Re: Opiod Sensitivity

Thanks for your input, Merry. I'm having the RTKR on August 13th.
have learned so much and gotten support from this forum.
Next time will be better:loll:

Re: Opiod Sensitivity

I too have had problems with opiods, i cannot take codeine for much the same reasons as you and I actually fainted twice whilst on them. However Tamadol has been my saving grace along with diclofenac and tens machine placed over the worst area has also helped me to cope with the physio, also icing elevating and rest. Good luck to you

Opiod Senssitivity, i see you havn't posted for a while. Are you ok. Is your pain under control? We would sure like to hear from you to see how you are doing. take care and stay safe.:doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Hi to All,
Today marks week 10 after LTKR..... I went to my Yin Yoga class ( very gentle/lots of stretching..)
It went really well ! I took 2 Alleve tabs w/ breakfast...
I'm getting less grumpy with myself and realize that I am making progress.

Pain control has been good with Alleve in the a.m and Ibuprofen or aspirin before bed.

I hope all of you are healing well, also.:yes 4:

Thanks for asking about me, Tashia.....

Great report!!! Keep up the wonderful recovery.

Way to go Annalou.

Glad you've been able to cover your pain so simply . . . and find some nice gentle yoga.

Today marks three weeks since my second TKR (the right knee, this time)
I'm doing so much better than I did with TKR one at the end of January. This is in part to refusing narcotics for pain meds. I'm taking Ultram and Alleve most of the time, with a few Tylenols added infrequently.
My left TKR is strong, basically pain free and is helping me manuever around with TKR 2.
I hope all of us on this side are hanging in and doing well with recoveries. Take Care All...:)

So narcotics give you a problem? Happens to many. Glad you worked out a solution. Well it helps that you had a "trail run" in January and know what to expect. How is this one different from the other? Speedy healing!

Jolly good, Annlou. Glad you've worked out your own salvation.

btw, I enlarged your text a bit - at size 2 it was really far TOO small! 4 is much more readable!

Hi fellow "Smarties",
Here I was so happy with my brain fog free brain, lots of energy, appetite , happy....etc

Well, I'm in the throes of withdrawal and it's rough sledding: cold chills. hot flashes, stomach cramps, loose stools, no appetite, restless legs and can't sleep!

Who knew that "non addictive Tramadol" could turn out to be addictive?
I'm 48 hrs, into it and am slowly feeling better...hope it ends tomorrow.
Hang In There !

Depending on your makeup, almost anything can be habit forming.

You should consider re-dosing and tapering off over a week or two. It's a little hard on the body to do this. Even if you were to take half of what you were taking, that'll take the edge off, and in a few days cut your dose in half again. But what would be ideal is to re-dose at your original dose, and reduce that every 3-5 days by 25% or so.

When did you have surgery? Your body may be speaking to you more about needing meds than addiction.

Sorry, the print in your post was small and missed the part at first about your feeling better. That's good. The worst is over. But quite a shock, eh?

I can honestly say ihaf no problems with tramadol. I did cut down gradually but not for withdrawal reasons , I just needed it less and less. I took it for a good 3 months though!

Who told you it was non-addictive? Tramadol is as habit forming as any other narcotic.

But I agree with Sonja - your reactions might well be more about you still having pain issues.

btw, would you be a dear and put your surgery date in your signature like the rest of us do?
You can find the instructions here How to create a signature
That also applies to anyone else who is reading this.
Thank you.

You had your surgery on August 13th and thought you might be addicted to Tradadol? It sounds like your body is protesting. Are you still having tightness in the knee? Swelling? Are you back to doing everything you want to do without pain? In most cases, the body will start "forgetting" to take the pain meds when the knee is ready. After 4 knee surgeries it has happened every time. I occasionally do something I shouldn't  and end up taking a pain pill to sleep. Other than that I don't take any. But I didn't make a date and go cold turkey! My body would have rebelled. The knee knows!

Thanks for your input...I couldn't take the creepy crawly feelings and did go cold turkey. It took 3 days, but today , day 4 I feel weak and tired but know I'm over the WD... On to better days! Hope you are feeling better too.:puppysmooze:

Well, good luck to you. Some people can get by with NSAIDs and maybe that would help you. Or maybe you have graduated to nothing. Whatever the case, it is your knee and I'm sure you know when to take something if it gets painful!

My best to you and keep up the great recovery!
