THR BeBe finally!!!

Aah BeBe....so sorry your getaway was a mixed bag...these hip problems certainly are hard to shake off, and yours seem to be particularly reluctant to move on! Hope you can cope with it now you're home, and hopefully knock it on the head for good. It's not always easy to work out your physical limitations at any given time, and we certainly suffer for it :whistle: rest up and take care

I'm sorry BeBe. Sometimes we just have to learn the hard way.
I tried to go on a short trip at 4 weeks out, as I was desperate for some change of scenery and routine...to see my mother who lived in a beautiful fun town with lots to see and do.
After these 2 hour drive...really 1 1/2 hours but stopping half way, I was tired and sore and miserable.
Hope you get rested up and back on track.:console2:

Oh, no! I'm so sorry, BeBe
What a sorry ending to your getaway.
I sure hope a few days of serious rest, icing, naps helps it all ease.
:prayer: Prayers for your comfort and healing.
Big hugs
@BeBe

Hi everyone @Layla @Mojo333 @anny @Kikki @ladylorn
Anyone else who happens by? I have a question.
When did you finally forget about your new hips?
Oh that's vague
When did you lose that sitting on hockey pucks in your back pockets feeling?

My first hip is 4 1/2 months
Still with the hockey pucks, which makes it sore, not OA sore but muscle sore.
Second hip is 7 weeks feels same as first hip.
Has been this way since beginning - same.

I feel like the implants are too big?

I'm trying to remember, honestly BeBe.
I do remember after a while that feeling finally subsided..but I remember it was more prevalent even at 6 months when sitting for long periods. Especially car riding..but I have horridly low uncomfortable bucket seats so I could ride in my sisters car or dads truck easier for long periods.
May be too early now with your new hip...but I did find the piriformis stretches helpful for this.
All that sitting made it much more noticeable..
Keep the faith...after a year...I rarely think about my hip replacement unless I seriously overdo a new activity.
Hope today is a good day.

It is hard to pinpoint because it happens gradually.
I will echo Mojo that by one year, you do forget somewhat.
I can't say a day goes by that my THR doesn't cross my mind but I realize it isn't in the forefront
of my mind when I go through a particular motion and afterwards think "I wonder if I should be moving like that." To me, that's not thinking about it 24/7. I recall that sitting on a golf ball feeling going on for MONTHS.
Not all the time, but on occasion. Car rides were uncomfortable for me also. Wiggly jiggly and I wanted out!
I hope you have a nice week, @BeBe it will get better, s-l-o-w-l-y.

Oh, @BeBe, so sorry to hear that you had a rough time of things during your getaway! I can relate to the overdoing/stubborn thing - our bodies have a way of reminding us that we need to slow down, don't they :sigh:?? I do hope that you've taken some time to recover/recoup and that you're feeling better; thinking good thoughts for your ease of pain! :hugzz:

Having said that, I just read your second post/query re, the golf ball sensation (such a DELIGHT!!!). I went through it with my first one and it scared the mess out of me:holysheep:!!! It seems to have eased somewhat (I'm a hair over five months in on that one); but I realized that the "pain in the butt" that I experience (literally), especially riding on my commuter bus, is just another manifestation of it - only it's on both sides now!!! I hadn't made the connection until you asked (and made me actually sit and think) about it - I thought it was some weird extension of my sitz bones or something.

All that to say, I wish I could tell you when it gets better, but I'm still early enough in the game that I'd be no help on this one - we're almost on the same timeline. My PT tells me that I should feel things shift at the six-month mark FOR THE SECOND HIP (b/c I had them done so close together); that would put me (us?) at some time in December, maybe? What a Christmas gift that would be, if so!!!

