THR Turning point

Oh you are doing So Well, Yay!:egypdance:
Onward and upward..by the by, I'm going to defend hubby. It is early days and it isn't hard to overdo as we are so ecstatic about having no hip pain.
You've got this:yes:

Hi @Poodles
Thought I'd bring the convo over to your thread.
Read you were feeling a little down just like walkinginthesand.
Hopefully the blues are easing for you. Going back to work must be an adjustment.
Please take enough time for yourself to rest as you continue to heal.

I like the adult coloring books but it's kind of addicting.
Usually I end up coloring longer than I planned. I find it relaxing to listen to music while coloring also.
I don't do it very often.... it's just another option to cure boredom.
Hope your week is good!

@Layla Work has saved me. The respect I have received from these youngsters at the office is amazing. Guys running across the parking lot (gravel) to open a door for me. Parking next to the door, people holding doors open...there are SIX doors, a parking lot and two buildings between me and the bathroom! No less than 20 of the guys have come to my office to welcome me back. The girls in the admin office offered to take Isaac out to run when they take their dogs on breaks. Isaac is staying home this week...I am smarter than to bring him to work!

It turned my whole outlook around when I got back to the mini dramas that occur in our itty bitty airport and with our tenants! The major tenant is own by the same people who own the airport, and there is ALWAYS drama with them. I normally hate the drama, but have been thriving on it this week. Soaking it all in...I just had 3 people in my office...at the same time. A pilot begging to be put at the top of the hangar rental list, an H.R. manager and the Controller for the engineering company. Each with a different problem. It all comes in waves and is keeping me centered.

We had a family disaster last Wednesday that turned our lives upside down and even changed retirement plans. Our best friends (high school for Gary and college for me), the husband died while snowblowing their driveway. Not a cardiac event. He slipped on ice and hit is head. Brain dead. I can't go be with my friend...and Gary has lost his best friend. Steve had just called and talked to Gary to check on me. They took a very early retirement and moved to a remote place in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. No friends or family back there. None...just the people they have met over the past 6 years, and even at that, they are no more that acquaintances. I am powerless to help. My OS let me fly last time across the county, with Isaac (he is a working dog for Crisis Response, not a service dog) for a Crisis Response at 5 1/2 weeks post-op. Even if I could fly back now, I could not take Isaac to assist me as he did last time...as it is not an official deployment. Our friend doesn't need Gary, although he has offered, but needs someone to help with paperwork and stuff. I can't be there, so we speak on the phone daily. It was a week today.

It's funny, I am extensively trained in Crisis Response and CISM (critical incident stress management) and although we are also taught self care, our primary responsibility is to take care of others, then ourselves. Most of the self care strategies we have in our toolbox involves physical movement. I'm not so good with that right now. Sigh...

So sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, so tragic. I'm sure your friend knows you'd be there if you could. I live in MI (lower peninsula) and it would be a tough trip to get to the upper peninsula so soon after your surgery, especially in winter.

So sorry for your loss. Such a terrible shock for his wife and you and your husband. It must be so hard wanting to be there for your friend but not being able to. I’m sure she understands even though this is a heartbreaking time for her.

So sorry for you and your hubby Poodles...and for your friend.

@Layla I pushed it today and it was WONDERFUL!!! Today is exactly 3 weeks since surgery. My husband helped me balance down steps, loaded me in the car and we drove up to see our daughter. It’s about a 35 minute drive. We stopped and got a drink, turned the music up loud and enjoyed the sunshine. Our grandsons were thrilled and it was a great afternoon. Am back in my chair, pooped but content. Thanks for the suggestion.

Great colleagues you have @Poodles. You're lucky!
It sounds as though work is serving as a pleasant distraction. That's helpful.

I am so sorry to read of the loss of your friend in such a sudden and tragic way. It has to be difficult
for you dealing with all from afar. Thankfully you're able to connect through phone conversations.
Obviously your friend understands you're unable to travel, or you and hubby would be there.
Prayers for the healing of all broken hearts.
Warm wishes for comfort and peace.

And you sound so much better @Walkinginthesand ! Getting out and enjoying life for a little while can be tiring but provide such a boost to you emotionally! I hope it's a good tired!:happydance::yay::dancy::loveshwr:

So sorry to her of your loss @poodles.i understand how the work drama can be a distraction. My assistant director dropped a card off and chatted briefly about some of our drama, which unfortunately will not have god outcomes for some involved, but it took mind off of everything else.

