Been reading up on your thread, sounds amazing. I was going to go with your OS, but I couldn't wait the 5 more months for a surgical date. Regardless, I'm glad that you are on the mend and feeling better. Love the photo's of the cats, they really seem to be a handful!

Get well

Rick

Sorry Jo,

MA here in the US is short for M a s s a c h u s e t t s...

and after you type M a s s a c h u s e t t s a few times you start to type MA instead of M a s s a c h u s e t t s....

The Postal service prefers the 2 letter abbreviation, we here across the pond use the abbreviations in letters, directions; etc as it is acceptable.

PA, would be Pennsylvania, or "Dad or father" if you live on a farm. :th_heehee:

Any reason why I should not take my Celebrex at nite?

I had been taking it first thing in the AM when I got up....but I happened to take it last nite before bed time and SLEEPING and rolling out of bed in the AM were both much better. Like a LOT better.

Thoughts?

I've never had any issue with NSAIDS bothering my stomach...

Z:

My OS prescribed me Celebrex 1 pill every 12 hrs. Since leaving the hosp, I've been taking the Celebrex in the AM, and at bedtime. I also take Tylenol every 4 hrs as needed for pain, and Vicodin f the pain is greater than a 6/10.

Check the milligrams on the pill and follow the dosing instructions, 2 pills a day spaced over 12 hrs shouldnt have an effect on you, other than aiding in your recovery.

Hope this helps.

Hi Folks,

Long day...had my first follow up with my surgeon.

He showed me in the X-rays how my pelvis is still tilted TOWARD my new hip (cuz it was shorter before) and said we need to give that a chance to adjust. He did encourage me when doing the Hula stretch to ONLY STRETCH TOWARD THE SHORT SIDE...kinda makes sense.

Gave me the green lite to use the rowing machine...he really likes stationary bikes for rehabbing tho.

Said I'm doing great ... but don't go doing TOO MUCH and get things irritated. Reminded me that I am still healing from major surgery so...no limitations other than "don't be stupid".

Thanks for the post Rick...My OS has his patients on Coumadin for 6 weeks post surgery (don't know how rare that is) So I just take the one Celebrex, and it seems like taking it at bed time is more effective for me.

It was a lonnnng day. 1.5 hour drive each way...ended up being close to 7 hour total. I came home and crashed...on the couch...not in the car.

I see outpatient PT on Thurs.

Nite....

Z

Z....has your doctor approved the Celebrex while you're on Coumadin? You should talk about that if you haven't.

Also...Celebrex comes in several strengths. The normal dosage is 200mg in 24 hours. That can be one 200mg capsule each day or 1 100mg. capsule every 12 hours. You always want to take the least amount needed to get the job done.

There shouldn't be any problem taking Celebrex at night. I would take it at least an hour before you lie down and take it with a cracker or something else to eat.

Hi there Z, just catching up.. Your OS appointment went very well, you must feel great about that.. Wow! A 7 hour day.. No wonder you just want to crash now.

I think the key piece of information to take with you is 'slow and steady wins the race'... You are going to have that hardware for a loooooooooong time :) need to look after it :)

What a great report!! Your OS sounds a little like Howard Stern -- "Don't be stupid, you moron." that little anecdote that he used to play from his father...

So, share this hula stretch with us. I have the pelvic tilt too....

Great news on the rowing machine - have fun!! :thumb:

Take care,
Cardie

Jamie and Cardie,

It's 200 Mg and it's a part of his protocol..and I also get my blood tested twice a week. I know most of us can only see the abstract on this: broken link removed: https://www.springerlink.com/content/9316776833046ux5/

I do know most folks can see this one...The story about this protocol starts on page 6. broken link removed: https://www.nebh.org/Documents/Content/NEBHAR2010.pdf It is clear that every surgeon is different...I get that. But everyone that I have talked to who has gotten a hip this way only raves about it. Now we'll have to wait a few weeks :wink1: to see if these hips can really last me 20 years!!

