!
Glad you will stick to your guns!

I’m lucky to have a lot of support at work. Planning to work from home for a while until I’m up for a physical return.

Haha, no I don't think so. They offered to pay me while I'm out and I also can work from home. The best senario for me would be turn this into an opportunity to work from home for a day or two a week. So far this year has been really stressful. Managing other people really isn't for me, I would like to just do the engineering work and not have people working for me.

I spend most of my day managing everything and everyone.. and end up working late from home most nights to catch up on my work. It’s a nasty cycle I got stuck in. This surgery is my reset button!!!

My husband is a Aeronautics Engineer, one year away from retirement. He is so fed with managing and management now. He actually noticed he was sleeping better the week he was home with me. Sad eh?

Oh boy, day 3. Slept some last night. Not enough though. Boy talk about conflicting information! Get up and move, rest, ice. My Dr's office has an app, called Force. Through that I get messages and I have 7 exercises I am supposed to do 2 times a day. Then I read on there how the swelling could last 6 months! What!!
Tired, drugged, and confused. My swelling isn't that bad really, at least not yet. Just had my first shower, and am out of the clothes I had at the hospital. That reminds me, I think they gave me a t shirt! My wife didn't want take out last night, so maybe tonight.

 Happy Wednesday!
You're doing well! Just read through your entire thread. Both you and JennyLynne are doing great so far.
Take some pressure off yourself and keep the BiG TIP from the Recovery Guidelines in mind -

BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

Hopefully you're able to sneak in a nap today and sleep better tonite.
Wishing you comfort!

Day 4. Not too bad a start. Sleep was fitful last night, going upstairs to bed tonight for sure. Pt came about 8:30, got a couple new exercises, and went up and down the stairs. My dressing has been removed for good. They used glue so no stitches or staples. She said that the wound / slice looked as it should. My leg is swollen a bit, and tender. Boy I get the whole log leg phrase now! She was watching me walk around and wants me to not be afraid to put weight on it. Sitting here icing after her visit and I noticed my boss called. Checking up on me I suppose, making sure I don't fall to far out of the loop

Log leg is a pain and makes it hard to get in and out of bed, etc. but seems to pass after 4 or 5 days in my experience. I only feel it a bit now if I am really tired. I had glue for my 1st hip surgery and the scar is hardly visible where this one looks a bit more 3D right now. Do try to put a bit of weight on your op leg - I seem to favour mine also and not sure why because when I do put weight on it, it doesn't hurt at all. I would think if we get out of the habit of favouring it we may graduate a cane sooner?
