Hi Fellow Smarties,

I've had both TKR s within 6 months and am currently having RLS and PLMD. It's quickly reducing sleep and quality of...

Does anybody have suggestions, remedies etc??
Thanks

Hi RestAssured,
Thanks for your reply. Have you had RLS with any of your surgeries? I didn't have it with the left TKR but am having it big time with the right TKR.... any suggestions?

If you are speaking of restless leg syndrome, it is a fact of life for me. I take 1.5 mg of knonopin at night and it settles it right down. I was having a lot of muscle spasms that bacoflen no longer took care of so they switched me to flexeril. It also works great.

What's RLS and PLMD? We are not all party to these American acronyms! (Okay, I know RLS but a lot of other people might not!) There is a thread on that Restless legs following knee replacement surgery

Annalou, it's not necessary to use the "Reply" icon in someone's post to reply, specially when that post is going to be the one right before yours. And specially if you then just post it on its own making what we call a 'dead' post!
Just scoot on down to the bottom of the page and start writing in the window, okay?

Jo,

Restless leg syndrome for everyone is known "jumpy legs"! If I don't take my meds at night, I am all over the bed because myl legs are constantly twitching all the way to actually kicking! My hubby will wake me up if I have forgotten it, because he is usually kicked quite a bit! I toss and turn all night and my skin feels like needles are pricking it. Some people say it feels like ants are crawling on them. Weird sensations to say the least!

PLMD is periodic limb movement disorder. It happens when you are sleeping and your legs jerk involuntarily. It may cause brief moments of waking which you are not aware, causing extreme daytime sleepiness.

Hi Annalou! How have you been, and were you ever able to find relief for your RLS? I'm currently struggling with this every night as I back off pain meds, so I'm interested in hearing what works for folks.

RestAssured, I love flexeril...take it for hamstring spasms. Did you mean Klonopin? How does that work for RLS? The creepy restless legs stops if I take a narcotic pain med, but I'm wanting to wean off...looking for a good substitute.

I am on Klonopin and flexril. I have RLS, but it was discovered in 1997 when they did a sleep study to tell me I also had sleep apnea. I already knew that though, I had been snoring since I was about 5. When I gained all the weight it didn't help, but now my pressure is half of what it used to be. I will never be able to go without a cpap or Klonopin because of central apnea and RLS. The flexeril replaced bacoflen when it quit working. I have MS and it helps with my muscle spasms that creep up on me. :happydance:

I am not taking any narcotics and the combo of those two are wonderful! Klonopin will make you sleepy though, so I take .5 in the morning, and 1.5 mg at night. Flexeril is 5mg , 3 times a day.
