My big day will be July 18th, right hip replacement. Glad I ran across this forum, having no one with first-hand experience to talk to. This will be the first real surgical procedure of my life (I don't count wisdom teeth removal) and I find the whole thing mighty unnerving; I am practically quaking in my sensible, thick-soled, slip-on Mrs Grundy shoes. Well, it's been a long time coming. I can hardly wait to pass so far through and out the Other Side so that I can get back on the dance floor, swing dancing again. Any other dancers currently aboard?

Not a dancer as yet but quite keen to take it up as an exercise post op... I wonder if Salsa will be possible.. I can identify with nervousness pre-op. I had my appendix and tonsils taken out 42 years ago and have avoided hospital ever since.. Best of luck!

That is an odd coincidence because I had my wisdom teeth out just about 42 years ago, and under a general anesthetic, and that has been it for any medical procedures for me, so we are on a similar timeline. My surgery date is July 18th, next Wednesday. And I too was just on holiday (in the UK) and took up swimming for fitness. I'm still trying to keep walking, and even enjoying a pre-op version of dancing (no partner dancing!) moving to the beat on the dance floor to keep my muscles up and the blood flowing. Post-op Salsa sounds good!

It's funny, but I have no worries about pain, rehab, etc---that is, I know it's all on the horizon, but I'm not 'worrying' about it or dwelling on it. My worry-worm is the surgery itself ...the conscious/unconscious thing, as I had a dear friend go through a surgery (not hip) fully conscious, but paralyzed and unable to communicate.

my left THR is this tuesday 17th july. very nervous lol

Wishing you well. I'm also scheduled for July 18th!

Wow Quiltmom, so we will kind of be going through this 'together' (let's imagine so anyway. ) And dazzie87 too, just a day ahead of us. I too am very nervous, really .... never has a date, the date of surgery, ever LOOMED so much; I dislike things that loom. It's quite unnerving. We will all see each other on the other side. Can hardly wait to get there.

Quiltmom and Dazzie, what are you doing to distract and entertain yourselves in the meantime? I'm set up with all the equipment and aids recommended... still need a pair of slippers, maybe a dressing gown (?). ... frozen dinners...

@dazzie87 - my right hip is tomorrow too. We can get through this together, as well as @dlp

I had a relaxing weekend. Today hubby is sanitizing the master bedroom and bath. Won't let me near it. I'm to rest today and do nothing that might bruise or scratch my hip! Lol. They'd cancel surgery if I did.

This forum has made me very comfortable with expectations on the other side of surgery.

We will get through this together!

R sided THR July 16 2018 Kingston, ON Canada. 46 y.o. female and received a ceramic implant.
Had my replacement and on day 3. Pain is still manageable gets bad just a few times a day now. Pain got ahead of me last night and again today. That takes so long to settle down. Ice has been my friend. Still struggling with using the walker, I can stand without holding on to walker while brushing teeth, washing face etc but still need it to walk. I don't feel like I should be at where I feel I need to be (makes sense). Just wanted some advice...

1. When did you find you started with a cane?
2. When did u started walking more then to the washroom or to the deck and back
3. Haven't pooped. Took 1 stool softener and hasn't worked yet. Don't want to have to rush to toilet since having mobility issues!
4. Appetite has been ok. Just no appetite for dinner anyone else finding that?

Thanks for all responses.

Shannon from Ontario Canada
