THR Turning point

Hey there....
Enjoy your night out tomorrow evening with your pretty new hair and hubby.
Hope you have a great dinner together and a relaxing weekend too!
@Poodles

@Poodles, I can so relate to just wanting normalcy! This is a long recovery, and I just try to stay focused on the prize. I had a fairly large benign cyst on an ovary a couple years ago which had to be removed. It was done laparoscopically and I was able to bounce back pretty quickly. I hope your appointment on the 16th gives some peace of mind and a plan. Hope you have an enjoyable weekend. We are in the midst of a big snow storm that will likely close things down tomorrow! :snow plough: Thank goodness my son will snowblow! ☃️☃️

Me too on the ovarian cyst Poodles. Mine was also caught on the MRI of my SI joint and then suddenly it was all about the ovaries. By the time 2nd ultrasound rechecked it had resolved and hopefully your situation can be similarly uncomplicated.
It is enough just focusing on THR recovery

@BeBe Thank you for sharing your ovarian story! I have another ultrasound on the 16th, then I guess there will be a decision to do, or not do surgery. I'll let you know. I don't know if I will be as lucky as you, but I hope so!

I chose to work at home today. The drive to work, albeit absolutely beautiful, is somewhat irritating (seatbelt) to me. So three days of nothing here at home. All relaxation, except getting a haircut today.

Hey @Poodles
Not sure if this will work for you. I was posterior and the seat belt hit in a place close enough to my incision
to drive me nuts. I'd bring along a frozen gel pack and stick it under the portion of the seat belt where I
felt the irritation. It worked like a charm. Hopefully you can find a place to position an ice pack while driving to bring you some relief. Praying all goes well in a week with your next ultrasound.
Enjoy that dinner out tonight!

Make sure the ultrasound tech is aware of your hip replacement. The stirrups are not kind when you're still recovering from a THR! I also had repeat ultrasound just a few weeks after surgery and had problems afterwards.

@SaraK I appreciate that suggestion. Last ultrasound tech I had was NOT friendly, didn't really care that I was in pain with my hip at all. I will be very vocal this time!

@jlsotr Good to know. The Gyno originally was going to ask the OS to do it all at the same time. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know my OS wouldn't have gone for that just because of the chance of infection, but was surprised she even brought it up. It will be removed laparoscopically. Oh, joy. At least I have my medical deductible met this year.

I essentially got a 2-for-1 special by getting both hips done in the same year - had hit the out of pocket max long before I had the second done (and was part of my thinking when I scheduled the second).

Have a great weekend Poodles. Lots of good stuff coming your way after you get all this blasted surgery mess done with it.

Got my hair colored and cut...wow. What that does to make you feel a bit more normal, is amazing. I was 3 weeks overdue and a bit shaggy...and grey. :holysheep:

Our friend in Michigan that lost her husband last week, got the 2 pounds of chocolate truffles from a little custom chocolate place here in Bend we sent. She needs the chocolate. We laughed when she said the outside of the box said to keep away from heat...it's 9 degrees there. Her first bite was frozen.

And we didn't go to dinner. Husband got a little protective and suggested we do something next weekend for our 42nd anniversary. That's fine with me and he had dinner ready for me when I got home, along with a glass of wine. What a guy! I really think he wanted to watch the opening ceremonies to the Olympic Games, which just are being broadcast here tonight.

@Poodles so sorry to read about your friend, and that you haven't yet finished with surgery.....hope all goes well with that. I'm glad you're enjoying being back at work.....it's so much easier to feel 'normal' if you feel useful, and then you get to come home to cuddles with your lovely boys....win win :yay::puppysmooze:

42 years! Happy Anniversary..
Guess you'll be keeping him.
Hope you have a Good Weekend!

How nice of hubby to have the dinner ready. And getting ready for 42 anniversary-what a celebration. Even with your other procedure upcoming, you have some important things to celebrate. Hope you have a restful weekend.

Happy Saturday @Poodles
Cut and color = mood lifter
Congrats on 42 years - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
Wishing you 42 more.....well, one can dream, right?
Hope you do something extra special next weekend.
Warm wishes for a great Saturday!

Older hippies....when did you get your desire to go on walks again? It has been so long, over 5 years, that I have had a desire to go for a walk. I have had pain all that time. My left hip is happy, and at some point, my right hip will be happier...I know it takes time to heal. When I was in SAR (search and rescue) we had a 5-mile trail we had to complete, both up and downhill, with a 40-pound pack in no less than 90 minutes on a timed test once a year. The last time I was able to do it was 6 years ago and it was near torture. I left SAR after that pack test...not because of the test, but other reasons.

I have two double hippie acquaintances in town who walk miles daily, one of them even leads a ladies weekly hiking group through parks and rec and has for years. So I know it can be done! I want to lose the weight I have gained, too!

Did it take special motivation? Were you walkers to begin with? I used to like to go on walks with the Poodle boys. Isaac is 5 and has NEVER gone for a walk around our block...a little over a mile...because of the pain I have had.
I would like to learn how people eased their way back into walking. :walking: All stories welcome!

I just started walking. My husband and I used to walk a lot. I didn’t do much the year after his death. When I started to get back into it to help with weight (and I thought it would help hip) I enjoyed it but it soon became too painful.

Started getting back into it several times a week as part of hip recovery. Was just doing 2 miles several days a week and right started going. I plan on picking it back up as soon as I am able. It really helps me mentally and physically.

I would say Isaac can be your motivation. Doggies need their walks. Instead of trying for the whole block at once, just break it into smaller chunks. Of course, you might want to give yourself some time before taking him, not sure about dog pulling on fairly new hip. Maybe some of our dog people have ideas on that.

@MammaT I agree Isaac will be a help. The boys aren't pullers, thankfully. It's the obedience training. When I flew to Philadelphia with him after my last THR, I used him to stabilize me when I got wobbly (we were on a deployment for crisis response...he is a working dog...NOT service) and flew there when I was 5 1/2 weeks post op. I didn't walk much there, not by choice, but we were in an area where the canines were working for a week.

I don't even venture out to the mailbox now. I want to, but the ground/driveway is uneven and I worry. So, I know it will be a while. Spring is coming and that will help. It's so warm here...no snow this year. I would like, in another week(?) think about walking to the hangars at work (airport) and back. Nice even pavement. Eventually, we have a loop I used to walk with the poodles at work and it was a nice break during the day. I take one poodle a day, normally Isaac, to work. He didn't go last week and I'll try it next week.

Right now, I see small improvements every day and we are going to take the boys to run today with a couple of friends. I can't go into the running area because my sister's dog will take me out, but there is a puppy I am going to work with, while Gary is running all the boys. My sister's idiot dog has broken her knuckle, screwed up her knee and she is in a brace and has cracked her tibia. Gary won't let me out of the car until Charlie is on the OTHER side of the gate from me.

Little steps that I hope come easily. I am so afraid I have become set in my ways and am sedentary from my former active lifestyle. Motivation will be necessary.
