Not happy to report that I don't have a surgery date yet for my other hip. Surgeon MAY have one opening at the end of this month, but so far have heard nothing. In September, surgeon is operating on only three days and I think the spots are all filled. Maybe October.... This waiting is worse than anything....

Sorry to hear that! Very frustrating for you I know. Maybe you can keep calling for a cancellation as people often get frightened and cancel.

@DebraR so sorry to hear about the wait. Only operating three days yikes. Sending good thoughts and hugs your way. I overdid this past weekend and was useless for four days. But I came alive today! Had my last PT and dinner with my grandsons. Had all sorts of endurance, measurements, and strength testing. Was horrible standing on one foot but I can work on that. Useless task.....hmmmmm hugs

Life isn't smooth is it and our hips don't like the rocky path life often takes us. Big hugs to ya

Hi DebraR, have been reading about your journey. It sounds like your operated hip is doing well and that is wonderful! But having the other hip deteriorate with no answer as to when it can be fixed sounds so frustrating.
It will probably be one of those situations where you get a call and have a flurry of activity to prep and get there and poof! It'll all be behind you.
Keep your head up and I am rooting for you.

Thank you to all for your encouraging words. You are all so sweet and I know you understand completely. Will post the second I get news. Until then, to all of you, no matter where you are in your own recovery, i am sending big hugs and positive thoughts.

Wise words from CricketHip, it will happen and until then keep doing those stretches and strengthen quads, well as much as you can. Keep smiling

Still no date for next surgery - I cannot walk for more than 5 minutes without very uncomfortable back and hip pain. Consequently, I have gained 10lbs and on a 5'2" frame that is not good. Hopefully, once the operation is done and I begin moving a lot more, those pounds will disappear. Has anyone had this happen to them? I have tried limiting my calories but it doesn't seem to be working.

@DebraR It's been 6 months since my RTHR and I have put on 39 pounds! Yep, 39 pounds. Discouraging. Once our lives are back to normal I think this will resolve. Best of luck to you and I hope you get a date for surgery soon. So frustrating for you to have to wait.

@DebraR
I know one thing...I don't care if I limit my caloric intake to a daily 1500 calories or less, I still don't lose weight because I sit all day. When I go on vacation, I eat like a pig and never gain a pound because I'm walking quite a bit. Once you get that second hip fixed and your up and running (well, walking at first), I'll bet you'll drop that 10 pounds in no time. Do you want to take my surgery date? I really don't mind giving it up!!! :heehee:

@ Elaine F - thanks for your encouraging words. As any have said here before, the waiting period is just so hard. Hugs.

@Cynthia777- haha! I so wish I could take your surgery date!! You're right, the pounds are bound to come off when I start moving more as I will start burning more calories. Very frustrating right now though, but I guess could be worse (could always be worse!). Just want a date to focus on...

@DebraR sending you a hug. Hope six months from now you will be over and done. I am just over four months and am gaining myself back. It is amazing how small our world gets with pain. I hope you get news soon. Thinking of you...

@sunbunny

Yes, our world gets so small. After my RTHR in March 2015, I started back to work on May 11, but from home. Have been working from home ever since, while waiting for my LTHR. So the house is pretty much my world, except I did go to NH for a week in July. I go out now and then, like to the hair salon, the nail salon, or sometimes a short trip to the grocery store. Not that fun though as back and hip pain kicks in after a few minutes of walking. Glad you are getting back to normal, I know it will happen but just hard when no date to focus on. Hope you continue to improve!!

The best news!!! The surgeon's office called yesterday and gave me my surgery date - October 5th. Now I can focus on that and do all the planning that needs to be done. By Christmas, I will be great. Also happy that maybe I can help my son out a bit as he will be moving out on November 25. We'll be empty nesters. A lot going on, and I am stoked!!!!

Well this is great news! Not that long to wait either. Well done!

Hope you are not planning on any lifting, packing or moving furniture just out of THR!

@Jaycey No lifting or moving stuff. He will be getting all new furniture, appliances, everything. I will help him before my surgery by well-planned (not too much walking) shopping expeditions. I was planning on doing this anyway, but now that I have a date, I will do it sooner rather than later. Believe me, for my right side replacement, I did everything by the book and plan on doing that for the left side as well. No guarantee that this recovery will go the same as the last one, but I will stick to the same formula. Only thing I am going to change is to ask for more sedative as I heard all the sawing and banging last time. The spinal epidural was great also. The sedative kept me calm, and I just happily listened to my music, but this time I'd rather wake up in the recovery room! Was thinking I should now go back to posting on the pre-op side again, but it's only for a month, so not sure...

I had the same experience with my LTHR. Before my RTHR I had a talk with the anaesthetist and told him I wanted to be out the whole time. Worked a trick - I was out and then in recovery.

Feel free to start a new thread in the pre-op side. You have earned it with all this wait time. Newbies can also learn from your experience as well.
