Yes those two Canes work well. I was walker and sometimes wheel chair before my first surgery. So to be able to use to canes is a big step for me. I'm only 45 and want to regain my mobility.

Thanks! :) How do you lift your leg onto bed after surgery? Any tricks? It's still so hard to lift my leg.

I use a long sheet and put it under the bottom of my feet and left it up there. It's so much better and way less painful.

Great idea! I am going to try that. You are in my prayers. God bless.

Jebrig,
OK, it really helps to hear you are getting better. I remember two weeks after first THR I was feeling like walking a little and more and more each week. Then I noticed the right leg pain increased. Now five weeks later, I have walked enough to really flare up whatever was left in my right hip?? Or was it just as bad when I chose the left hip surgery and now it has reached its end? Going back to that hospital is giving me the jitters and now I wonder if the pain meds will work and why does the second hip feel so weird? Laying flat on your back again, right? Hey, how about two canes, they really work great don't they...

I used a wheelchair and walker before my first surgery. So for me to be able to use two canes really really gives me hope. I give glory to God.

Younghippie,
Sit on edge of bed. As you begin to lay back on the bed bring both legs with knees near chest and just lay back on the bed. Keeping the knees near chest level, then use elbows to drag your body towards pillows. PT approved although they laughed as being a little different...

I set on edge of bed and when I began to lay down I left the leg with my sheet and all is well.

OH yes, me too wheelchair and two canes but convinced my left was worse side, now I don't know. My right leg is making me use the walker more each week, and put all my weight on the good THR leg which worries me.

You will be amazed after about a week after your second surgery.

Ok, I am counting on that. Ready to hear you are walking around on one cane with no pain next week maybe. Don't rush it seems to be the best advice so you be safe and take care...

Jebrig,
Yes, getting mobility back is my goal and life back and being able to walk again without a cane. I feel like it is time to join the 'two hip club' because we are dealing with a whole lot more with both hips needing replacement. You are younger, so did sports play a role, or do you know? I played a lot of sports, pro sports, college sports, but why this? Makes no real sense. Without this technology, would we be in wheelchairs before age 60? Have you checked on the prosthetic your OS is using? Plastic cup, steel cup, ceramic cup? Thanks for answering. I sit in a chair to use the computer way too much, so I'm gonna go elevate my leg a while, but talking about all this stuff does help, we are blessed in many ways...

growing up at my heaviest weight was 580 pounds. I was never lazy I worked general labor jobs. Ran up and down the stairs and lived a normal life. About 2 years ago I got knocked down by a car real hard and was limping. Then a week or two later I was in a stand up forklift accident at work and it all went down hill then. My surgeon said it was a combination of the past weight and the accidents. I have lost 300 pounds and got about 50 more to go. Cutting all carbs and processed foods and sugars and being active will melt the pounds away. My OS used the ceramic on Ceramic replacement tools because I'm young and he said it could last 30 or more years....

Well Jebrig, I have not been overweight or in accidents but here we are, both sharing the same journey with THR. Maybe it's in the milk, who knows...

Hi @jebrig3164 . I will be 3 weeks out in a few days and am doing great. I have had a few PT sessions that have really pointed out to me what muscles I need to strengthen to be able to walk normal again. I am using a cane still, but really don't need it. I feel like I walk better with it though right now. I need to get a bit stronger to completely drop it. I have had some big milestones this week: shower without using a chair, go to the grocery store and walk around without leaning on the cart so hard that my arms hurt, went to two stores and out to dinner on mother's day. I could have gone back to work this week since my job is mostly sedentary, but I wan'ted to give myself more time to heal this time before going back to work. Last time I went back at 2 weeks and had problems with being tired. Oh, I also vacuumed my house!! That is huge to me. I'm able to do a lot of chores now around the house that I haven't been able to do for so long. I feel like life is getting back to normal. It is such a great feeling. I'm not having any problems with my incision this time either. So glad to hear your recovery is going well.

bamagirl, what a great praise report. Your able to walk without a cane now, that's great. You be up and out the house and going grocery shopping and walking around wow. I am getting better also I am able to walk with two canes I probably could use one but scared. I am two weeks out today and feels like I'm getting stronger and stronger. This is truly a gift from God. Keep up the good work my friend and God Bless you.

Two week update. So far so good and I'm claiming that things continue to get better. My pain is 0 maybe 1 when I do to much. I live alone so I cook and clean for myself. I'm able to get out of the bed in and out of the bed on my own. I'm able two walk with two canes now. Hoping to be on one cane by next week. I'm walking great with walker although leg is still stiff. I'm looking to recovery and get my life back. I'm thankful for God for all his grace and mercy he has shown all of us hippies. For those of you about to have surgery or thinking about it or just having it .It is truly a blessing to regain your life back.

Hey Jebrig!
You know I'm checking in to see how you are doing? I am right behind you with second hip surgery planned for June 9. Getting jittery, trying to keep all the bad thoughts away...

What's up waterman1? I for sure understand your jitters and keeping the bad thoughts away. But be encouraged in the Lord and knows he wants you to have your abundance of life back. I am 19 days out so far and it is totally different from my first hip replacement three months ago. Had some burning pain after surgery this time but it went away the same day with a Paine pump. My incision is still draining a little but still looks good. I keep it covered up. I am walking around the house on a cane from time to time. Still use walker a lot. Based on where I come from three months ago in a wheel chair and only walker is a blessing. I have no pain and the swelling is going down a little. I am getting stronger week and day by day. It's a process and I know I have to build up my muscles but I'm looking forward and you will too. Be encouraged it's gonna be alright. Be strong bro God is on our side.

Well today marks three weeks out sense I had my surgery. I am getting stronger can walk around the house with a cane now. I haven't done that in a year. I'm not in pain and I'm able to move and bend and move freely. Still stiff and sore and the incision which is still leaking a little drainage. Talk to my surgeon this morning and he wants me to measure it and email him a picture. It's not red and not leaking pus thank God. But he said it shouldn't be draining at this point. Other than that so far so good.

Glad you are able to move around so well now! I'll keep you in my prayers. Hopefully the drainage is nothing. :)
