THR Audball on the other side Whoohoo

Annie I've never been given restrictions. Don't know if a roof counts. Lol. I have the scar diagonal at my bum, does that mean it's posterior?. I don't even know that.... as long as it doesn't hurt, surely that's a good sign?

Well, before y'all got on to the topic of pocket frogs there was a brief mention of the foam roller for the IT band. I started on the foam roller around 4 months post-op. I didn't have any restrictions either but I phoned and spoke with the physician's assistant (young gal who is very exercise friendly) to make sure that it was an ok type of stretch and that nothing would pop out. She gave me the okay!! :thumb:

Aud, scar on your bum means that your incision is posterior. My THR scar is on the front of my hip and is anterior -- my baby surgery scar is on the side and it is lateral.

Here's a little video of the IT band foam roller stretch. You don't have to cross your legs over like this person does you can stack them one on top of the other.

Oh, and I think that walking in a straight line is over rated!! You just want to walk and be on your own side of the sidewalk and get from point A to point B. It is ok if you are not going perfectly straight... If you feel like it's too difficult or you are limping stay on the cane for a bit longer.

Take care & good luck with the little froggies :heehee:

alexthecat One day my family will upgrade me to a smart phone and I'll be able to raise some frogs too!! :yahoo:

zauberflöte Do It!! I learned about rolling my IT band 6 years before my THR and found it to be a wonderful stretch pre-op and that was why I was so happy to be able to do it post-op without the threat of my fake hip popping out :) There are different densities of foam rollers available out there and at home I started with a fairly dense, yet soft, blue one and have now moved up to a more dense white one. If given the option of black -- don't buy that one yet, it's super hard and unforgiving!! Practice all your different rolling now and then when you are post op and feel the urge to go back to it you'll have a good frame for comparison and know how to do it.

Doing ok today Aud??

Take care,
Cardie

C Mac well.... if you say so! I cannot imagine how rolling on my (ordered from Amazon) white (because that's all they had?) foam roller is going to be less painful than lying on the wood floor on my hip, which is not my entertainment of choice! Bursitis, could be. But when it comes, I will give it a try! Maybe I will pad it with bubble wrap LOL

I had a huge treadmill In my room for four year and gave my sis in law it last year when I thought I'd never use it again. Lol.... typical me. Ha

well *I* had a white foam roller in my closet till we moved 6 yrs ago and I gave it away b/c new house has too few closets. The things cost MONEY! Never thought I'd use it-- didn't know all the varied uses. Dang!:tantrum:

You two are cracking me up. :rotfl: You don't actually need special equipment to recover from THR. Thousands of people do quite well without that. These are just suggestions of things you might try. :)

alexthecat Oh I know, but I had the roller for back problems 15 years ago! And my own treadmill is for managing cardiopulmonary health (and,ok,weight...)
Glad to be of service cracking you up! :) :rotfl:

Its the fact that we already HAD the expensive equipment. Ha ha ha..... hubby bought it when I was pregnant with my daughter. Never asked my opinion. And it probably made my hips worse. I was running on and off up until two years ago when the pain started to get worse. Lol

Well, in that case, you should make him buy you another one! :rotfl:

Hi Aud, how you doing? I would love a treadmill but the decent ones are just far too expensive and they are humongous as you say, you need lots of space to fit one in. I have an exercise bike and was trying to get family to take it off my hands for ages before my surgery. I was very pleased we still had it post surgery though. Guess I was meant to keep it eh! Now I am trying to persuade my Dad he could do with using it.haha.

Just watching Ant and Dec, the computer was in Newcastle this week, apparently the queues were ridiculously long to have a go. Not that I would have even attempted to have a go, my dancing leaves a lot to be desired these days, I think I am nearly a 'Nanna dancer'.lol...my kids would definitely say that. I see the computer is in Glasgow next week.

Take care

Ann.x.

I watched Ant and Dec Too. Dunno that I'd want on the telly though. Lol
Had a rough couple of days. My doctor told me that when my mst (morphine) ran out, just take normal painkillers. Weeeeeeell I had 2 fun days of withdrawal. Had to go to a and e after.... sweating but felt freezing. Shaky... went to pizza hut and nearly dropped the plate. Anxious.... doc at hospital said I should have been on reduced doses, she was shocked. But my doctor never even bothered to get me xrayed when I complained of joint pain. Even though my file said hip disease. ....feel loads better now. :yikes:

Hi Aud,

Hope you are feeling better and shame on the doc for not helping you to taper down on those meds. I am coming to Scotland as they've just about eliminated all the eat-in Pizza Huts here in our area and I always liked their salad bar...

Happy Easter & take it easy,
Cardie

Hi Audball. That sounds rough, sorry to hear about the meds mess up. How are you feeling now - have they been able to give you something to help?

(On the theme of food outlets in Scotland, I heard that Scotland now has its first Krispy Kremes shop as well?)

Thanks.. I laughed at the pizza hut comment.... reminded me of my Aunty Rachel in NZ... she gave me a recipe for a cake and was shocked that our supermarkets sold lemons. Lol. Quite a few pizza huts nearby. And I'm between Glasgow and Edinburgh. .. heard crispy creme was opened. Lots of people I work with driving up to get donuts. :)

You don't need it.... but how much better do you feel in brand new training clothes and expensive equipment that you use twice..... then it makes a fancy clothes horse.lol
