Revision THR Another Second Chance

@Layla @Mojo333

This glute is really a big pain! Obviously all the sitting in the car and basketball ganes I’ve been doing is probably a little to blame. But can the whole no PT and minimal walking add into that?

Well... I may have answered my own question.
Piriformis Syndrome. I have a call into the OS office and will find out how much of those stretches I can get away with.

I spoke to the PT about my tight glutes on unoperated leg (due to knee problems) he gave me a stretchy resistance band to put just below knees and to move the leg out (ablate)until I feel the glutes & then hold for a few seconds x 10 per day... it seems to be helping!! To do lying down !

I did a search here on BS and found some good Piriformis stretches. I’m still only 4 weeks out and haven’t been prescribed PT yet, so I want to double check!
See @Layla, I’m learning!

Do you want Josephine on the case?
It's your call...I see she's online, no promises she'll get to you right away, it depends
how long her list is currently. We can tag her if you'd like her to weigh in.

Here's a radiographic history of my right hip!

It was some of her articles on Piriformis that I found. Sounds like it matches my symptoms 99%.

Just got the call from my OS office regarding what I can add to help this glute pain.

As suspected, I can do some light piriformis stretches as well as some hip flexor stretches in order to keep both sides equally stretched and working. When I see them again in two weeks, they will probably add some PT.

This is so different from last time. It’s really bumming me out. By the 4 week mark last time I was doing 2-3 miles on the elliptical already. PT had started and I was getting great results. I had also walked almost 3 miles at the Great American Beer Festival!!

I was just thinking about festivals.. there’s a big fair this weekend that we always go to. I don’t think I could even make it from the car to the carnival in this shape... but the beer tent is fairly close to the parking! Hmmm....:

In the early stages of healing, it's important to have simple, well defined goals. I think you just found one!

Watershed moment.

As I bounce back and forth between BS and my Cardiac Athlete (CA) group, I have finally figured something out. As a member of CA, we support each other as BS does. Some members of CA are extraordinary people. There are folks that are running Ironman Triathlons after quad bypass procedures! One member in particular is also fighting a rare bone cancer in addition to his cardiac history including a pacemaker. He has logged over 2,000 miles on his bicycle already this year.
He ends every one of his FB posts with this quote,
“Squeeze the rest of your life into the rest of your life. Have no fear, fight with everything you have & live life to the fullest.”

That is why I push myself. I am a member of two unique groups. I will persevere. I will protect my new hip so that I can continue to represent both groups!

Day 29.
I’m not so sure about post-op blues as much as post-op boring! If I am feeling blue it is because of this reduced activity. Knowing that I will slowly begin adding more activity soon is enough to keep me from falling into the ‘blues’.

We actually hired a landscaper to do something of the normal tedious clean-up around the yard. He’s out there now on his hands and knees doing the grunt work. I kind of miss it but.... maybe not.

Since he is back there, I had to take Boss out for a short walk. First dog walk since the op. He did really well until a neighbor came by and her goody Golden Retriever got off leash. I had to raise my voice a little but Boss responded well.

Along with the op side glute/piriformis acting up, now the left side is chirping in! I’ll be on my back a lot today stretching!

The final couple steri strips came off overnight. The scar is looking great! Can’t wait to get some PT on it and soften it up. Also let it completely close so I can start walking in the pool! I logged thousands of meters walking in the lap pool at the gym last time. Great therapy!

Aww, Boss is cute! :dogsniff:

Look at that lush geeen grass covered by snow...weird!
Remember the song on Sesame St
One of these things is not like the others, one of these things doesn't belong?
That photo brought it to mind, lol.
Have a good one!

Wow. I'm so lucky to be in Charleston, South Carolina where, like Mojo and Layla, have the warmer temperatures. I swear these warmer temperatures year-round have been a huge help to my arthritis. Had considered briefly returning to Johnstown, Pennsylvania where my family is until I read the weather report up there. They are hitting a high of 50° today. No thanks. Can't take it. Need a state with palm trees and water, the ocean. Good luck to you Second Chance, you're doing great.
