20 long years...finally my turn!!

Hi Jen,
I know the apprehension well! Staying busy til the day was key for me.

I LOVE to read. I was reading about a book every two days by 3rd day postop-- then one night I realized I had repurchased and gotten 2 chapters into a book I had read the week before! I started checking my nook library before making anymore online purchases . I'm not so brain foggy now (day 20), but at first I had a whole "new" library.

I'll be thinking of you -- I have followed the BS way for recovery - never had much pain (I took my meds around the clock, staying ahead of the pain) for the first week. I gave my in home PT a copy of the BS way and told her that is what I would be doing. It worked ! I'm at 117 flexion and 0 extension now and feel like my recovery has progressed so well by following the advice of the great people here!

Well, I passed the last hurdle today and I got medical clearance for surgery on Wednesday! I'm just going to lay low and get everything ready to take to hospital and just try to relax! Thank you all for your kind words and support!

Jen

@ACDCJen you got this...TKA surgery is rough for 2-3 weeks then things improve real quick afterwards.

Hope you don' t have to drink much of that Geneseo beer:rotfl:. Been up there for a wedding about 25 years ago. Back to Rochester for a visit in 2003 with a couple of days at Bristol Mountain. Beautiful countryside up through there with gorgeous farms, I remember Batavia from one of our drives to Niagara.

Best wishes for you on Wednesday.

@Bikesouth
Genny Cream Ale is good!!! Not much of a beer drinker, but it IS good. :)

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm just happy/petrified it's almost time!

Hi Jen,
Will be thinking of you all the way...in fact I thought of you yesterday as I passed through East Bethany on my way to the Alexander Steam show! Glad to hear you had a good mini vacation. Also glad you got clearance for your surgery. You go before me since I don't go till October..so I will be pulling for you and hoping for a good recovery.
As for where I am in Ny, I lived in Scottsville, by for 27 years, but now live in the southern tier near Corning, Ny. Keep us posted on your progress.
Blessings,
Lene'

Hi @lene'

I work in Brighton near Rochester. I graduated from Attica, so I definitely know where Alexander is! What a small world! I love the Southern Tier, especially Allegheny State Park and the Watkins Glen area. I've been exploring more of the state since moving back last year. Lots of good fishing and kayaking spots!

Just got a call and I need to be at the hospital tomorrow at 10am. But, they told us in the joint camp class to be there 2 hours early. So, I'm going in at 8am and will just wait it out, on the off chance that I can go in earlier. I'd rather do that anyway. So, it's just gotten very real. I'm petrified and I feel close to tears at any moment. I just keep telling myself that I have been through many surgeries and this one is just another one. I'm usually much better once the time is here and I can just concentrate on getting better. I'm still also worried about the anesthesia and whether it will work as well as it did the last time. I hope it does because that would make it so much better. It's different this time though because I know it's major-major surgery. Plus, I've always identified myself as that person with the bad knees. Now, this will only be 1/2 true and it will be weird to think of myself as not so damaged. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but that's kind of how I'm feeling.

I'm going to spend the afternoon rereading my materials from the hospital and surgeon and making sure my bag is packed. I have to do one shower tonight with the dyna-hex and the two wipes, and then one last shower tomorrow. Have my clean sheets and pjs ready to go too. Already had my protein shake because I know I won't be able to do it later. I guess that's all I have left to do!

Hopefully, I'll be alert enough to check in tomorrow after the surgery once I'm on the other side, but we'll just have to see.

Thank you so much for all the support and friendship you have shown me so far! It's meant a lot, especially from people who know what it's like! See you on the flip side....

Jen

Stay Strong Jen, maybe when were are both better a year from now we can hike or kayak together!!
I will be thinking good thoughts for you too!!:thumb:

Best wishes, Jen. We'll be looking out for you on the recovery side.

Yahoo!! I am on the other side! I feel great! Obviously there is some pain, but definitely tolerable. My os took out the screws from my TTT, so I have those. He said that it was a rough surgery and my knee was in"surprisingly bad" shape for a 39 year old. They attempted a spinal, but ended up doing general anesthesia because they said my vertebra were doing their job really well and not letting them in!!

Doing my ankle pumps, eating some dinner, and staying on top of my pain. Already so glad I did this. :)
Jen

Congrats! If you haven't done so already you might want to start your own recovery thread.

I pooped!!!! Now I get to go home! I know all of you here get how big of a deal this is!

Yippee!!!!

Jen

Congratulations !!! Woot for the poop. You'll feel so much better at home. :)

I am again pre-op for my right knee!! I feel so much more prepared and relieved about this one. The only apprehension I have is making sure my left knee is doing well enough to handle the extra work! I have quite a bit of a wait, so I'm sure it will be ready to go! I'm so happy to be able to get both of my knees taken care of this year so I can enjoy my life with new knees (for the first time ever!)

Hello!
I am five days away from my RTKR. My LTKR is 10 weeks old today. For anyone who has not had the surgery yet, or who are anxious and nervous...it's really ok. It is a major surgery with a long recovery, but I feel so much better already, and will be even more after next week.

I just wanted to encourage anyone who is on the fence and unsure whether it is worth it. For me, it totally was.

Keep on keepin' on!
Jen

Just found out that they want me at the hospital at 10:30am. That's a good time, not too early, not too late! :)
