I received a message from someone who said they have followed me since the beginning and it made me realize how many people read, but don't ever comment or say a word.
I just want to say this.
Knee replacement is NOT easy. It's not something that happens over night. It isn't something that heals by itself.
It's a journey. Recovery is a roller coaster ride. And I will tell you this....there are days where I scream out with tears streaming down my face "WHY?!" Because it hurts. Because it doesn't just go away. It involves making the whole body readjust itself. A lot depends on what your injury/cause that led to why you had a knee replacement. Myself....I was injured badly three years ago. I haven't walked right, I haven't used the muscles right, and I gained weight from not being able to do much of anything. I did my job (waitressing) and came home and iced and cried. My children were wonderful and helped as much as they possibly could. But it was norm for Mom not to be able to say "go to the park, the pool, for a hike" all the things I had once did, without even batting an eye.
The pain consumed me. I was asked to PLEASE try a pain med, I refused. I lived on ibuprofen. I dealt with it. My limp got worse and worse. Two weeks before surgery I asked to be taken out of work. I couldn't waitress anymore. Every time someone would ask for a refill, or more sauce I would tighten up inside. And it was MY JOB to walk and serve them, and I wasn't able to do it. My customers were amazing. So many could tell exactly what was wrong. (How could the not?!)...the most important thing my customers told me......"DO YOUR PT AFTER" At the time I can remember thinking "duh....why wouldn't I?!" But now I see how easy it is to just hurt so bad and not want to do the exercises because the cause more pain. But the pain isn't really pain, it's discomfort. If it were pain, then I would STOP. But I am not using muscles that I haven't used like this, correctly in a very long time.
SO to you......you that are reading and don't ever comment....I say this to you.... Knee replacement is a journey. It's ups and downs.....but the journey is amazing. For you see, I have been tested, everything about who I am has been tested. I have found ME again. The real honest to goodness me who is passionate and strong. I am 44 years old. Now is MY time to live again. I can walk my puppies today. I can walk down the block and back....walk, not limp. I may not be fast like I use to be....but if you were to drive by me.....I would look like a normal every day person and you would have no clue of my story.
You see we all have stories to tell. Each of us. I thank Bonesmart for giving me an outlet to tell mine!
