THR What were your pre-op symptoms?

Be sure and ask the surgeon. Therapists and nurses often pass on old information just out of habit.
I sure do agree with this train of thought. Was going to say the very same thing.

I am so excited for you and can't wait for your recovery updates/

The therapist told me they definitely don‘t like to use crutches, so there won’t be any of those. I’m calling the surgeon‘s office on Monday to ask about it.

Somehow I don’t see me hopping around with my Devil Dog of a puppy. The more I think about it, the more I believe the therapist made a mistake.

@Jamie Do clarify all this with your surgeon. Yikes no crutches with 50% weight bearing? That would be so hard on your full weight bearing knee and hip plus making it, IMO, very difficult to get any where in your home particularly wit feisty Devil Dog in the picture. The picture this therapist is painting just does not sound right to me.

This just doesn't make any sense. Glad you are calling to get clarification.

You know crutches is all i used in the first 6 days until I was able to drop down to one elbow crutch. I found I had a more freedom and ability to downsize to one aid if needed and still be supported with using crutches(elbow crutches). I would honestly go with what YOU are more comfortable with. The key as you know is to not overdo it. For myself(and 2 other people I know), crutches were the perfect tool to use Especially because walkers did not always fit some of the areas of the house. Narrow section to and from the bathroom were easier with crutches than a walker, and by the end of day 1 I realized that crutches were just easier to handle and maneuvers.

I see people zipping around on crutches all the time, but they have always been difficult for me to use. I am much more comfortable with the stability of a walker until I can move to a cane. But more power to you guys who use crutches effortlessly.

Today I received a “loud and clear” message that I need my hip replaced. I‘ve been trying to finish some landscaping work in the back yard and was moving pots and furniture around. I sat down to rest for a minute on the edge of a low table. As I was sitting there, my exuberant American Eskimo young dog made a full force run and jump on my right thigh from the side. Oh my…..the impact made my unstable hip move in ways it didn’t want to go. It hurt like crazy and it was very obvious that my hip was not what it should be. It actually felt like the joint moved sideways!

I’m really looking forward to having it fixed.

Ouch! Please baby that bad hip. How does it feel now? Do you have a cane or crutch to use in these last days before surgery?

The hip is fine now. I don’t really need a cane or crutches. The incident just proved again to me that something is really wrong in the joint. I’d like to just take things easy between now and surgery day, but being by myself I have lots to still do to be ready for recovery and 6 weeks of not being able to do things and drive. I made good progress on my list yesterday. Fortunately the owie was temporary. I got a lot of rest last night and feel pretty good today. I’m looking forward to talking with my surgeon once he gets a look at my hip.

The Big Day is almost here. I'm frantically trying to get everything done I wanted to do before surgery and it's a challenge. Whatever doesn't get checked off the list will just have to wait. New hip, here I come!

Best wishes!!

You are going to do beautifully....
and get that hip in ship-shape so you can be happy and healthy.
We've got you:friends:

Thinking of you, Jamie and hoping you're resting comfortably right now.
Hugs and best wishes!

@Jamie Thinking of you and wishing yu all the best with your new hip :ice:

Blessings for a smooth surgery and a good recovery. We'll hold down the fort and look forward to your update from the healing side when you're feeling up to it.

I didn't get everything done, but at least the house looks much better inside and I'm rid of 13 bags of clothes that went off to donations. Getting rid of the clothes enabled me to uncover the chair I want to use at the dining room table to sit when I'm up.

I'm heading off to bed now for a few hours of sleep.

You are in our thoughts @Jamie ! With you in spirit. Not sure if we will all fit into the operating room. :heehee:

Thinking of you, Jamie, and hoping all went well. I'm watching for you on the other side to see how you're doing.
