THR Bickypeg's new hip

Thanks @Layla new mattress was at first very disappointing but I then had the bright idea of getting a mattress topper too and it's feeling good! Fewer pillows but if I wake I can now wriggle about and rearrange things. Only woke once last night and listened to Bill Brydon for half an hour. Two late nights in a row with family around all day helped a lot. Also busy sweeping leaves off the drive one handed then visiting potential homes for the youngest today - lots of narrow Victorian staircases and in & out of the car. I'm sure I'll pay for it later but such fun!
I'm still far worse physically and mentally in the mornings and better as the day goes on & this is definitely arthritis related as I was like this pre op. New hip really good though the ankle often swells a bit and sometimes feels stiff.
Still preoccupied with worries over various odd symptoms when on my own but I suspect we're all a bit like this. If I could be busy and in company all the time I'd do much better.
Found some Skechers slightly reduced. A bit big but then both feet do swell slightly so I find them very comfy thank you! So thrilled

! And ebay often have bargains I found. Took them straight out for an autumnal walk the other day... Nothing like a nice old graveyard to keep things in perspective.

Happy Monday!
Well I'm happy to read you're adjusting to the mattress since you've added the topper.

I hope you're not paying for all of the in and outs of the car and stair climbing yesterday.
I'm sorry you have a rough start physically and mentally each morning due to arthritis. Pain is definitly
draining as most of us understand.

Try not to worry about odd symptoms unless they're prolonged or escalating in intensity. At only 3 months post op, you still have a lot of healing to do. Many months worth.

Try to stay busy if it helps you mentally. Take some walks in those new Sketchers and look at that beautiful landscape you posted. Thanks for sharing the pics. It's always interesting to see what other BoneSmart friends are viewing in their corner of the world on a daily basis. Very pretty photos.
I hope you have a great week!
@bickypeg

Almost daren't say but a happy and satisfactory week so far. Family all round on Sunday and wanting feeding, then we called briefly to watch some of youngest's Musical Theatre workshop.
Monday looking round 4 Victorian houses with very tricky staircases as he's hoping to buy somewhere soon. Followed by a trip to the local cinema all alone that evening to see a live screening of the Royal Ballet's Mayerling. Felt very apprehensive ! But three hours of wonderful but harrowing dancing.
Off the next day to help amuse the granddaughter as her Dad worked on his thesis. And she's walking now! :mcoffee:
Hacking furiously at the Virginia Creeper and sweeping leaves this morning.
So far so good and I've slept better than usual. Insomnia not caused at the moment by pain. (having a little pillow under bad knee definitely helps)
Is this a turning point? Is new hip actually helping old hip at last as was promised? Is it just that I like being busy and in company? Or is it the calm before the storm? Very thankful for the respite whatever! And November next week! Not long until the New Year!

Love the photos of your graveyard stroll @bickypeg! Very evocative! And it sounds as if keeping busy with fun captivating outings is working well for you. I'd say keep it up, although up and down stairs in old houses might come back to haunt you. I love my sketchers too. One pair I've worn out totally and another, I call my "airport shoes", are so good for walking long distances that I got 2 pair, in 2 colors. I keep looking at the now dusty heels in the closet and wondering if they'll ever be on these feet again. Don't really care at the moment as comfort takes precedence and I've got 2 good walking shoe options working well right now. Keep enjoying family and fun time!! Glad the mattress topper worked as well. And ....I swear by the strategic pillow placement initiative! (SPPI) Got me through 2 THRs with very good sleeping patterns.

Nice to hear Bickypeg… My airport shoes are Propets and they are brilliant. I am now shoehorning myself into black loafers with small heels suitable for work - but with bare feet - very decadent. Hope you have a great week..

Hope today is a good day. I barefooted it through alot of my recovery as it was in the middle of the summer.
In a few days you will have three months behind you! I think you have done exceptionally well and things will keep improving...did for me. Especially I'd say, about month four.
Onward:egypdance:

Oh I prefer bare feet but it's getting a bit parky round here now! Would be so good to get the other hip done though - there's so much I'd like to do.

:hi:
While the distraction of being occupied can minimize pain, let's hope you've turned a corner.
It does seem that you really appreciate and enjoy your family which is lovely.
Wishing you lots of time with those you hold dear. Like that precious little baby on your avatar with you.
Love baby feet!
Enjoy the rest of the week :)
@bickypeg

Happy Three Month Anniversary!
Can you believe it's three months already?
I hope you have a nice day and a great weekend :SUNsmile:
@bickypeg

Saw the chiropodist today. Not only so I could get my toenails cut properly! but I had a few little niggles especially my toes tending to go blueish when I sat for any length of time. She ruled out a few worrying things (I'd Googled!) as she could find pulses easily and pointed out I'd seen a cardiovascular specialist who was happy about the circulation. But she noticed my feet felt cold, asked if our house was cold and said she thought I was starting with chilblains with possibly a touch of athlete's foot! So no more walking round on our tiled or wooden floors with draughts blowing up from the cellar in bare feet! And must wear socks. My feet felt so good when she'd finished. I must look after them especially now I can reach one of them...but I hate socks.

Hi @bickeypeg
I'm with you. I have a problem with socks also. They feel so hot and confining to me, even in the dead of Winter.
I'm glad your mind was put as ease through conversation with the chiropodist (whatever that is) today. I need to look that one up!
Hope you have a nice weekend!

@bickypeg, can you find some fuzzy slipper slip-ons to keep your feet warmer? I think one of the reasons I didn't bellyache about those pesky compression hose (for awhile anyway, until the ridiculous elastic around the thigh gave out and bunched around my knees) was because they kept my feet and legs so warm. Okay, I guess you can't appear outside in fuzzy slippers without being mistaken for a bag lady, but indoors I find mine are very comfortable.

Those look like some warm socks.:heehee:

:hi: Saw your lovely picture on another thread and I agree, you look very well...and pretty!
Just into month three...can seem like forever I know...but healing still happening!
Keep the faith...hoping all steadily improves!:angel:
