Revision TKR Totally recovered at last!

I did a little studying for my class. I have a 2 hour exam to pass on Friday to get through my initial probation period at work. I don't think I'll have a problem with it but I want to make sure I pass it. I also have a three day class in the beginning of March that I have to take and pass too. This way I won't have to take it again after my surgery. My total training periodic a total of 6 months which would end May 2nd. I don't think I can wait that long before I have the revision as I'm getting worse every day. I'll be talking to my boss this week about how this will work out for me. He would rather I did it sooner.

So many choices - remember my offer.

Hello Marian and welcome to this wonderful site that I too have recently joined. I am 8 weeks out from right total knee and still dealing with daily struggles. I am a nurse and thought I had a good handle on what to expect post-op and throughout my recovery and I could not have been more wrong. I joined a gym 5 months previous to my surgery trying to get into the best shape possible with expectations of being recovered after 4-6 weeks WOW was I wrong!! Same as you problems with pain medications hit me early on while in the hospital requiring me to stay an extra day, the last thing I wanted to do. Went home with lighter pain medication and lots of Zofran which eventually settled at about week 4. Still taking pain medications and tolerating much better with improved apetite. I lost 15 pounds after surgery and have not gained any back as I feel my body is still working hard to recover. I was wondering what your surgeon has said and if he or she gphas offered any other treatments. I am currently using Dyasplints after refusing manipulation. My current numbers flexion 103 active ( on a good day) and extension -3. Please see my post if interested in how I got to this point. Again this site is very helpful if nothing else to know you are not alone. Good luck.

@Bullet With your ROM numbers I really don't understand why your OS would want to use MUA already. My old OS was just looking for 90 by 6 weeks. You seem to be right on target. It does seem to me that nurses a re almost at a disadvantage going into this surgery because we were probably all taught that at 6 weeks or so the patient would be healed and back to normal. Unless I worked in ortho (which I didn't) I knew no better. Now at 6 plus months I'm getting worse each day. It took a lot for me to accept that my original surgery was not done correctly and I will need to go through it all again.

Tell us you passed!

Hi all. I hope everyone is having a good day. I need some help again. @Josephine maybe you could help too. I was sleeping last night in my recliner and I must have slid down a bit. The next thing I knew my leg slipped off the side of the recliner and bent as far as it could go. I hard a sharp pain. Now when I try to get up to stand I can't seem to get any help from the leg and my knee is in extreme pain. I went to the ladies room and I almost was unable to get up. It took all the strength I had in my other leg to finally get up. I've taking tramadol and I'm using ice constantly but I still have pain in my knee and down the front of my lower leg. Nothing feels muscular to me. It's more of a bone pain in my leg. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have to be at work tomorrow at 6am.

Phone your surgeon, Marian, and see if you can get it checked.
Somehow, I think you'll be needing a "sickie", a rest day tomorrow.

Absolutely a sickie! You've just pranged your already angry leg is all. You need to rest it - yes again - and allow it to heal. I doubt you've done anything ghastly to it.

Hi Marian, how is your knee doing?
I got my 2nd knee scheduled today for March 29th!
Can't believe I am signing up for this all over again! Mixed feelings.
R knee obviously not 100% but it is so strong that I feel myself using it more when I go from sitting to standing, first leg to hit the floor when getting out of bed, put weight on it to relieve painful left one. It's time.

Of course I went into work today. I lasted 7.5 hours of a 10 hour day and then I just couldn't go on anymore. I was having very extreme, sharp pains when flexing my knee. Towards the end of my time there both of my knees were ready to give out. I called the OS office and my OSisnt in until Wednesday. I was told to see my regular doctor or go to an urgent care center. I had been talking with the OS office several times today. They are trying to find a spot for me and will call as soon as they have one. I went off to the urgent care center with my Xray in hand. (I was told this was a first). The doctor said it was all soft tissue injury. He said it was moderate effusion (swelling) and he saw I was having a lot of problem trying to stand up and walk. I was given a ace wrap, immobilized, and told to use crutches. I'm off until Friday. He wanted me to use crutches at work but that wouldn't work out at all. I'M the nurse.:heehee: I'll call my boss tomorrow and I will contact the OS. I'm going to get a surgery date. It's funny that everywhere I go when people see me limping and today with an immobilizer my new OS kept coming up as the doctor who fixed a problem from another doctor. I'm feeling more comfortable now with this doctor. As of tomorrow I can use some vacation time that I have accrued so that is good.
