Thanks Jerseychick! That did the trick! I'm so not techy. :giggle: I have to tell you that I did the hovering over my name, got the drop down menu, clicked on signature, but I don't recall anything that said to insert URL. I simply opened my dancers smiley (from my own url) and copied and pasted it in in front of my signature. Gee, I hope they get the other bugs

cleared out before long so we can go back to the subject at hand...knee replacement surgery recovery. And, speaking of which, I am at 4 months and think my flexion is improving, but probably not as much as I thought it would be by this time. Or, am I just being impatient??? I never did find that illusive Patience that everyone speaks of. Is there really such a thing? :umm:

Twinkletoes, it does take a year or more for a full recovery and 4 months is still early. It is very hard to be patient, but you can't rush recovery because you are not in charge, your knee is. :)

Twink, Dr. Maale put me in am immobilizer for three weeks! When I got to PT they asked why. We would take it off and do gentle extension and straightening then exercises with it on. When I was at home it was an ornament in the house. Yesterday he discontinued it, and now it can bean ornament full time!

Will you decorate it seasonally? Perhaps flags for the 4th of July. :heehee:

Sonja ~ Is an immobilizer similar to the Dynasplint?
broken link removed: https://www.dynasplint.com/uploads/pages/34_original.jpg You said that you wore it for three weeks...do you mean while sleeping, or what? I'm hoping that when I see the surgeon on July 3rd, he'll tell me that I can finally wrap it up and send it back to Dynasplint!

Why do you think the people out there think that having TKR surgery, one should be all better in six weeks??? If you don't know the answer to that, perhaps someone reading this will...

Twink, I think lack of knowledge about TKR is the primary reason for this. This would be just about right for most surgeries that people are familiar with. And then, most of us TKRers look good on the outside at 6 weeks and appear to be able to get around pretty good to the untrained eye. They can't see the aches and stiffness, the lack of stamina, sleep problems or the lack of extension or flexion ( unless of course we're limping). And even good friends and family can only stay engaged and sympathetic for just so long. They get tired of our grumbles without realizing how tired we are of it, too. So we either have to try and educate them or just ignore the unkind comments as best we can. Take care, keep us posted, we care.

Hi Twink, I'm just getting around to checking up on other people after my own surgery (19 days). How is the Dyna Splint going? I had a hand injury a few years back, here in the US, and then went back to Germany where I was living at the time. Continuity of medical care was always a problem moving around so much. Anyway, my hand would not close to make a fist and my little finger would not bend at all, even under force from the PT or hand surgeon that was consulted. My OT friend back in the US mentioned a type of splint which I investigated, and I'm guessing it was the same idea as the dynasplint. It was a fancy contraption with bands and such to put force on the flex of my hand and fingers. Being the innovative type, I had one of those wide bands used around the ankles and such for PT and I wrapped it around my wrist, hand and fingers in a way that it would pull my fingers toward my palm. Wearing this for an hour, that little finger gradually bent for the first time! Shortly after removing it, the finger would go back to not bending, but with each use, my finger, and my whole hand, would bend more and more quickly than the times before. It took awhile, but six months after the initial injury, my hand was finally able to make a tight fist on its own. I attribute this partly to time and partly to this makeshift splint. I'm sharing this because you don't seem to have gotten any others that have had the experience with the splint for their knee.

Thank you Janet! What a clever lady you are to make your own splint for your hand.

I am sitting right now with the Dynasplint on and although I am hesitant to give all the credit to my improving flexion, I will give some credit to it. I still believe the acupuncture

is helping more because that helps with the swelling, pain and flexion.

Judy ~ I agree with you about the lack of knowledge, but even one friend in particular, who had the TKR have told me that she was back to work in five weeks, albeit with a cane and I'm not sure how "all better" she was at the time. She also had to add that I am the only one she knows (and she knows lots of people who have had TKR's) and not one of them have had as much trouble with it as I have...

I have to agree with that too! I am so tired of hearing myself whine about pain, lack of sleep, and/or not being able to do some of the things I took for granted and did everyday, so it must be so for the people around me.

Judy or anyone happening by ~ Maybe you can help me with this too...

Can you please tell me how to change the MUA next to my avatar to TKR? I think that that is more significant and would invite more people to respond to my posts than to have anyone thinking I had simply (and I do not mean to imply that it was simple) the MUA. :sos: :sos:

All taken care for you---and there is no charge, what so ever! I am glad to read of your progress! While it may or may not be the infamous Dynasplint, you are making progress, all the same!
