PKR Bj Mac's Recovery

Gosh, you've got a lot of moms out here, BJ. But we're all just looking out for you. How are you feeling overall, hon? Glad your tooth is feeling better---how about your knee? When are the kids leaving for school? So many questions---need answers. Let us hear from you.

I hope you are feeling much better tooth and knee-wise....I have been following your recovery and keeping up with you...you had your PKR a couple of weeks before I had mine. Hope all is well and you can get back on the slopes this winter!

BJ-smart idea to go to the dentist. If a tooth hurts there is always the possibility of infection, and not going won't get rid of it. Did you get antibiotics or didn't you need them? I often think the worst. And then think that by avoiding, my worst fears won't come true...this summer I had a sore throat that wouldn't go away and thought if I went to my doc he'd discover I had throat cancer.:umm: Eventually, I did go, made an appt. with an ENT doc and before I could go, the soreness disappeared for good. :happydance: Happy dance indeed. You know, you and Kelly make me think I could actually begin to ski, even though I've never skied before. Probably not. But I am going to hike soon. Oh, check out this site. broken link removed: https://the3six5.posterous.com/ My entry is on August 18. A great time celebrating our 39th wedding anniversery. Thinking of marriage, of course, but also my knee and what I can now do...what I hope to do soon. Others of you might want to sign up for a day. It was fun.

Overall I am feeling pretty good. My knee hurts every day and swells, it is just a matter of how much. It seems to be improving, meaning that I am able to do more. On Tuesday I went to learn my new workout with the personal trainer, and believe that this will help as my muscles become stronger. My trainer is a big fan of stopping when it starts to hurt, Yay!

My second son leaves for Portland, Oregon on a plane on Wednesday. We have shipped some of his things ahead of him. My third son headed to school to begin his move in process yesterday and will be back tomorrow. He will then leave later this week or on the weekend. Then it will just be my daughter, myself and the two dogs at home.

Oh guess what I did today... I played frisbee with my son for the first time since I have had my pkr. I only 'chased' the ones that I could walk slowly to, and caught the ones that came straight to me. As soon as my knee complained I told him that I needed to stop, that my knee had said that that was enough. :dancy:

[Bonesmart.org] Bj Mac's Recovery Sounds like you had fun---and were smart to stop when knee said "enough." Things will be slowing down a bit with the boys leaving for college. Glad your knee is improving though I'm sure you'd like to see it speed the process up a bit. Thanks for the update.

Yes, I had fun. Both knees are complaining, I also had to clean the pool filter cause it was so clogged it was breaking the hoses with the pressure... ARGH!!! I think that I have the pool fixed for now, but the heater is not working.

The boys will be off to school soon, but they are also my help for transporting my daughter. She needs to learn how to parallel park and get her drivers license and that will help when she can take herself to the barn.

I am looking to take a few classes this fall and keep sorting through and getting rid of many of the things that have collected as I have lived in the same house for 19 years... lots of work to be done

Heater! If you lived in TX you would have a built in heater almost year round! It's called " the Sun"! :happydance:

Well, in Pa. when you get close to fall the pool temp is dropping and the heater working is essential... And mine hasn't worked since before the fourth of July and the repair company has ignored me. I will have to chase them, and see if they will even come out and work on it.

Today I was doing so well with my squats that I did too many, now I am swollen and hurting big time. I also had to go up and down the stairs way too many times trying to get some paper work done and documents scanned/copied. First my scanner wouldn't work and then my copier quit... Frustrating start to my day.

I have also been doing a lot, what with getting ready to send my one son to Portland tomorrow. I am dreaming of resting for a day or two next week. I will desperately need it.

Hi BJ

I have just been catching up with you and your recovery seems to be going well. Your little trip up has obviously caused no problems to your knee (sigh of relief!). I still read a little bit of impatience into your recovery rate :hissy: . During my recovery I would read the stories from Bonesmarties that had their surgery a few months before me and they would state that from 6 months on the improvement was immense and they were on a different level of recovery. I can now confirm that was exactly what I found with my recovery. I'd had a fairly straightforward recovery but still I felt that my knee was not feeling part of me 100%. Now I am nearly 8 months and I feel that it has all fallen into place and my knee feels part of my body. It really does take time to get back to the fitness level that we once had and I know you will do it, as you are a very determined and positive lady.

Take care and be well xxx

It is late Friday night and I have been in pain since Tuesday. I am very discouraged. Hurting a lot and sleeping very little even though I have Ambien to help. 4-6 hours of sleep a night is as good as it gets around here and I am really struggling, exhausted, and hurting... I want someone to wave their magic wand and make it all better. :gaah:

BJ,
You seem to be sturggling for quite some time now, maybe you want to give your OS a call and see what they have to say. I feel so bad for you having to put up with this for so long. It would hurt to ask them what they think.

BJ,

I am so sorry that you are hurting!

Maybe now that your two sons have gone back to college, you can take some time off, and give your knee rest! You have worked a lot this past week getting them ready, now it is BJ's time! :friends:

The one son is dragging it out. He has a headcold and keeps delaying his return to school. His school is only an hour and 20 minutes away and he doesn't need to be there for class until Monday.

I have a full schedule next week, but will work hard to try to take some BJ time... as in rest and relaxation!!!

Rose, I have a chiropractor visit on Monday morning. I am hoping that I will feel better after that. Maybe I should call the OS too...

Well, he is a bigboy and can fend for himself. As for you young lady, don't make me fly up to PA before the ski trip! The scene might get a little ugly! :rotfl:

BJ,
This just seems to be going on for so long now. You deserve some relief, maybe a quick look at the knee will give a better idea of what might be going on in there. I sure would be beatng on his door to find out why all the pain and swelling. Don't mean to be preachy but I care about you and better healing for you.

Sonja,Yes, he is a big boy and can fend for himself. OK, OK, OK!!! I will try to learn how to take it easy.

Rose, You are right this has been going on a long time, but I keep thinking that it is because I have not rested enough, but then it does seem crazy that I am hurting soooo much.

BJ,

I'm sorry you have pain and sleepless nights. I understand the frustration. If you haven't yet go back to what works for you... Ice, cool water, moist heat for muscles, Tylenol Advil or Alieve as much and as often as it is safe to take. If you have left over narcotic pain meds there is no shame in taking one especially if your pain prevents sleeping.

Hang in there....

ChrisO

PS I'm stubbornly not following this advice to a letter myself, I am so mad at my body for failing to heal on my terms. I take out my anger on myself with rediculous behavior like not taking meds, not resting and working when I should rest. So if you don't do any of the things everyone will advise you to do to take care of yourself I understand... But it is dumb.
