THR Turning point

Wow, Charlie sounds like he is off the hook. I like your plan. Nice you have a level area for walking. I found uneven ground took more time getting used to. I think our motivation will come from the fact that we can finally do the stuff again. I was never lazy, I was avoiding pain.

@MammaT I survived. I stayed at the fence and Gary ran Isaac for over an hour. Charlie chased Isaac. Foster chased both of them and Henry wandered around aimlessly investigating the world. I worked with the 7 month old poodle puppy...he is afraid to get in and out of the car. What a great outing. It felt wonderful to be out and about and I have no pain. My cane was perfect and just enough to help me on the uneven ground. I can do this!

I used to enjoy walking also Poodles. It was my "go to" exercise. I walked on a treadmill on days
the weather wasn't ideal. It was actually on the treadmill that I began to notice something was wrong with my hip. Stubborn gal that I am I thought I'd struggle through. And I did somedays. I didn't bother me all the time though. Funny thing also, I also noticed my external rotation on the treadmill because we had a mirror across from the treadmill and it was then that I noticed my foot / leg was slightly turning outward. Major signals and I ignored them both. Hip was on the decline! I haven't walked in a couple years. I'm slightly wary of the treadmill and want to walk outside. It's coming.....just not soon enough.

I'm motivated to get moving and work up to a good pace and try this hip out! Just hope it doesn't wear my other one out.
Wishing you many wonderful walks with your boys! :doggie: We need a poodle emoji!
@Poodles

Nice @Poodles, getting a taste of being back to what you love so soon! It is really great there was no pain. Keep an eye out for soreness tomorrow, it can let you know if you over did it. Slow steady progress. You’ve got this!

@Layla I was a glutton for punishment on the elliptical years ago. I have a nice well used Precor upstairs. One hour every other day. Longer on Saturdays while watching cooking shows...why cooking? I have no idea...I really don't like to cook. But the first hip went south and affected my knee and it has been a dust collector. It will be my friend again...someday. The treadmill is Isaac's right now...I don't like treadmill's much.

My right hip was bad right from the day of surgery on my left. I realize that now. I should have taken care of it then and there! Live and learn?

@MammaT It was nice to do a little training with the puppy and his mom. AND to be outside. Pretty nice. Now it's snowing like crazy. I can't complain, we haven't had snow all winter. Even better the boys are tired from running. I am going to try and take Isaac with me to work tomorrow. It will be nice having some company on the drive again and we can get back to normal. Soreness tomorrow will be expected. The chair I have...my own personal chair in my office is good, but not perfect. I bought it after my first THR as didn't want anyone to feel obligated to buy me one different from the rest of the office. I set my phone to go off every hour so I stand up or walk somewhere. That helps.

Wish the weekend was just starting instead of ending. Best weekend in quite a long time. Picture of Isaac and the puppy running. Charlie in the background.

Got my hair colored and cut...wow. What that does to make you feel a bit more normal, is amazing. I was 3 weeks overdue and a bit shaggy...and grey. :holysheep:

Our friend in Michigan that lost her husband last week, got the 2 pounds of chocolate truffles from a little custom chocolate place here in Bend we sent. She needs the chocolate. We laughed when she said the outside of the box said to keep away from heat...it's 9 degrees there. Her first bite was frozen.

And we didn't go to dinner. Husband got a little protective and suggested we do something next weekend for our 42nd anniversary. That's fine with me and he had dinner ready for me when I got home, along with a glass of wine. What a guy! I really think he wanted to watch the opening ceremonies to the Olympic Games, which just are being broadcast here tonight.

Oh the things we look forward to! I have a haircut tomorrow and am so excited! Whooohooo

Those dogs are gorgeous. I have been contemplating getting a dog, but since retirement is within sight and I want to travel, going to have to seriously have to think it out.

Good luck at work tomorrow. I’ll get some extra ice time in for you.

Oh so cute! Look at the dogs romping around.
I watched tv on the treadmill too @Poodles. It gets boring otherwise.
I'd usually flip stations unless I was really into something.
I used to watch cooking shows but I was particular about which ones I'd watch.
Some I don't care for. I really prefer walking outside over the treadmill.
Seeing and listening to the sights and sounds of nature, can't beat that!
Hope your week is great!

