Congrats on your new knee and welcome to the other side!
I always pack hard candies for the funny taste I get after surgery-it helps with dry mouth also. Generally, my OS and I discuss pain management and then he puts it in the orders. Somehow he forgot to put in the pain med plan this last time and it was a mess, so I let him know at my post op app't that he screwed up big time. They gave me the right medicine the wrong way (pills instead of IV) and made me ill, so they had to go to IV, which is what the plan was supposed to be. I also took two different anti-nausea meds, plus had the patch behind my ear. It will usually work for me as long as I have enough food in me, but if I haven't eaten yet after surgery, pills are a no-no until I've had a couple of meals. Just crackers, or another small snack doesn't work for me so I need to actually have food in my stomach. I hope they get everything taken care of so you can get on with recovery.

Heparin is a blood thinner either given via IV or injection. Oxy/Tylenol is really just Percocet. If you are still having nausea ask them to switch you to Zofran which can be given through the IV or orally. It might help you more than the patch. There are several different meds for nausea so they should be able to find the one that works for you.

I'm glad you stood your ground with the PT and are not overdoing the exercise, it's your knee and they are there for your benefit. I hope you get relief from the nausea soon, it was the worst thing for me.
Feel better soon.

Wow, 3X PT on day 2?? That seems a bit overkill. Hope you have a good sleep tonight - pretty sure it will be better than surgery day.

I had to take Zofran at home for nausea, I suffered with it for 1 week...I hope you feel better soon!

I think the most uncomfortable hours for me post-op was in the hospital Barnmom. Soon you'll be back in your surroundings and begin feeling better. We'll be here to help you get through your recovery and before you know it you'll be finding your way back to normalcy! Hope you are able to get some rest tonight~

Yea suze. And I am uncomfortable indeed. I know the mantra. But they don't let you elevate here. I am feeling less nauseous so far this morning. Maybe I can eat something too. That would help with the nausea also I think.

I don't think im going home today. Will see what the verdict is the afternoon.

Also my doctor had some family events to do yesterday. He's here today so maybe I can see him. His colleague did pop in to say hi an remove the ace bandage and the cotton packing. Said it looked good. Not a lot of swelling thus far.

Glad you are feeling better, hopefully you can go home soon.

Just walked about 150 feet. And walked up and down some stairs in the p t room. They want me to walk 200 feet Looks like I will be going home tomorrow. No qualms about another night stay.

Your attitude is so good! I hope so much your pain meds are coming on time enabling you to stay ahead of the pain. Thinking back, they didn't have my knee elevated in the hospital either. But I had everything ready at home I would need to follow the mantras. I promise you that keeping pain meds in your system strictly on schedule, & keeping your knee elevated & iced pretty much 24/7 the first weeks into your recovery will make life SO much better for you. Before this surgery I hated taking pain meds, ice packs & being confined to a recliner with my leg propped up. Those three things became my absolute best friends post-op! And the wonderful friends & their encouragement here at bonesmart.

Prior to your surgery your knee health was declining every day. Now, even though you are uncomfortable, (we understand), but every hour whether it feels like it or not, your knee health is getting better & better!

We're here for you!

Having itching on arms, chest back. I think it's a reaction to oxy. Has anyone else experienced this? If so how did you treat ?

I took oxy also and experienced average itching. It was constant but not so bad that I asked for another pain med. After a few days it went away.

I'm glad you get another night of hospital care, as it's much easier to get your problems addressed there. I keep being amazed at how quickly things can turn around. For example, I thought I'd never get over the nausea, and then suddenly, it was gone. I received a get well card from a close friend, in which she wrote: "I'm so proud of you for going through with your decision to get a new knee!". No one else has said anything like that to me, but after I read her comment, I thought - yea, I'm proud of myself too! I actually did not think I had it in me to have this surgery. My friend has listened to my moaning about my knee for years, so she is one person who was well aware of the strength of my surgery avoidance. All this to say, Barnmom22, be SO proud of yourself! You did it! I hope today brings you the solutions to get your comfort back.

I had itching and flushing all the first night, they thought it was the codeine (which turns to morphine in your system). They stopped the codeine as it was making me sick as well but had trouble controlling the pain and nausea with other drugs. But the itching went away.

Aw. You always know the right thing to say. And I am proud of myself. Still worried about getting home and managing pain. But I think have a good meds plan And my family has been amazing.

So now you are 8 days from surgery. How are you feeling? Getting some sleep? Taking oxy still?

I just posted on my own thread, Barnmom22, after I realized I had a lot to say about how I'm doing! I hope you have a window and can see some sunshine outside. It's hard to remember the globe is still turning when you're caught up in your trauma.

Was having a good day until I started itching all over. Then I started shaking like a leaf. Possibly reactions to the oxy. Maybe a fever. Nurse will sort it out for me soon.

I had the shaking but not the itching. I hope they can help you with both, and turn it back into a good day. You need a break, girl friend!

Congratulations on the walking. Doesn't it feel cool to use the knee?
Hope the itching and shaking resolve soon for you.
