Could you pinpoint the place of this pain using this chart? Identify column and row using the reference numbers.

I'd also like to know:
1. what are your pain levels right now? (remember the 1-10 scale: 1 = no pain and 10 = the worst you can imagine)

2. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc., and

5. what kind of PT/exercises are you doing? How much and how often? (details would be appreciated!)

@LPLaura - OMGoodness... I do hope you have had an x-ray by now?

I will be in touch - hang in there honey :)

Hugs from OZ

Thank you all. Sorry Jo, for another thread:)

Areas D,E,F ... Today, pain level is 2. I can walk with support device. I took 3 aleve 220mg.
I have been up and down a LOT with kids on Base, 5 months. Squatting, twisting, walking, on my feet most days. My PT is about 2x a week in hotel Gym; 20min Treadmill, 15 min Eliptical. Some leg PT exercises. Some night time light PM Yoga. (nothing intense)

When I had the sharp, odd pain last night, I was on the toilet. Yes, the toilet. I sat down and it 'torked' on me. That sharp odd pain. In the D,E,F areas.
I freaked out and thought I could not walk.
I'm wondering this:
I am working here alone, where I don't speak the language. I can't use Medical on base.
I was alone, when I FELL 2 years ago.
Last night, I started to pass out, feeling sick and hot. (Just like when I fell 2 years ago). Panic and flushed, laid down.

No X-Ray yet, as forget trying to get one on Base ER. I'm Civilian Contractor.
I have put in request to a Japanese contact, via an English speaking friend, to inquire how to go about getting X-Ray off Base. They have pretty good healthcare here in Okinawa.
Friend is a Pediatric Ortho, so perhaps he has suggestion.

I think too, not being able to talk with Doctor is hard, emotionally.
He is very sick, evidently. We all work to darn hard.

This same kind of Incident happened about 4 weeks ago. Out of nowhere. I got into my tiny Japanese car, and boom, felt that sharp kind of 'tork'. I iced it down that day, rested. It went away as quickly as it came?

I also drive a LOT on this tiny Island. I'm in the car with Right foot on Gas about 2 hours per day.

Maybe I am doing too much up and down, bending, Etc.?

THANK YOU. I'm feeling very alone here. I haven't gotten health insurance yet. Was waiting for Self-Employment Benefits to go down in the States, per Affordable Healthcare Act now in existence.

Look forward to hearing from you!
Laura

Hi Laura, I will tag @Josephine to be sure she reads your reply. Jo is in the UK, so different timeframe to you and I, however, she will be along soon.

I can imagine how scary this is being so far from home.

You make me feel lazy with the amount of exercise you are doing however, I too find that bending impacts me with quite severe pain and swelling. But I ice and it does go down. I am doing a lot more different types of movements, gardening, with all the bending lifting, leaning crouching etc. the more I do of these types of movements, the more I hurt and get concerned, but I don't have pain walking - do you?

Hi Down Under! Thank you for writing to me!

No pain in Walking. Just 2x in past month, all of a sudden, Boom. Sharp pain and leg wants to give out.
I just get that sick Panic, like I got when I fell and broke it the first time.

I got a Massage and left the base early. I figure I had better stop the up and down, Floor with kids thing. It's past time probably. Kicking balls. I just need to rethink my plan.
I think I will travel 6 more months maybe. Then go back home to more stable environment.
Well, if you can call the States and the metro city life stable?

It's a whacky world, right Poppet?! Love & HUGS to you and yours!
Thank you for reaching out!:yes!:

I am so pleased you have decided to ease back on the activities with the kids - I am pleased you don't have pain on walking as I am sure that would be one of the first indicators of a more serious issue. I hope it is muscular and all the extreme movements :)

Check out this article I wrote about the healing phases and time frames.

https://bonesmart.org/forum/threads/healing-phases-nutrition.21918/

I always aimed for two years for a full recovery, but as I lay here with an ice pack on my hip I have had to rethink my recovery timeframe and I suspect I will modify my activities to avoid the pain and hurt.

Hugs from me to you xx

So Poppet...That is a very cool Article you wrote, and user-friendly for nutrition term dummies:)

Is it possible that these quirk painful experiences can be related to moving through more Healing that is taking place? Like, maybe things are still rearranging, stretching, trying to reorient?