I'm going to listen to @Layla and @mojo on this one and hope that there will come a time when I just forget about it.:fingersx:

mmmm...hockey pucks? just need to google that........oh YES! I've got one of those strapped to my incision area....not much of a problem walking, but when I lie on that side it takes a few minutes and a bit of judicious wriggling for 'the puck' to become less uncomfortable. Hand in hand with the numbness around scar to top of thigh, which is very gradually decreasing, I think what started out as a tennis ball has also flattened out to a puck....trying to be patient, but sometimes you do wonder if you're going to be stuck with it forever :what:

@Layla @Mojo333 @ladylorn @anny

Thanks for reassuring me that
1. This is normal?
2. It gradually goes away?
3. I'm not crazy?
Not sure about #4.
Still think I have the king size version...
Is that possible?!?

It's been getting quite painful since my busy week last week, before the several hours car ride,
then the two day tourist walking tours.
Oddly seems to be getting worse, discomfort wise, verses becoming less noticible with activity.
Well what does that tell you?

Then today I spent the day at the desk/computer. I guess I mistakenly thought that might be more low key
and less aggravating. Even though I have a gel pad on the chair. Not so much.

Off to:bath: then:ice: then :sleeep:

Not sure if this will help for the chair, but I went to the foam store before my op and got a one inch think piece of medium density foam for my computer chair. I had it cut to half the length of the seat (measured from the back of where my but goes to where my legs go). My intent was to cover the back half of the chair seat so that my hamstrings wouldn’t feel too much pressure (the front half of the chair has a raise cushion that goes right under the front of the hamstrings. My planned failed miserably in what I was trying to achieve, but, the foam is way easier to sit on for longer periods with all the swelling... at least so far (and 30 minutes appears to be the max I can sit without getting up and moving around).

Anyway, you may but want to try the same thing. The half foam will also put you legs at a slower girly different angle, which should also take some pressure off. Lastly, and this is something I did long before my surgery to relieve hip pain, try putting and angled stool in front of the chair to rest you feet on. Like the foam, this will change the angle of you legs and but, relieving some pressure. Not sure these ideas will help you at all, but I figured I would mention them. Hope you find something that works for you.

Cheers

Snap! Mine is fine walking around, but sitting (particularly in the car) it starts to ache.....gently at first then at about the hour mark it ramps up and becomes a lip-biter.....stand up and take a few steps and all is fine :shrug: Am coming to the conclusion that it's the seat and position it puts you in, as wonkyhipoy is suggesting. Op side of bum and down the back of the thigh....probably a muscle thing, most aches and pains seem to be laid at their door, but can't quite work it out in my head!

@BeBe, are you icing a lot? I said on my post that I've turned into the ice queen (especially now that I've returned to commuting), and I'm not kidding - I will ice at the drop of a hat (anybody got a hat? :heehee:).

I'm guessing that, if you can't find mention of what you're experiencing on the forums, folks may suggest you ask Josephine for her input. But it seems to me that you may have overdone it and your body is asking you to lay low and dial it back a notch for a while; hopefully someone who's further along on the healing path will be able to give their input.

As for sitting, I empathize; I posted on my thread about sitting at a desk all day - I alternate between two chairs throughout the day, and have a cushion (that I'd bought for my trips home from the hospital, but never needed), and I still find myself squirming more and more as it gets closer to EOB.:oyvey:

Here's hoping that your discomfort eases, lady; keep :bath: and :ice: and :sleeep:!

@BeBe ah bless you. I still have a "brick" in my bottom from my thr after 7 months! I don't notice it too much until I lie down and try to drop my knee down, which is still impossible! I have a very swollen patch at the bottom half of my scar which I think is the problem. I am hopeful with the new one things will improve on the old one. It's all a learning curve and everyone seems so different?? My second one though has been so much better and let that continue!!

@BeBe

I am finally starting to feel normal and it’s been 5 and 3 months.
Not sure if I ever had the hockey puck feeling? Guess I had for a short time little
golf ball feeling. But that was right after surgery for about 4 -5 weeks.

However, I still have in the 5 month hip a large hard as a rock marble sized round knot. Adhesion? I don’t know, but it still bugs me. Feels gross when I touch it.
And just lately, both hips are a little itchy? Have no idea what that’s about either. Lol.