@Poodles is there a human who can accompany you on your first walks with the dogs? That way they can take over if the boys get a bit over-enthuisiastic, just until they realise they can't do it with you. I know they are obedience trained, but the novelty of going for a walk with 'mum' might momentarily over-ride it. That would give you a bit of motivation too, if you had someone to natter to as you walk.....it's surprising how far you can walk without realising it if you're having a good chat! My 2 are aren't as big as standards and walk nicely, but even so I'll be wary of taking them out on my own as I think they're reliable 99.5% of the time, but in that remaining .5% they could make an impulsive movement and catch me off balance

Lol love the photo.....'your' Charlie has the same look of cooking up mischief as my Charlie......hope it's not an omen!!

Just because I was thinking about taking off my snow tires for the season, it finally snowed today. To go from 60 degrees two days ago to 17 degrees at 7 this morning was a shock. It warmed to 30, but it was insulting! Didn't snow in the mountains, just lower levels. Snow is supposed to fall in the mountains...or at least 3900' and higher.

@Walkinginthesand, Of course, you are attached to your baby! Doesn't matter what they are, they all give lots and lots of love. Enjoy the haircut. I can't tell you how good that haircut felt! Enjoy yours tomorrow!

@MammaT Thank you. We have so much fun with them and they go everywhere we go. With the poodles there is no shedding (although haircuts every 5 weeks) and we are spoiled. We rarely have an issue with taking them somewhere with us. I want to teach a class in "dining with your dog". I think it would be a hit in our town. It is a resort area, and everyone has a dog. Certainly, outdoor dining is important to us since we travel so much with our guys.

@Layla I worry about getting over my couch potato ways and getting serious again. Walking the boys will be the best and Isaac was a DREAM at work today. @anny You are right about getting out with someone else. I think my first walking will be with Henry...at 14 he doesn't move too quick and moves slowly because in his old age he wants to smell EVERYTHING. Charlie is my sister's dog...He's a bit of a nut case, but oh, so cute. I hope your Charlie is a better boy.

@AgilityDog BONUS ice machine! Love it! Lucky girl. That would come in handy for all of us!

It's just great to hear how you are getting back to your normal, with work, taking your doggy along etc.
Those of us who have yet to experience the joys of recovery are hanging on your every word!

I parked in MY regular parking spot today. It's an end spot, away from other cars, then walked across the gravel, with my cane and Isaac. There is no snow or ice today, albeit the temp was 8 degrees when I got here. Normality! I had been parking 15-20 steps out my office door, taking the owner's spot. Well, he can have his spot back!

Every day is a little bit better. AND I slept better last night...one uninterrupted 3-hour long stint! The rest was normal, waking up every hour or two or more, but 3 straight HOURS!!!!!!

I walked into the hair salon - makeup and even perfume, like I was going to the symphony! My hairdresser is a friend and she said ,”oh, bad day?” I was crushed! I thought I looked the best I had in almost 4 weeks!

:hi: @Poodles
You'll get out of your couch potato ways, hahaha! That made me laugh.
You and hubby have your boys to exercise and I'm sure you'll get in many great
walks once Spring has sprung. Can't wait for that myself!
Yahoo on 3 straight hours of sleep! Can we try for 4 :yes!:
Hope your Tuesday is great

@Walkinginthesand OH NO!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry. I would have been so bummed out! If it makes you feel better, I understand how happy you were to go! I giggled when I got the mental picture of you going to your appointment all spiffed up!

Our operations manager, who has had multiple back surgeries over the past 18 months, was sitting in my office this morning and we came to the conclusion we ALL need a nap room. Most of us have at least a 20 miles country highway drive to get here each morning. My drive is 28 miles each way. Most in management work 9+ hours a day. It's not like we can go home for lunch or a nap. Hmmm...I just need a blanket, a recliners and I could be out in a minute... We would have to fight over who got it and when.
