THR Turning point

"one of the black boys wanting on my lap when I get to go downstairs and sit in my recliner. We are going to have some "chats" about that for awhile. They will pout. " that made me laugh.....your boys are a bit bigger than my 2, and mine are seriously miffed since I got my recliner as only one at a time can come on my lap (and only if I've got the foot bit up) instead of both reclining on the settee on either side of me with a token head on my lap. Did I hear someone say these animals have got us wrapped round their little paws? :heehee:

Glad to see you're still doing ok, and wish you a good day today (if you've not already had it....time zones!)

Tricks for sleep? I laid awake watching the clock change time until way after 1 this morning, then slept off and on for the next few hours. I finally turned on the news around 5:30 . I had one short nap yesterday for about an hour.

I followed my normal routine for bed, including reading until I am yawning so much I have tears running down my face. As the Kindle went closed, my eyes went WIDE OPEN. As for meds, I had 2, 500 mg Tylenol and 1 muscle relaxer. This was the second night in a row. My hospital advisor said it was due to the narcotics. They wreak havoc on sleep. That's not what I wanted to hear, but I haven't had any since Monday.

One cup of coffee all day. Last night I thought I would be exhausted... during the day, I made my way down the hall to our home office (tricky as it has two steps into the office!) to look through the piles of mail that have been accumulating and even paid a few medical bills. Imagine that! And last night my husband helped me downstairs to have a semi-normal evening.

Thinking nice warm, steamy shower? What kind of tea? Other suggestions?

I listen to books on my MP3. At bedtime, I turn the volume down low and set the timer to turn off in 30 minutes (least time possible on my current one). Quiets my mind to listen to the book and I'm usually asleep within 5-10 minutes (used to have horrible insomnia but seldom deal with it now). Doesn't matter what type of book.

Don't know...all that surgery messed me up for WHATEVER reason...naps are all I could do to catch up this early out.
Sorry...:bored:

Compression socks. GRRumble. I asked Gary to pull them off of me tonight as they were making me ITCH. Rash on my ankle and they are so annoying. I'm going to call the PA in the morning and see what else I can do. Uh...as I understand I have to wear these for 6 weeks. Both times the hospital has called me that's one of the first questions they ask..."are you wearing your compression socks?"

What can anyone else tell me about their compression sock rules? I have compression socks (nice ones) for air travel that I will put on tonight before bed and after my shower in the morning.

Thank you for your help in educating me.

You might try washing them - there could be some sort of residue causing the rash. Hopefully they'll decide the ones you have work fine, though.

Hope you get it sorted @Poodles ....it's often the little things that are the most irritating! Pity you can't wear something under them like knee-hi's, but maybe they would slide down then? You can tell I haven't tried these items of sartorial elegance before :snork:

Are you taking any medication to thin your blood? Are you getting up and walking around regularly? I am not going to suggest you don't follow your surgeon's instructions but I ditched my compression socks at 2 weeks out from LTHR. The nurse said I could do this when I went in to have my staples removed. Many patients aren't using these anymore as there are so many other methods of preventing blood clots.

As always - the decision is yours.

I hated the compression stocking. The top was rubbing blisters on me. While I usually try to follow docs guidance, my stocking came off when I got home on a Thursday after Monday’s surgery to take a shower and it never went back on. Will try to follow better this time if I have to wear.

Let us know if they ok the shorter ones @Poodles, I might pick up a pair to have on hand!

re compression socks - the nurse at the hospital rolled her eyes when I said the surgeon wanted me to wear them. I am taking 2 aspirin a day and she felt this was enough. She gave them to me, but ironically, I can't get them on!...I've been trying to walk every hour.

Well, as I mentioned to @AgilityDog in a PM, we have washed both pairs and line dried them. They were washed in the same load as my pj's. We didn't want to dry them as thought they would shrink to next to nothing. But the laundry detergent is the same as we use for delicates.

Yes @Jaycey I have a few more days of blood thinners. 19 days prescribed and today is day 10 of when I started my prescription. Xarelto I believe. As far as walking, I am trying to do quite a bit in the house. I have this goal on Friday to walk with a cane into the dr.'s office. We'll see. I graduated to crutches except for bathroom trips in the middle of the night. Every day is better.

I think I have noticed the socks are more of a hospital thing than it has been an issue with my surgeon. When the hospital has called, it's on their list of questions. My best friend's husband is dealing with them (shoulder joint surgery) 2 weeks ahead of me, and my brother in law had knee surgery (same surgeon) a week after me...both of them are a bit of a mess with cardiac issues...both 10 years older than me. Instructions from the hospital. Even at that, it wasn't until the second day at the hospital, they went to put them on me, then realized they were on from the day before. In other words, they didn't even seem to be real concerned about getting them on me.

I wore my travel compression knee-hi socks last night and will attempt to put them back on in a bit this morning. It will be two weeks on Friday and I have an appointment with the PA to have the bandage taken off, so will check with her just to be sure.

I really appreciate the comments. You guys are the BEST!!!!!!!

I'm putting my money on a Friday night bonfire to burn the socks, after you're told you no longer need them.
Also betting you walk into the appt with your cane...You GO GIRL!
@Poodles

@Walkinginthesand in the sand, we can walk in spirit together! I can't wait to take at least the old boy...14...for a walk. He still passes me going upstairs, so I'm sure he's going to pass me on a walk when we first go.

Good morning! @Poodles
Aww, you two are sweet....friends in spirit!
I love the way you refer to your dogs as "the boys" Poodles, makes me chuckle.
Have either of you had any close calls in the dogs getting too close? Animals are pretty intuitive.
Hope you and @Walkinginthesand have a great day!

@Layla. Thank you for that! It's been so nice to meet so many kind people here. We are all pretty much in the same boat, although we may not have all the exact circumstances, we can put our collective brains together to help others. I like that.

Re the boys. 53 years of poodles, thanks to my dad who met one and loved her intelligence. He had to have one and we got our first when I was 10. My husband and I have been married for 42 years and Gary wouldn't consider any other breed. Sometimes they are like children in hairy coats.

This THR, like the last, Isaac has become my protector. He doesn't want me anyone close to me. At night he wants to snuggle. Finally, he and I have worked out a deal (he's 65 pounds and can push me out of the bed). I set the electric mattress pad to HIGH on Gary's side and he and Henry stay on that side. If they move in at night (Foster sneaks up), I clear the bed of the young boys (Henry never wakes up), then they have to start over getting comfortable. They learned quickly. But why didn't they follow Gary to the guest room?????

Stairs. For 30 years we lived in this house. When we moved in, we taught the first poodle that they either go up or down the stairs first. NO dogs on the stairs with people. They all have learned from each other since. So never a dog on the stairs with me or anyone else...except Henry who gets a late start going up at night, then passes me on the way up.

BTW, Layla, I am using my cane about 50% of the time. Just not good when I'm tired. :dancy:

Incredible how well trained your dogs are on the stairs. Good job with cane.
