ByGosh I hope that you soon get the answers and relief you so much need. I had one injection in my left hip several months before I had surgery. For me it didn't work probably because I needed surgery. I saw that you are going to have a scan done, when is that scheduled? My husband has been getting muscle cramps in his legs now since the weather is hot and he sweats when he's working, he works outdoors in all the heat that we had a few weeks ago so I think cramps have something to do with loss of sodium in your body so I told him to drink some energy drinks during the day to replenish that, he hasn't been complaining anymore.

Songlady I have read everything I could find about leg cramps and tried all the remedies including more water, potassium, calcium, heating pad, cold packs, walking, stretching before bed, going to bed earlier, hot bath, epsom salts, vitamins and putting a bar of soap under the sheets which strangely works for some people. I was highly motivated because inner thigh cramps are unlike any other type. They are absolutely excruciating. I get them everywhere else as well...shin, ankle, toes, calf. The things that work best for me are to take magnesium morning and night, avoid a sugar binge in the evening and the most effective of all is to drink tonic water with quinine in it when i feel it coming on. You likely know that quinine is prescribed for malaria. Formerly it was given for leg cramps as well, in 200 - 300mg pills I believe. Due to the many side effects they are no longer prescribed for cramps. However, a glass of tonic water has only 20mg of quinine and it does work for me and for others as well. There was a period of time a couple months ago when it was particularly bad and I wouldn't go anywhere without a bottle of tonic water in my purse. My mom has bone cancer, and she also started getting leg cramps. Thankfully it worked for her as well. We ran it by her oncologist last month and she said she had other patients who took it and it was fine with her. I keep a can beside my bed with a small can of coconut water (potassium) Make sure the ingredient list says it has quinine in it as not all do. Schweppes and Canada Dry both do. The other thing my mom and i have noticed and we keep thinking it must be a coincidence but it has happened too many times now ....the tonic water seems to help you sleep very soundly with no tossing and turning at all.

ByGosh I
m hoping for yet more improvement, I'll bet I sound like a broken record...
My son had all 4 wisdom teeth out at age 19-- he slept the whole 100 miles home and then I think went to bed, but was chirpier by the day after that. I hope your daughter will have a fast recovery! How nervous is she?

Poppet. Maybe you know this.... Why it it that we suffer from insomnia after surgery?

I suspect the physical trauma of the surgery, the subconscious anxiety that we all have about various fears post surgery, not being able to get comfortable, having to sleep on our backs which is often not how we mostly sleep and the meds mess with our regular sleep patterns. sandpiper

:heehee: Songlady & ByGosh, I suppose the thrombophlebitis is a bit like an earthquake in my life, I'm over the metaphorical as well as the physical ones. I must write paragraphs....

How, frustrating for you ByGosh, that you have no answers.

Poppet. Tx! I was wondering. It seems we all have that issue with not being able to sleep. Also, my surgery was July 1st. I had some internal sutures and on the outside just glue. The incision looks pretty good. I have not been using and lotion after showering. How soon can I put something on the incision sight to help heal it so the scar isn't too bad and what do you recommend? I'd prefer something all natural. Tx!

sandpiper, I would wait before you apply anything to your incision. don't think I applied anything on mine for at least two months, just to be sure. But we are all different, I can't see your incision, there is still so much healing going on subcutaneously :)

Several of us have daughters that are non-meat eaters - Littlejem nmscienceteacher you, Nylsor and my daughter. I think we're lucky that they eat dairy, as otherwise it would be more difficult to feed them - especially in a house with others who crave meat.

I gave up meat and dairy in February for health reasons. My sister, BIL, daughter all jumped on the Plant based whole foods, low fat band wagon after careful research and lots of reading. Forks over knives video did it for me. No one knows how to feed me.... I usually bring a dish and if they ask me what I can eat, I say salad. :ok:

My daughter is having her wisdom teeth out next week. I'm having my husband take the first couple of days off, as I'm not sure how she'll be, and it may not be so easy for me to run up and down the stairs if she's laid up in bed. I feel bad about it, as I've always been the one to manage things, especially something like that. But he'll do work at home, and probably around the house, too, so it will have to be OK.