It’s not all back to normal yet, but I’ll sure take this over not being able to walk. Gosh, I think back to how I’d skip going in a store I really needed some things. Because it just hurt too much. Or look at the store, how far I’d have to walk and just give up because of pain. I kinda am surprised everyday that there’s no pain. So that reminds of the new hips.

I know what you mean @Kikki . Towards the op date on first hip, I started buying milk and eggs at the convenience store because they were all the way in the back of the grocery store and I didn't want to or couldn't walk that far!

Same! @Kikki
Circle the parking lot looking for the closest spot and resorted to Walgreens and CVS for toiletries
Less walking and easy parking. Man, we were pathetic souls. @SaraK

I hope you're taking it easy and feeling a bit better today, dear BeBe.
Sending a hug and wishing you comfort.
@BeBe

@wonkyhipoy
Yes to the chair pad and the little footstool. Both have helped me be as comfy as possible at the desk chair. It does help initially but then I have to get up and "move it move it" . At least my numb leg has subsided about 70%
Since the second surgery.
I just noticed your surgery date! You're a fresh one!! Hope all is going well for you. I'll have to check out your thread!

@anny
When are we going to be able to tolerate any something for maybe an hour or so? Sitting, walking, standing.
Just can't tolerate any one thing for too long. ( not even a tv show...)
Agree it's muscle? Just feels somewhat bulging around the socket area. Or else I'm becoming hyper cognizant of it. No doubt that.

@ladylorn
Yes I too am an ice queen! Hahaha! All night, after dog/horse chores, all the time if I'm sitting, just don't sit for very long during daytime lately. Really missed my all night gel packs on our little last weekend trip.
Minimal icing and all the walking and car riding I think was the culprit. You're right I need to lay low again.
Not icing right now though, it's :bath: time!

@Bevlah
Oh my you're two days out From #2!?!
My second has been easier --KOW. However the first hip/leg has the ITB bursitis thing back again.
That came back from hands and knees in the garden pulling weeds. It was ok while I was doing it
But then later...Yes I'm a bit ODI
My range of motion improved a lot after the second hip throughout the whole pelvic area
seems like muscles that had been locked up just relaxed. Although I was prescribed muscle relaxers too
Which really helped the spasms but Then I started doing and going again. Now have some pain back.
Guess still too soon.
Hope you're holding up and have pain controlled, such early days. I'll go check your thread.

@Kikki
I remember you posted about the hard marble? Is it in the insision? I have smaller hard nodules
in my newest insision and a bit more numb feeling. I don't like how it feels either. Not on right tho.
And yes I well remember the "no way am I walking to the back of the store" days.
And yes!! I've developed a itchy rash over both incisions just since last week. Might be from new clothes?
But both were itching and then the rash started.
These hips take time. Just have to keep that on repeat.
My OS said he was worried if I had a easier hip on the second that I might flare up the first and to take it slow.
I'm back to needing the cane for the right first hip.
Oiy!!

@SaraK
I started shopping at our Wegmans out of the way fancier foo foo store,
because they have a case of the must have dairy items up at the front of the store.
Smart store.
No hockey pucks for you Sara?
Guess I still have some healing to do.
:bath: :ice::sleeep:

@Layla
I'm better since I stopped by BS and had a real turnout in BeBe land! :loveshwr:

My daughter starts her new job in Philly next Monday.
I went shopping with her today for work clothes. To the Outlets. :swoon:
Iced in the car on the way there and back. Used my cane. Just can't give it up yet.
It was fun spending the day together.
I'll rest more when she's fully moved out again:wink:

:hi: Bless your heart for shopping at the outlets!
Brave lady!
I can't hardly bear it on good hips...guess you can tell I'm not a shopper.
Did you get you some new shoes while you were there?
Sure hope you cool out today!:ice:

Hope you're feeling alright today after shopping the outlets with your daughter yesterday.
I'll bet it was fun, could see where it may be an Energy Drain though.
No shame in the cane as long as you're needing it. I'm sure you'll lose it soon enough.
Hopefully you can catch up on some well deserved rest soon. Two major surgeries
within the last 5 months is a lot. You need some quiet, relaxing, BeBe time.
Wishing you a peaceful day.
