Dogchick: good luck to you! What kind of dogs do you have? We have three: brittany, pbgv & longhaired whippet (now known as windsprite)
@InkedMarie I have a Chocolate Lab/Catahoula mix. She looks like a chocolate lab with a little bit of white on her. I posted a couple of pictures of her in my Pre-Op thread if you want to have a look. Ok, help me out, what is a PBGV? Lol. Before my lab, we had a Boxer, and before her we had a Black lab/Sharpei mix.

Yes and July can't get here fast enough.

I have been having hip pain on and off since I was 23. Doctor kept telling me there was nothing wrong. Long story and 1 well overdue doctor change later diagnosis is bi-lateral congenital hip dysplasia turned to end stage bone on bone osteoarthritis in both hips. I have pretty limited mobility. I'm working from home and walking with crutches to get from the bed to the bathroom & desk. I have surgery scheduled for July 10 for anterior (hopefully) bilateral total hip replacement.

I was reading your thread the other day and I think you've covered most of the pre-op scenarios I am also dealing with. I too did all the research and made check lists. Thanks for making this super easy for me!
I'm sorry for the loss of your kitty but glad you still have the pup to help with morale.

Are you having any mobility issues?
@Gundo sorry, I didn’t see this until now. I’m assuming this post was for me, glad to be helpful. Thank you for your comment about my kitty. I miss her, but finding life a bit easier now. I do have problems with standing at any length of time. Too much walking causes pain and stiffness as well. I have constant pain that never goes away, but some days are worse than others. I try to stay away from stairs if at all possible because I’m not stable so I get clumsy. I am not using any assistive devices for walking, but my OS thinks I should use a cane especially for work. I’m too stubborn, I guess, I have a big rolling bag to transport all my “stuff” from class to class, so it would be difficult to use a cane as well. Just biding my time until I finally have surgery. Have you started your own Pre-Op thread yet?

I’m scheduled for my Left on July 23 and my Right on August 22. I keep going back and forth on if I actually need it done. I’m only 41 (as of yesterday) and I don’t have pain ALL the time. However a simple hike up a hill, trying to dance with my husband or any stairs has me clamoring for an ice pack so am figuring after having pain off and on for 20 years means I should just go ahead. I’m most concerned about recovery as I’m an RN and need to be able to move to do my job.

Welcome to the forums @LuvDisney. This is such a supportive and friendly group of people, You will get all your questions answered, and when you are feeling uncertain, you will be supported. Be sure to start your own pre-op thread as mentioned in the above post, you will get a lot more people to see your posts. Someone will come along and post a very helpful post with articles/posts that are very helpful.

By the way, I was born and raised in California. I was born in Anaheim and lived there until I was 12, then we moved to Riverside. My family still lives there, so we visit every couple of years. We plan to make another trip next summer. :yes!: Disneyland always feels like home to me, and I am a big Disney fan.

Lord willing, creeks don't rise and insurance approves, I'll be having THR on my right hip July 17! So glad I found this board!

My day of reckoning is July 11th.
47 this month
Possible AVN
I want to be able to ride horses and ATV's again and enjoy life as it is meant to be. Will probably have bith hips done within a year. Starting with my right hip.
After 5 years of torturous pain and suffering, 4 different doctors, no restful sleep in 5 years, 4 different types of mattresses, I get a chance at a new life.
Was scheduled just 2 weeks ago and it is a lot to process in this short period of time. Advice on what to expect and how to prepare and what to have at home for recovery are very welcome and appreciated.

@Bchbum4evr and @Hipgal0719 :welome: to the Sparklers! You will find so much information here! Be sure to create your own thread here on the pre-op side so you can get your own pre-op articles in your own thread.

Tic tic, very little time
Left on the clock.

Wednesday I have to start the surgical scrub and have no idea how to do it or which areas I do and leave. A big cry for help.
@Jaycey @Josephine

I was told the same thing that @Aditi mentioned. They said really concentrate on where the incision will be, but Hibiclens is very drying and tough on sensitive skin like the face, genitals, etc. @Apricot

Spoke to the pharmacy as no-one in pre-op. Told to use it on face and all body like a body wash. Ho hum.

I would NOT use it on your face! They actually told us in Joint Academy (as they call it here) that it is pretty caustic and not good for sensitive areas like the face and genitals, specifically. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with dogchick. I started using Hibiclens this week in preparation for my July 2nd surgery. Although I avoided sensitive areas like face, ears, neck and genitals, the skin on my limbs and torso broke out in a rash. Now only washing the hip/thigh of the leg scheduled for surgery per physician. Any breach of skin integrity - rash, bumps - call your surgeon's office. This is super-strength, powerful stuff.
