Yes, I did read your comments to GrannyC about the nursing home in Texas. The photo I saw was so shocking and unbelievable I figured it was photo shopped. Sadly, it was reality. It's just unfathomable to think those poor people were sitting in water that deep, some in wheelchairs, no less! It was reported they were evacuated and are safe....thankfully!

We don't have any big plans for the holiday weekend yet. I'm sure we'll figure it out tomorrow. The last big hurrah of summer, lol! Last holiday, July 4th, I was only one week out of surgery. I'm glad that's behind me! Don't even recall what we did, haha! Must have been the drugs.....or anesthesia still fogging my brain back then.

Hey @Layla gorgeous one. No really we don't do anything on any holiday. It's all just another day to us.

The old people yes I saw the pictures but I saw some of them being rescued live...omg it was so cute one little ole lady had the rescue workers laughing which I'm sure they needed ..she was saying if she had known they were coming she would have put her wig on. They were all smiles and happy. I bet 3 days in waist deep water was a nightmare and potty OMG so sad. Now they had to rescue many in at least one hospital

I never heard the story of the elderly people on tv. Nor did I hear they sat in that water for 3 days. It had to be cold just as old bath water gets...and your skin shrivels. On the photo they looked as though they were sitting calmly, one woman was standing up.....appeared as though she was wading around. How did they sleep? They couldn't stay awake for three days!

And you're right, MAG, they obviously had to relieve themselves multiple times over three days. That story shocks me still, in so many ways! I did see a photo of them post rescue, dry, cleaned up, fresh clothing. I was happy to see it but can't imagine how they made it through. It's truly miraculous given the conditions they were living under at their age.

I've heard other stories coming out of Texas that made me cry. One of a 3 yr old toddler hanging onto / floating on her drowned mothers back. Rescued just in time as they were heading toward something (tressel, I believe?) that would have likely separated them and caused the toddler to drown. Unbelievable the devastation that can be caused by a weather event. Prayers for Texas.

Prayers for you too sweet thing as you near surgery. I wish you felt more at ease. I think you'll do fine as you know the drill. It's all too familiar as you just lived it. You know we'll be here to keep you company and cheer you on. Just focus on how great the holidays will be this year. You'll be 3 1/2 months out by Christmas. A fair amount of time between surgery and the end of the year for you to put on your fanciest clothes and go out dancing with the Saint to ring in the New Year!!

I'd join you but I'll be in bed by 10:00 pm

It's horrible they had to go through it but I saw an interview with one of them. They were tough old birds. Love love them. You don't get to be old by being a wimp.
You know you have tee-teed in the water before.
Extra respect for all of them, tough, and what stories to tell.

I hope to be pain free by the New Year ...hubby and I don't do much Christmas or New Year @Layla and we don't dance lol but pain free yes that would be nice. I bet your family will BBQ or picnic. I also hope you have a safe and fun holiday weekend and sadly yes I knew about the kid on dead mom made me so sad for both

I haven't gone back through your thread but can't quite remember? It was osteoarthritis that caused your hip problems?
And you knew this other one was coming? I went back and read the beginning of my thread the other day...remembering all the uncertainty.

Oh my stars, I was a basket case. I've been listening to the one-at-a-time double hippies saying the recoveries can be very different.
You have so much good mojo coming your way from all your fans in this site that you will have to do splendidly.

@MyAussieGirl I'll bet dollars to donuts you will be pain free and loping along in your best coat and hat and mittens and scarf and leggings and boots (I'm getting tired just thinking of how you have to dress!) by Jan 1 2018!

Somehow I don't think even in Georgia many people picnic in November. Smoke or deep fry a turkey, yes. I do remember one Thanksgiving that I had to give in and turn on the air conditioning-- 20 years ago maybe. Usually it's much cooler out here, and can even be cold, and has even snowed before Thanksgiving!

Take care this weekend MAG, and don't get swallowed up by that sofa!

Yes @Mojo333 it was indeed osteoarthritis but I joined this site 4days post op just whining on my boredom and prior to that was not anxious at all 0% you would not know me. I did get vexed on the constipation and issues with getting up and showers. But I didn't dread the surgery.

@zauberflöte it seems a sin to deep fry a turkey....white fish and turkey my favorite meats never BBQed or deep fried. I know in the south people aren't floating on lakes or picnicking ...though I am a on the lake kinda gal screw the picnic.....I'd have a heated pool if I lived in the south.

Ohhhh winter wear....I gave half my coats away and still have 6. I should warn ya all I HATE winter...thus why I chose this time for hip 2. I truly suffer SAD ...y'all don't want to know me then. Plus of November I do a lot that month to raise awareness and to educate plus fund raise for Epilepsy. November is the month for that cause.

It would be nice if I could wear some of my tart high boots this winter but.....

Oh, you would love love deep fried Turkey. Done at extremely high heat with peanut oil which had super high smoking point and great health benefits. Can lower bad cholesterol, raise good, been said to lower blood sugar in diabetics!
The turkey is so juicy it'll make you slap your granny.
Problem is its super dangerous if you don't know what you are doing, see on line videos for major disasters.
Did you get Zaub's Hippy's Hermits recipe?
Never mind..I know you. You will be eating burritos and Chinese food

Hope you're managing your pre-op anxiety. You're going to do well, I just know it!

@MyAussieGirl I totally agree with what @Layla said just now. I'm glad you are keeping busy now, it will help with the anxiety. Try get your rest too though. Keep your thoughts on the outcome of having 2 new hips and saying goodbye to the preop pain. You will do awesome..... one day at a time. I wish you well. Cheryl

Lol @Mojo333 I'll let you cook said turkey I'll try a few bites. No skin. You'd smack me sillier if we ate out together I spend huge amounts of time peeling breading and crunchy skins off chicken. Yum tacos, burritos, Almond boneless chicken...great ideas for lunch today.

Where can I find Zaubs recipe???? Is that the healthy muffin to help people poop easier???

I'm grateful and glad you'll all be here just don't be worrying cause I think it took me 4 days post OP to be able to stay focused enough to deal with the cell phone to do the net

You're a doll @Layla I hope you're right on the weather but I need warm water and it might take a few hot days to get the water temp up. Still I love you for wanting that for me. And who knows it could happen.

Jumping a bit.....Today we shall BBQ Brats I find them vile but hubby loves them I'm gonna bake some zucchini just lightly topped with bread crumbs. I bet you all BBQ too...I'll cut the cats nails ughhhh save me. Tend to pets so they are OK while I can't get on floor

Thank you @cpollock I am trying hard to do a good balance of rest and busy. Busy always seems to suit me best with 3 hrs before bed to read a book or watch a rental movie. That way I sleep a little longer and better. I have been sleeping some nights with just half my sleep meds that makes me happy.

We shaved by legs my OS cuts off all shaving 10 days before surgery. He is very fussy on no infections

Would the OS let you use an electric razor closer to surgery? That's been my go to the last couple years.
Easier and no cuts.

No grilling here today....maybe tomorrow? Just hanging with my daughter and granddaughter as my husband was hunting some animal today....I think doves, ugh... makes me sick to even type it. My daughter is also bothered at the thought, she laughed and wondered what he will do with with "doves".......make dove burgers, she asked kiddingly. Obviously there is no such thing, sure sounds weird and gross!

My sister peels the breading off of everything also, I'm used to it.
My son's birthday was today. He turned 26. I'm getting so old. Doesn't seem like he could be that old. Found the tackiest hippy-dippy cake for him. It was delicious though...not for diabetics!!!
