julie

At last you seem to be getting your recovery on track. You have had a difficult time and I do hope you are begining to feel pain free and better.

I do think your surgeon in ultimatly responsible for your care during the operation and therefore your dislocation.

I have agreed today to have my left hip done in October, so I hope your experience is not typical!

Regards

Dave

Julie

thanks for your comment oin Catherines thread

"..........Dave - yours will go fine as well. Like you said, mine wasn't typical but I WILL be there along with all the other 2 hippy's !!!........."

I know you will get there - I have no doubt. Resolve and determination - Its what we all need and I am certain you have that quality to get over your present hurdle.

thanks again,

With kindest regards

Dave

Thanks so much Dave,

Today actually has been a much better day. Still using walker and haven't progressed to cane yet, but you know what, that's o.k., I will one of these days soon. All I know is I'm feeling better, feeling stronger and not hurting as much so that's all I can ask for.

My mom stopped by earlier since by boyfriend is working out of town and she brought me a plate for dinner tonight and stayed while I got in shower and today was first day I finally even blow dried my hair out and it just felt nice to have that done. Something so simple to make you feel back to somewhat normal.

Thanks again Dave and I know your going to be happy with your next surgery as well. We need to have a reunion !!! :cocktail:

Hey Julie. I have missed a lot and need to get caught up after spending a few days in the hospital, but wanted you to know that I am thinking of you.

Don't worry about going slower with this recovery. You know that sooner or later it will just happen. Go easy on yourself and appreciate what you are able to do.

Every day is one day closer to to being fully recovered! So just take it one day at a time. Before you know it you will be good as new. Hang in there and go with the flow, even if it's one step forward, two steps back.

Eventually we all get to the same place :wink1:.

Thanks Janet and yes you are right, eventually we all get to the same place. I surely hope that you are improving......what stuff you have been through. UGH.

Each day I'm seeing more improvement, today I've been doing work from home and even though it's just working on my laptop entering invoices and working on speadsheets, I'm exhausted now. I've been doing it all morning and sitting so legs not elevated at all. Rest time for me now.

Tomorrow staples come out and we'll see what he says. I want to see about the groin pain and the pain further in the rear side. I think those muscles ache more from him getting me put back in place.

On a good note: PT was out last night and she had me try the cane and I walked about 10-15 ft with it. She said she sees me doing in more at home now but not outside of the house as she saw the unsteadiness still. I will not risk anything happening to this side so not rushing to get outside with cane right yet anyway.

Other good note: My daughter and her boyfriend from NC are arriving tomorrow to visit for the weekend. It will be very nice to see them. :yahoo:

Hi Julie, good news about staples out and cane. Enjoy your daughter's visit, and don't jump up too much to entertain.

Hi Julie - didn't it feel great to be able to use the cane - albeit even for a short distance :thumb:

I'll be thinking of you when I get my staples out tomorrow as well - another milestone to check off the list!

Hope your daughter's visit is wonderful!

Liz

Wow! Twins almost! Good luck to you both. I felt much better once all my 24 stitches were out ! That was a doozie of a scar! Because of the fracture they had to go beyond it. Well, in any event, they took "8" out at a time for 3 days. But, I sure felt good once they were out. You will too :wink1: !

I don't know why, but I have never been able to get a feel for the cane. I am an odd duck! Even having the latest issues, I have tried again to use it and had to go back to the crutch!

I envy you both, and all the other hippies that have successfully mastered the cane! Sounds like a Seinfeld episode...cane envy :th_heehee:...:loll:I am nutty...

Well today was first time out of house, had staples removed, OS said things look good. Wants me to start Outpatient PT starting next week, he said I can sleep however I want. May try tonight to get on other side and he said just put pillow between legs. I'll give it a little try. He said as far as knees go, we will just get hips strong first and see if the knees feel better then and if not will then discuss and get the next MRI of left knee. My next appointment with him is 9/8 and other than that he just said, keep getting everything strong.

I'm hoping to be able to really start using cane a lot more in next couple of days and hopefully soon be completely over to only cane.

Well off for us to go pick my daughter and her boyfriend up at airport and a nice dinner out. Won't be going crazy while she's here as she's here to see too many others and tonight is really our only night together except for her staying with us.

NYLiz, hope you had good report today too !!!!

Hurray Julie! So glad your first trip out of the house and your appointment with your OS went well. I think once you start getting use to the cane, it'll be all you want to use, except when you are are really tired or if you have to get up in the middle of the night to use the loo. Again, enjoy your visit with your daughter!

Yes - I got my staples out today too, but will post my saga over on my recovery thread.

Liz

Well Liz, it took half the morning to strip my sheets by myself and put fresh linens on since I sweat at night so bad, but I did on my own, then showering on my own and getting ready and before I knew it, time to go to OS. Then go to that visit and go to store on way home only to leave and go get my daughter and out to dinner.

I am home now from my first trip out since surgery and EXHAUSTED..... have taken no pain meds since noon and it's almost 9 hours later......DUH...no wonder I'm sore, worn out, feel bad, etc......

Tomorrow it's back to normal because I have no entertaining to do while she's here, so time to take it easy.

Good night all !!! :sleepz:

BTW Julie, your scars look great! Just saw them in another thread. Never saw them in that spot before! Well done!

Hi Julie
Despite being so soon out of your second hip surgery, you are doing so well and I'm sure everyone will be along to say 'remember to take it easy'. It's great to be able to do things for the first time for yourself isn't it? Like bed stripping and hair drying. I always try to remind myself how difficult and painful things used to be when I feel that they are now becoming chores! How is the sleeping position going? I managed on my right side at about 3 months with comfort and am only now just on the left side without being woken by discomfort. Enjoy your daughter's visit

Hi Catherine,

My daughter has been on the go while she is here, so I see her in passing in the mornings and evenings and then she'll be gone tomorrow. It's been nice though. :mornincoffee:

I tried to get onto my oldest op side and pillow between the legs and still feels like it may do something wrong so I stopped and back onto my back. I will so look forward in a little bit more time to be able to change sleeping positions.

I stayed in all day yesterday but used cane for walking in the house all day and sure do feel it. My leg is a bit stiffer and sore today from so much use. I know to just take it easy and one day at a time.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Saturday. :friends:

Oh boy! Do I remember when I was home about a month (got home 4/24/10) and decided i just HAD to pick out the flowers for our parents planters for Memorial Day, end of May! What was I thinking ?

I was using a walker in the house, so figured the cart would be the same. Unfortunately, there were hoses all over the ground and it was a nightmare trying to push the HUGE OVERSIZED CART over them!

Well, I lived, but I sure paid for it for a few days.

We all over-do it in the beginning. We learn not to do it again and move on!

Sounds like you had a great day though :wink1:...

Julie you are doing very well! The balance of rest and activity is the hardest part. You want to go .... and your body isn't quite ready. Just keep trying - it will come. Hope you are getting some much needed rest!

Thanks Cappy, tomorrow starts outpatient PT so that will really start the work with it. It's still by far very much slower than last one, but it's done!!! Now it's the healing. My OS said something about the cup or liner or something being really thin in a area and that has some rubbing going on and it needs the muscles to get back around it and all. Something to that affect anyways. Also the dislocation hasn't helped with why the groin is still hurting.

It's just going to take TIME..........

Best of luck to you Cappy, not much longer and you'll be in the same 2 hip club !!!
