Thanks Linda!! It's just so depressing. I was not prepared for this by any means. I don't care what the OS says anymore about I need to do this or I need to do that. What I need is to first start healing and then worry about getting strength back.

@ Dave, you are right. He is the one responsible for this.

Thanks everyone for listening. Other people just don't understand this.
:sigh:

Aw Julie - sure hope you are feeling a bit better. As we see here all the time - every replacement is different. Please don't get discouraged! You'll get there!

I agree that others' do not understand - my neighbors have no idea what I've been through and what's still left to come...that's why so glad we have this forum :wink1:

I hope your trip home today is uneventful! I will b thinking of you!

xoxo,
Linda

Hi Julie, sorry you are feeling so down, understandable after all that happened. Hang in there, you're going home! After a succesful trip to the bathroom you'll feel a little better, and hopefully the swelling will start to subside. Take it easy:sleepz:

Thanks everyone! The pee is FINALLY flowing and I had my first BM. After lunch I should be released. Occupational Therapist will help with getting into car & my mom will meet us at home to help get me settled.

I think once I can ice more than they were doing, I will see a huge difference. My knee is just huge. I know rehab will be more difficult this time, but I'm finally done!!

Whew! I was hurting for you today Julie. After my spinal surgery I had the same "waterworks" problem. The pain from that was worse than the surgical pain!

So glad you are feeling better. Yes - hope you have that ice pack ready. It really does make a difference.

Safe trip home! You are now on your way to a pain free life! :yay:

First night at home went well. I have been in recliner except for going to bathroom. I am still in a lot of pain and it's very hard to bend the knee of that leg. I'm still VERY swollen and my tailbone and that side of rear are in a lot of pain.

I have to wonder if the tailbone area and butt area are so sore from the closed manipulation he did to get the dislocation corrected? This recovery is so hard compared to the other. My groin is very sore as well.

Basically just getting up for bathroom is about all I can do right now and with even that I need help with getting myself up to the walker and then it takes forever to get the leg to move for me.

I sure do hope some of this subsides soon.... :cry4:

Oh Julie, welcome home! You sound like me during my first 1 - 2 weeks. It will subside, but you must take your medications, don't skip. And stay in your recliner, nap and do your foot exercises. Hang in there, it will get better on day at a time:ok:

Glad you are home :yes 4:

Take things one day at a time - it might not seem like it now but things will get better...slowly...they will :wink1:

ttys,
xoxo,
Linda.

Julie are you taking your meds regularly? Do you perhaps need them tweeked a bit? I do hope you aren't having constant pain!

Don't worry about doing anything more than the basics now. Rest is all you need to be doing.

Happy healing!

Thanks Jaycey and I agree to right now just do the basics. I just washed up and brushed teeth and changed clothes and that took everything out of me.

I'm keeping up with pain meds, but forgetting some doses at night so i need to really keep up with it at night time.

Home health nurse came out this a.m. and will be here tomorrow to change main bandage and then home PT should start Monday. I'm fine with that as I'm too sore and swollen and want some of that to go down first. I have no brusing however, which is great!!

Set an alarm to you can keep your meds regular at night. It's important to maintain the levels of meds just pre-op. Playing catch-up every morning is probably not helping your mobility.

I think your 'tail bone pain' is simply post-op pain. Make sure you keep up with the pain meds.

Julie, so sorry for all this you are going through. But in reading your posts, you are making baby steps forward. I agree that you need to keep your pain under control by staying on regular doses even through the night. You say you're in a recliner....are you putting pillows under your leg so that you're elevating your toes above your nose??? You need to do that plus ice to help with the swelling.

Jamie, yes I have a pillow to elevate and using the ice and trying to stay on top of pain meds. Yes it's very much baby steps this time. I also think I have such a fear because of the dislocation and I feel that any wrong move it may happen again. Thankfully it was at the hospital in recovery compared to being at home. It has made this recovery oh so much more difficult.

Whilst your anxiety is perfectly understandable, Julie, do please remember that your hip dislocated while you were unconscious and that with the spinal the muscles were actually paralysed. It fell apart because somebody wasn't doing their job properly when they moved you off the operating table. Every member of staff should know that this is the riskiest moment for hip replacements, when they are moved with a spinal in operation. I would always supervise that manoeuvre myself and make sure the foot was firmly held abducted and rotated, internally or externally as appropriate for the surgical approach, until the patient was safely on the bed with the triangular wedge in position.

Now that you are awake and able to be ambulant, your muscles are working properly, each day gaining strength and tone. So the risk of a repeat performance is decreasing with every day that passes.

I agree with your thoughts about what happened. I'm sure they were being to fast with what they were doing and didn't move me properly. I only remember waking in recovery and then realizing that tears were just streaming down me and everyone was around and trying to explain what happened. Before I knew it, they put me back out.

I'm have so much difficulty with this. I can't lift the leg at all and walking with the walker is a major project. I still feel that in the groin area it just feels weird and when I stand in front of mirror my right compared to left side just looks so strange.

The hardest part is when I get to the bended seated position. It takes a bit for me to sit on the raised toilet because it doesn't seem like me thigh wants to make the movement.

My back is now all broken out from heat rash as I can't move to any other position in bed or even just move myself a little bit over and I feel like I sweat so much throughout the night and my whole backside is just wet.

I just can't get a break !! There have been many tears. :cry4:

Home PT is supposed to come out today for an evaluation. Hopefully they can see if everything is right. I'm in recliner right now, ice on thigh and knee area, pain pills taken and pillow under feet to raise them.

Julie, it hurts me to think what you are going through. So sorry. Have you tried to use a big pillow along your side a little under your bad hip? With help of course. That might take some pressure off your back and heat rash? Hope it will get a little better any day now.

Thanks Renate, I sure do hope it starts easing up soon too. I know that it will just happen one of these days and I'll wake and have movement and the real road to recovery will start. I just hope that day comes soon. Thanks for your support!! :console:

Try to remember you are not even a week out from surgery and that you did not have a straightforward surgical experience - for anyone to b beyond your point of recovery and not having a dislocation on top of it would b a lot!!! I'm sure its beyond difficult but I'm just trying to put a little perspective :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Just take one day at a time - I know how they crawl by - I'm going crazy myself - but I guess its really our only choice right now...:rolleyespink:

It will get better and I pray for you that its sooner rather than later :doggieshmooze:

xoxoxo,
Linda
