Don't worry about the blood, I had 5 or 6 actually after I had the revision two weeks later. And I aslo had a cocktail of Dialudid and Methadone. They had tried the Oxycontin/Oxycodone combo on me with no luck.

If what ever you are on is working, stick with it...if not please let them know ASAP! No reason to be a martyr here! Thay WILL find th right drugs for you.

Hang in there...sounds like you are doing fine now!

Oh Julie, what a start. I am so sorry things have been tough so far, but hopefully things will go smoothly from now.

Thinking of you
J x

Thanks Justine and Janet!!

My OS just came by and said he'll have them get me up today, but keep catheder for another say so I don't have to get all the time & go with the transfusion,

I sure hope it's smooth sailing now, since I had enough of the issues. The Dilaudid seems to help, I just want to get up and cleaned up. Nothing like all that orange stuff coated all down my leg,

*catheter* :wink1:

I rate the IV paracetamol (acetaminophen/Tylenol) very highly. It often worked where 2-3 shots of morphine didn't.
On my watch the anaesthetists got through loads of it! :th_heehee:

Hi Julie, hope you'll feel a little better now after the transfusion and proper pain meds. It's a bummer that happened, but hopefully the pieces are all in the right places now and you can start healing. Take it easy.

Yes it is a bummer Renate. They got me cleaned up which felt good and up and into a chair. :yay: not a easy task by any means. Oh how easy the other hip was.

Jo, the catheter still in place and cleaned. Last thing I want is a UTI. :hairpulling:

Julie,
Hope your day has gotten better. I know it's disappointing and discouraging when things go differently than expected or hoped for. But you are strong - as Linda said, take one day at a time. You are an encourager and we all want to encourage you, too!

One day at time is all I can do. Hopefully after this am blood draw I won't need anymore. Just had awful acid reflux. Sure wish I could move in bed. I'm so stiff and the hip is a lead weight.

Sure hope today gets better otherwise I have no clue how I will do at home tomorrow. I feel like a train ran over me. I guess part is from OS manipulating it back into place.

Early days Julie! I remember thinking the same thing the day before I was discharged.

It will get better every day. Your body has been through major trauma. Now all you need is rest.

Hope today is better!

They asked if I was going to a rehab tomorrow or home. I told them home. I guess they want to make sure everyone's ok with it. My OS is very aggressive & thinks I should be up & walking decent distance. Even all the nurses think it unrealistic and most were amazed that I got just a few feet out into the hallway yesterday.

I know I'm a little nervous right now wih it all & fear of dislocation again. I know the docs in the US seem to be very aggressive, but I think I'm going to take it nice and slow this time.

I will make sure he gives me a decent pain med upon discharge. Right now it's been the Dilaudid, today starts oral Tylenol and they gave me Valium.

Today I can get real clothes on too and hopefully have a BM.

Oh Julie, decent distance, eh? What a jerk. After everything you've been through some steps to the bathroom sound great to me. My hospital and rehab center thought I did great shuffling to the loo and sleeping after. Add to that the exercises and a trip to the shower, I call it progress in my humble opinion. They also encourage early mobility, but in moderation. You take care and do what you are comfortable with and then sleep.

My PT lady today said something. She said he's a great surgeon but really can go overboard. I did walk a bit more today & my PT said she thought I did great.

Glad to hear you got up and about - I wouldn't worry too much about what your Dr. says about being to be able to walk so far - that seems a little extreme - especially if a nurse has commented on it, he probably is a little extreme

Just take it day-by-day - I'm on day 15 and I still feel like I've been run over by a truck some days...

Please let us know how its going - thinking of you :friends:

xoxo,
Linda.

Boy....those are the surgeons that you really wish would have a joint replacement themselves....they'd most certainly change their tune!!!

Julie,
so sorry to hear about your dislocation & attitude of OS. Just go at your own pace & listen to your body, you've been there before & know what's required. Onwards & upwards from now on! :thumb:

I agree with you Jamie - having a THR would certainly change the surgeons attitudes, those who aren't nice anyway! :wink1:
Mine was lovely so I wish him perfect joints for the rest of his life!

I'm just miserable! I can't pee now, haven't had BM, but I know those meds will kick in. Nurse will wake me at midnight and do a bladder scan.

My leg and knee are huge and it is so hard to get out of bed & use walker. Of course all the nurses said I'm bad off like this because of the dislocation. They all have said they have never heard about this happening and ? Why it did. Dont you think I wonder!

At least when I get home I will do proper icing & sleep in recliner to make it easier to get up & down. I don't see myself making improvement until swelling subsides some. This is just awful compared to first one. :sigh:

Julie

you really are having a difficult time but try to stay focused. It will get better.

The attitude of your surgeon suggesting you should be walking further sound pretty arrogant to me - and he is the one ultimately responsible for your proceedure and you wake up with a dislocation!

Best wishes for a speedy improvement. I am sure it will get better when you get home

hang in there honey - it will get better soon!!!

xoxoxo,
Linda

Julie, I have read through your posts and really feel for you having had both hips done in a short space of time too. Everyone's experiences are so different and so all I can say is try to stay positive and remember that unless your surgeon, PT, nursing staff etc have been through a double replacement, then they cannot empathise with your situation, only sympathise - two very different emotions indeed! They are probably secretly in awe of you and hoping they never have to go through the same!