The Hula - DON'T think of trying this if it might conflict with your doctor's orders. I had no restrictions so I have been doing this since Day1. My PT has it done 2 ways, lying on your back and sitting. The sitting is easier to describe... preferably sitting on a hard surface so there is some slide, extend each knee out, then the other. Kind of a rocking movement. I was doing BOTH knees to increase flexibility....he says just push out the shorter leg to increase the stretch I have on that side.

Similarly lying on your back, reach down with your heel (elongate yourself on that side). I've been doing both. The idea is to help train my pelvis to come back to level. But as I just learned...if one side is longer...just extend THAT SIDE!

Yeah...good day. We'll see what PT says on Thursday! :thumb:

Oh, one other thing at my meeting with the surgeon yesterday. Normally he does another follow-up at 3 months (which does include another x-ray). He was comfortable enough with how I'm doing that he was fine skipping that and seeing me at one year...

WELLL...I love information...the more the better. He actually saw me yesterday at almost 4 weeks instead of his normal 6 weeks due to some travel he has upcoming. So, I called back and will keep the check at 3 months. This hip is important enough to me that I can invest another 1/2 day...

There is another med on the market which compares to Coumadin, it is called Xarelto (rivaroxaban), I am taking 10mg/day along with my Celebrex 200mg x2 daily. and Tylenol as needed and Vicodin for pain over 6 on the 0-10 scale. (I've only had 4 Vicoden's since being discharged last Thursday)

What is nice about the Xarelto is that there are no lab requirements such as blood work or the need for a PT/INR test. I was prescribed this from the OS as a maintenance med for 30 days. Once the Xarelto is complete, I'm finished with that.

Glad to hear your checkup went well Z and good call on keeping the 3 month checkup. Even though you're doing well it will still be nice to see how things look once the hip has settled a bit more. You can also see if the pelvic tilt is any better.

Rick, my doc also put me on Xarelto. I was happy about that as it seemed to be the simplest in terms of use (no shots, no regular bloodwork).

Hi Z,

Nice post dr visit...way to go congratulations!

I had to take the Coumadin I think it was almost 5 weeks ewwwwwwww! I'm using that as my reason for being a total porky hehehehehe!

I love the new technology and enjoyed reading both links and think yourself, along with Kevin and Haldox have had the experience of these new fast healthier ways of having your hips replaced, plus Rick....probably more too! Regardless of the speed I still feel personally it comes down to the surgeons skill, experience and confidence we all hope he opens us up, and gets that shiny new hip in straight, without breaking our bones, messing with our muscles and nerves, then the other factor has to be us as patients, our bone structure, ability to heal. Ohhhh plus their knowledge of these hips, the history and I'm sure even my own dr has had to do revisions because of a faulty hip.

What blew me away was when my OS had said surgery time was about 45 minutes, I did take a little longer because of some earlier scar tissue, about an hour and half. My teeth cleanings take longer...it's all clever stuff!

I've just realized its official I think I like numbing drugs roflamoooooooo! When I get my teeth cleaned they have to numb me completely and give me gas hahahahah!

Wishing lots of continueed success and good healing!

xxooxx

Ahhhh.....Z......I had forgotten you were on that program. Thanks for reminding me. Of course you are doing exactly what the doctor is ordering and that's just right.

Yesterday was one of my less fun...I think the long day in Boston on Monday sapped me pretty good. I kinda felt like I had the flu...Slow, Achy...

But after a good nite's sleep I feel much better. I look at it as a good "no harm done" reminder that I still have weeks and months to go before this is completely behind me, and discretion is still a wise ingredient.

But like I said....no harm... :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Z - recovery is all about testing the boundries and adjusting accordingly. We all did it! Each time you "test" your limits thing become easier. There is absolutely no harm in trying something new (give any restrictions) but the key is being able to admit you did a bit too much and allow for recovery.

Well done for realizing your limits. They are only temporary. Rest and try again.