All you can do is help your friend the best you can from where you are right now. I know the pain of losing spouse unexpectedly. Trust me, her grieving is just beginning. You will be a tremendous help to her in a couple of months when some of the numbness wears off and others are moving on with their lives.

Great news @Walkinginthesand Congrats on 3 weeks! I'm happy to hear you got out and it lifted your mood.
Sounds like you spent lots of great family time....you are loved and blessed to have them all!
That's what it's all about....Hugs!

Sorry for the little derail @Poodles
Hugs to you too!

I just had to pop in and extend my sympathies on the loss of your friend. What a tragedy for everyone. As others have said I'm sure your friend understands and I'm also sure your phone calls are comforting...for both of you.

I also wanted to mention that I also had an anterior approach, and had my 6 week check today. I was stating to the doc how amazing the recovery is with an anterior approach...and he said that it can actually create problems for some people. Because people feel so good, they overdo it, and he said he often has to rein people back from being too active. He restated that the first 6 weeks is critical for soft tissue healing, and that after the 6 week mark, you can typically step up your activity level. I had followed those recommendations from this great group so feel like I didn't overdo (well maybe a little), and that seemed to help. Just sharing if that might be helpful @Poodles .

@Poodles
Thank goodness you are able to help your friend from afar. You will be able to make a trip to see her soon enough and that may be something she could look forward to for the future. She may need it more then as the activity right after a tragedy can be overwhelming.

So good to hear you're coping well with back to work so soon!

@jlsotr I agree with you 100%. Before my OS let me go back the first time LTHR, I had to outline the total extent of the activities I would do during the day and what would be wearing (NO JEANS or stiff fabric). I was able to satisfy her that I would not overdue and would let others do for me. Actually, I could get real spoiled if I didn't like doing stuff for myself.

So, no walking Isaac (he is staying home) at the office, let others get my coffee and heat up my lunch. Walks to be restrained to the bathroom and back (it's a jaunt), leg up when practical. Standing when needed. Last time i had a goal of the flight across the country which she was aware of. This time? I just want to get on with my life. I still have a little matter of an ovarian mass they found during the MRI, and then investigated by ultrasound. That has to be removed, but my OS says no surgery for that until she is comfortable with my recovery. I have another ultrasound on the 16th for that.

Not sure I am "fond" of 2018!

Aww, Poodles...I'm sorry to hear of the MRI results, hopefully that can be addressed soon.
Prayers for a favorable result on the 16th.

It sounds as though you have a great support system with your colleagues at work. That's a blessing for you.
I can understand that 2018 feels lackluster at this point but the great thing is we're only 6 weeks in!
That gives us all another 46 weeks to turn any negatives into positives. I think this is going to be your year! You have two new hips and a plan to remove whatever nastiness set up shop on your ovary OUT, EVICTION NOTICE SERVED! We have a better plan and it's health and wellness and I know you're working toward that end.
Prayers going up that you get through these days of loss of a friend and that your body heals completely.
Soon you'll be walking on sunshine, I just know you will! Hugs and love to you :friends: :loveshwr:
@Poodles

@Poodles my heart breaks for your loss. I hope you are better and that your heart is healing. I apologize for jumping in and telling about my outing. I never meant to down play your situation. Take time to mourn and remember the wonderful.

@Walkinginthesand I LOVED hearing about your adventure! Please, no worries. You really brought me a lot of joy!

I'm kinda got down in the dumps with all that is going on. Our friend, tax season (work), BUT we have beautiful weather, Gary will NOT be at the museum (he is a volunteer docent every other weekend) this weekend, AND most of all I wanna be "normal". Intellectually I know it takes time to heal, but I am over it as many of us are! Like you, and so many other, I need to be patient. I have 3 days to rest. Working from home tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday we will just hang out at home, and tomorrow afternoon a Hair Cut, and dinner out!

Love all you guys!

You have a good weekend planned @Poodles. I have basically ignored work. When I realized the federal government shut down was happening again (or looking like it) I did text business administrator to see if state was having us do additional draw to cover. They are, she did, back on sick leave.