ByGosh, I think you may need to plan a vacation. Something for everyone in your family. You certainly have had enough of the **** shoveled your way. I'm so grateful that you have a DH to pick up the slack when you need it. I was married for 26 years, and although it ended, I learned a few things. One important lesson is that marriage is never 50/50. Like a see saw on a play ground, there's always someone doing more of the work. Right now it's your turn to receive. I know for me, that's a MUCH harder position. I'm a giver by nature and it's the role I'm most comfortable in. I am learning to be a good receiver because it makes others happy to help. Just a different point of view said in love...

ByGosh,
I'm glad that you're back to the old pain and discomfort level.... but I'm waiting, not so patiently, for it to get better than that. Today is a brand new day and I'm always the optimist, I'm hoping for much improvement for you, my friend!

Nancy

Poppet thanks for the advice and I will wait before applying any scar reducing lotions. I don't have sutures or staples, just glue but i understand what you said about the subcutaneous healing. Tx again!!!

Well hello sweetie Kylesh It's so nice of you to drop by for a visit. How are you doing? :) Did you have your MRI yet?
I've been meaning to tell you that I love your new avatar picture. You're very young-looing.

Poppet I can tell you're at least a little better because you're back to helping people here again. How nice! :friends:We missed you!

ByGosh, actually, I am still in bed, religiously taking my antibiotics, drinking heaps of Bonningtons Irish Moss cough syrup, playing with my puffer and my baby spacer (doesn't work, threw the last one in the bin!).

The sun is finally creeping in the bedroom and will cover me soon, and that will out me to sleep... Spent all night up, watching shopper channels, eating crackers and peanut butter... Yes time for a nap.. But I do miss my peeps xx

Gee nmay51 you are absolutely right. How reasonable and sensible and down to earth that is! I'm glad that you reminded me. I especially like the see-saw analogy - it speaks to the inner child in me. :)

Seriously, I appreciate it because I feel guilty just about all of the time because I'm not able to physically do what I once did - at least not now. And the burden falls on my husband for many of the household tasks that I managed - and not just the grocery shopping and the meal preparation. Although I can still oversee things, it's not the same as being the 'hands on' person. He has to do the actual leg work - like getting the oil changed in my car. I know it's simple, but it just adds another thing to his list, and I feel badly for him and worry he's over-stressed. After all, I was always the one who did everything that had to do with the management of our lives - our kids, our healthcare, our home and home repairs, our cars and car repairs, our dogs and their care, planning vacations, packing everyone up for vacations, driving on vacation - everything except for the yard work, and of course, he works the main bread winning job - I worked part-time mostly. So now I'm out of commission, and it's very hard for me to sit back and let him do it all.

Zen - that's what someone said to me - Zen... I understand of course, but it's not easy changing one's very nature...

Oh dear Poppet I'm so sorry..Poor girl, up all night, antibiotics, puffers, baby spacers, cough syrups, shopping channels - goodness, you're still so sick! But here you are, back with us a little because you're such an angel, and it's in your very nature to take care of others.
Zen Poppet Zen - that's what they told me.. Have a lovely, restful nap now. Sweet dreams and heal up all nice and strong.:friends:

zauberflöte My daughter is quite nervous over her wisdom teeth, and so is her mother, but I'm not showing it (am I? :yikes: ) I hope not, because then she'll just get more nervous!

It's mostly because I'm not 100%, and feel less 'able' and more vulnerable myself. So that feeling gets projected onto the rest of my family because I'm not in control as much as I usually am. Make sense?

Anyhoo (as Meg Songlady would say, but I won't tag her because she's having a romantic anniversary vacation and I don't want to interrupt  ) We'll manage fine, my daughter will be fine, my husband will be fine, and it'll all just be fine, right??

ByGosh, I so understand that it is difficult to be the one who has to sit back and be an observer within the family unit rather than the centre of it. Although there is only the two of us, I was the one who did everything, but the balance of the scales started to subtly shift Pre and post my surgery. Suddenly I felt as though I was a goldfish trying to jump out of the bowl all the time to get into the action, or even be the action.

But you know what, it has brought us closer (if that was even possible, as DH has always been my soul mate).. We are now a team.. It is a good thing, I believe the universe was saying to me, slow down! Breathe (even with a spacer!), blow bubbles for a while!