Very cool read. Thanks for sharing it with me. I will DEFINITELY cut out all this crazy up and down play with these little children...Too much. The school age kids are fine. I can carry conversations with them.
If I go back to Hospital/psych work I'm surely not going to go on Codes, I can guarantee that:)

Ah yes, this ole body does not feel like a young body. That's for Certain!

Areas D,E,F
Those are just the horizontal references. I need the column references as well otherwise they mean nothing!
I took 3 aleve 220mg.
ibuprofen is not a very effective pain med. You'd be better off using Tylenol (paracetamol) at the rate of 1,000mg four times a day.

Activity:
PT is about 2x a week in hotel Gym
20min Treadmill 15mins would be better
15min Elliptical 10mins would be better but either the treadmill or the elliptical not both
Some leg PT exercises Some? :skep: Did I not ask for details .... by which I meant specifics - reps, sets, weights if used.
Some night time light PM Yoga Again I need specifics!

I am working here alone, where I don't speak the language. I can't use Medical on base.

Last night, I started to pass out, feeling sick and hot. (Just like when I fell 2 years ago).

Yes, I'd say your response to this is purely a panic attack and anxiety state. All understandable but when you get into this state, all your muscles everywhere tighten up making a simple strain feel like something much more serious. And once I get all the information I asked you for, I may be able to help define what that is.
I got into my tiny Japanese car, and boom, felt that sharp kind of 'tork'. I iced it down that day, rested. It went away as quickly as it came?
Yep, it almost confirms what I am thinking but I need the extra info first.

Oh my goodness, Jo, I am so Not Detail oriented:) That is why I am not a Nurse:)

Okay:
Front only; R1F, R2F

My PT is intermittent, only. I have not been Consistent at all so only 1x a week for
Reps of 10 (only!) Front knee lifts, side lifts, calf pumps, back lifts

Yoga, 1-2x per week. 15 min. "Am/Pm Yoga with Rodney Yi"
Down Dog, stretches, mostly. Very beginner poses.

I think that's it.
The Muscle Tension makes total sense.
That's why maybe all my muscles were shaking?

Love, Hugs, Peace, Love! :puppysmooze:

p.s. Today still the same. Add R5B, in Back of Leg, too.
Got the Tylenol.
Not pushing myself at all. Just showing up and using Umbrella as Cane:)
(oh yes, am I still a Junior Member:::::::)))))) haha.

Hi Poppet are you there? I'm waiting for Jo's response....
I have a Contact here in Okinawa, Ortho. I can get an X-ray I think, this week!
Maybe on Xmas day :) haha. The Non-Xmas celebration this year, for me.
I am walking better. Thinking, I have overworked myself.
I hope so.....

I can't locate your email, Poppet....Can you send me one?
Thank you! Laura P

Laura, those are only the vertial refrences! In order to define them properly, each square needs two references, the vertical one and the horizontal one. Okay?
My PT is intermittent, only. I have not been consistent at all so only 1x a week for reps of 10 (only!) Front knee lifts, side lifts, calf pumps, back lifts
Yes, as I thought. Too much at one sitting. You'd be much better doing just 5 at time every other day.
Down Dog, stretches
You mean this one? Is that of any value? Never heard of that being done at 6 weeks before. I think it may an unwise move. @alexthecat

Yoga is great, but only six weeks after revision? That seems a little ambitious. I would suggest giving that a pass for at least another six weeks and, even then, only to return to it if the issues you're having now are completely resolved.

Hi Alex, It's been 2 years now....They just used my Original Post from then, as I had a Locking Ring installed at that time.! Don't worry! Best to you
Laura

Monday, Dec 23 ....... Coordinates for Jo:

Today:
R2F/E
R1F/D
R5B/E

I continue to do Tylenol 1000mg 4x daily. Zero exercise, except light walking at work.
No getting down or up. No treadmill. Too skittish.
Just taking it easy, and Icing when in bed after work.

THANK YOU, JO!
Laura P

I'm confused then. Your signature says "Right Revision THR November 8, 2013". Is that correct? If that was the date of your revision, it is too soon to be doing yoga. You need to give the soft tissues time to heal before engaging in that sort of activity.

That's better! So I end up with this picture, yes?

[Bonesmart.org] 6 Weeks post-Op with Locking Ring due to Dislocation

I would suggest the following
1. is very likely Trochanteric bursitis
2. I have no idea!
3. also likely to be Piriformis syndrome

Both 1 and 2 are very common complications after hip surgery and of doing to much PT!
Hope this helps and that you have a

:merry xmas:
