Janet, that's right , of course I didn't really catch everything he said about the cup being thin in an area and what that is about. Duh.... I was trying to catch everything else real quick about what I could/couldn't do and all of a sudden he shoots this out.

Wish me luck, my PT is in less than 2 hours and I didn't sleep well last night. Sleeping stiff on my back my back is always soaked at night and I put a towel down to sleep on. I attempted a few times to get on my side and that was o.k. for awhile but I couldn't get my arms in a decent position so my shoulders wouldn't ache. My thigh is SOOOOO stiff and sore in the morning. I know he'll do a lot of electrolysis and ice in the quad area so hopefully that will help stimulate everything. Bad thing, I haven't had pain meds since 1:30 this a.m. and I'm going to drive myself so I'll have to wait till I get home to take anything. :cry4: I will come home afterwards and just stay on the meds today and take it easy though. Like I don't everyday (take it easy).

It's getting old !!! I'm a good 2 weeks behind on how the other hip was in recovery. I have a vacation booked and planned so I have incentive to get well. We are going to Vegas and Arizona on September 16th. Get ready Donna (Pomperson) for a bi-hippie reunion !! :hysterical:

Well I'm back from 1st day of outpatient PT. I've been seeing the same therapist since December for 1st, herniated discs in back which then led to finding out it was my hip so saw him after hip replacement and now 2nd hip replacement. Feel like I know them all so well. :th_heehee:

Well we went through all the measurments for range of motions, WOW.... and prior he had a student in with him and he told the student how much I've been through this year and then he did the "so how are you doing Julie?", the faucet opened and the tears started streaming. I hate when that happens, but my therapist Cheung, is SOOOO good and understanding. He knew I was depressed.

So....we started the exercises. Today was only really balancing and you know what???? I did so much better than last hip. I was shocked by how well I did the balancing. He then had me do a couple other exercises and that was it and ice at home. Tomorrow I go back and will have more time to do other stuff. He said he WILL have me fit for vacation and for my b'day. It's so nice when you have such a rapport and they also are truely understanding.

In one session, I feel like I am on my way and I will try to stop this stupid crying thing that's been going on. I know, I know, it's post-op depression and I know myself it happened last time as well, so this too shall pass. :thumb:

Rest, Ice, Elevate and meds for me today !!

Thanks everyone for being there for me and us all and for understanding, most others don't understand the "blues" thing.

Aw Julie, I remember doing the same thing - water works at my first PT. But it sounds like you are really on track. So good that you have a supportive PT. It really does make all the difference.

Hang in there - at least you know the tears are only temporary! :console:

Julie - it must be the day of tears and PT. Tears started flowing as soon as in-home PT came through the door today. If you can hang in there, then so can I, despite the 'blues'! Glad to hear PT went well for you today.

Liz

Well it's almost 4 weeks !!

Total weight loss since first surgery 15 lbs, yeah........ not much of appetite anymore.

Sleep - wake at night about every 1-2 hours. Can't nap this time for some reason during daytime.

Pain - not too bad anymore, just aches at end of day. Stiff in a.m. getting out of bed for first 1/2 hour or so.

PT - going very well. It's making a hugh difference. Only thing now that I'm walking more and using cane now is that I can tell the LLD. I didn't notice before because I wasn't walking and standing as much but now I can and when I'm on my feet too long is when I get low back pain and pain in the butt bone. PT said he's hoping this will work itself out when he measured me. I sure hope so as I didn't have it with 1st THR.

That's where I'm at with things and I'm glad my "post op" blues have gone away for the most part. My friends all say I look so much better, color returned and don't have that pain in my face look anymore. :yay:

Aww, for four weeks, I think you are doing fantastic! You know it takes about four months for things to really settle down, don't you? Don't worry about the LLD, I think we all worry about that!

I was soooo convinced that I had a huge LLD, and now that I am walking without pain, it is gone! The pain was making me limp, and the limp was making me appear to have an LLD. Not so!

You are so early in both of these recoveries, and I know for me anyway, I couldn't see a lot of progress for a year! I think by one year post-op you will be amazed. I saw progress, don't get me wrong, but I mean REAL finished product!

Hang in there Julie, cry tears of JOY if need be, but if you cry so what! You've been thru a lot in four months. Not many people could do what you have done. Be proud of yourself for being so strong :cat-kittyandsmiley:!

Janet thank you for the kind words of support !! I have gone back and re-read all my threads from 1st surgery to this one and think, wow all of that in 4 months. Yes that's a lot in a short periord of time. :friends:

Well I'm at about 4 months post-op with my right hip and 4 weeks post-op with my left hip. :yay:

Right hip is doing well. Still get some tightness on and off but bascially if I didn't know I had it replaced, I wouldn't know the difference.

Left hip is starting to get better. I can now lift it from a laying postion off the table @ PT or the bed. Strength is really starting to get there. Still have LLD that I can feel. My PT does his re-eval in a couple more weeks so he'll re-do all my measurements so we will see where it's at then compared to when he first measured it. I am still having nagging pains in by butt bone, right at the bottom of the rear and low back pain on that side as well. If it wasn't for that I would be feeling really good I think.

My knees still haven't improved a lot. My left knee still is hurting a lot. I go back for my next visit on 9/8 so I think I'll see if he'll do an injection in that knee like he did with the right knee. I want a break for awhile and just heal from 2 surgeries before anything else is done.

So far, so good.......wouldn't have changed having it all done. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Julie

Good report

You are really getting there. I'm begining to feel envious!

That's a great progress report, Julie!!! I'm happy for you and I'm sure things are going to continue to get better.

Thanks Jamie, PT again in a hour so that's always good. So stiff in the morning. I just feel like with both legs I need to stretch them so much before I get going. Hopefully sleep will get better as you see my posts in Sleepless in Bonesmart land.

Hey Julie just wanted to offer my support - I've been on/off here and just happened to catch a recent post of yours - you have been through a LOT - more than most people could handle in the past few months - I think you are doing great - and try not to compare one surgery to the other - I know its hard not to - I'm in same boat!

Take care a ttys
xoxoxo,
Linda

Thanks Linda and I know it's hard not to compare and I know you know more than anyone. Thankfully I don't have to cope with little ones like you are.

We just all need a break from this all one day right??? :friends: I know our husbands/boyfriends want that too. :th_heehee:

Hi Julie, I think you are good after everything you've been through. It has been quite the year for you and your body. Just a bummer about the knees. Sorry. Hopefully you'll get another shot, and that'll help with the hip as well. I had my leg measured again yesterday at my 12 week check up. It still feels long, and I cannot put both legs together standing, only a few inches apart. But I have the same length I was told. Need more time and walking I guess. And I am still very stiff in the morning. Be patient my dear. One day Pilates will readjust your limbs:biggrin:

That is right, one day Pilates will help it all. I can't wait to hear more from Donna. WOW is all I can say about what a wonderful recovery so far she has made. Bi-laterals and doing so well. I hope too that the leg length works itself out. I guess when I didn't have it with my first and then the second one was done I just figured it wouldn't be.

I had PT with the assistant today and on Friday I see the therapist so will talk more to him about everything. I did tell him today that my left knee is starting to feel worse instead of better and I do feel my strength is really improving a lot with my hips. I know I need more time and things will get better. I'm just so concerned about what will be next with the knees. When will it stop???? :hissyfit:

I will keep my chin up and my happy face on !!

6 Week Check Up Report:

Well I had my appointment today and bascially everything I already knew. Hips are doing well, just keep up with exercises at home (leg lifts with weights) since I'm done with PT and start work again.

Left leg is longer than right. He knew that I guess when he was doing surgery. (I asked for my Op notes which were interesting to read and it shows in there that he had to go shorter or longer and elected longer for more stability). He gave me script for if I want to get shoe insert lift. It's 1/4" and even though by looking at 1/4" and thinking it's not much, I feel it in my left lower back after walking a lot.

Found out finally what I have all in me: TaperLoc Microplasty Hip Stem - I guess it's shorter than a normal stem and it's made from porous, plasma sprayed titanium. Then for the other it's a Biomet RIngLoc & Poly RingLoc liner. So is that metal on metal? I know liner is Poly so I'm kind of confused about what the materials are when everyone says metal on metal or ceramic on ceramic, etc.

I received injection in left knee like I had in right knee and MRI going to be done on that knee since still in pain.

Return visit 4 weeks.

That's about it. I feel o.k. Tired a lot. Don't sleep well at all. Appetite nothing like it used to be so there went 20 lbs and I'm not complaining by that. :th_heehee: Still hurt when I do too much but no pain meds really at all anymore.

Will report again when I know about the knees.

Thanks all !!!!! You all are the best.
