Well first night home and I slept like a baby. @shrinkette it seems like yesterday when you and I was checking in together for our surgery. I can't believe that I had another hip replacement. Who would put themselves through that twice. I have the physical therapist coming by today to help get me ready to move this stiff hip. I must say it seems like two totally different procedures. For some reason my left knee feels uneven. I'm ready to get my life back so I'm gonna push a little harder now that I got both hips replaced. Boy oh boy when I came out of surgery My pain was off the chart. They gave me a morphine pump this time .I finally got it under control. Well its almost 7am. I'm gonna make some coffee and ice my hip. My surgeon main concern again my incision. Because of the extra skin he wants me two keep a dry cloth between the skin. I did the same with my first hip replacement and I give all glory to God for bringing me through. I'll post again tomorrow be encouraged and get your life back. So much living to do.

Please don't push @jebrig3164 ! It just doesn't get you anywhere. Slow and steady. You will find you have more energy once you get that post op pain controlled. Use that now found freedom from pain to get confident on your feet. The rest will just fall into place!

Yes your right. Got up made coffee and cleaned a little. Gonna take it slow much as I can. I live alone so some things I gotta do for my self.

You'll do great Jeff! Be prepared for the second not being the same as the first. I had my second hip done last Thursday and have had more pain with this one. It is a burning-type of nerve pain. It is pretty much diminished now, but it was awful the first few days and really surprised me. I also had a hard time with the anesthesia and did not the first time. I don't want to discourage you, but when they say each hip is different, it is totally true! What is great now is the arthritis pain is gone and I can sleep so good! I couldn't believe I only woke up once last night. Before the arthritis had me awake almost every hour. Good luck! We are both on our way to getting our life back. :yes!:

You are so right. I came out of recovery so much in pain. I guess by him adding leg length it makes my operated knee hard to walk on. The bone on bone pain is gone but it fells Un balanced tell me how was your walking after you woke up? He said my legs are same but it feels awkward.

@jebrig3164 Funny my left knee was bothering me at first too and the leg felt longer than the right. But that has now gone away and my legs feel pretty much even now so give it a little time. Glad to hear you are home and doing good. Important to get the pain under control. My doctor is also concerned about my incision just like the first one. I keep some gauze pads under the skin/fat flap. The first time I got a superficial infection because the top of my incision did not close well. The steri-strips they put on did not stay on. Now I have purchased my own steri-strips so that if they come off I will put some back on!

Hey Jebrig! Wondering how you are doing? My right hip is killing me like bone on bone while my THR left hip feels great. I swear though, my right hip is letting me down bigtime. So with both hips replaced now, how does it feel? I'm right behind you with June 9 getting close...

Hey Bama girl. I keep something on between my incision also as I did with the first one. I had no problem with the first incision at all, no leaking or anything and it was fine. This incision has bleeding coming from it sometime and I went back to my surgeon and he cleaned it and put them sterile stripes on it with surgical glue. So far so good and my legs are feeling like it's even out as I walk on it more. Are you still in a walker or cane?

@jebrig3164 Hi my hip buddy..just wondering how goes it?? Can you believe will be 2 weeks tomorrow for us. I think the April 30th gang is all hanging in there. I wanted to share with you that it was a great comfort to me when you posted the night before that you will pray for god's hands on us all. That really touched me and was so special. I have an old friend say that she prayed to god to guide the surgeons hands through my surgery. I again felt great comfort and peace and knew we would come through this. I hope you post a 2 week update tomorrow..and I will do the same. One day at a time, and so thankful aren't we we to have so many great friends here on BS. All my best...Sue :) :friends::loveshwr:

What's up Waterman 1? it was a blessing not having that bone on bone pain anymore and being able to sleep. It was difficult walking at first, because in my left knee it felt like my new hip replacement made my leg longer. It will be 14 days post operation tomorrow, a full two weeks, and I can walk better, and it feels like my legs are even now.
my right hip that I had replaced in January is getting stronger also. No pain at all,and I'm able to walk with two canes instead of a walker. I'm hoping that by mid June to need no walking aids. I know how you feel with a new good hip and a bad hip. It makes rehabilitation harder for the hip replacement. Don't worry once you get your other hip replacement it will line up in time.

Hi @jebrig3164 ! Sounds like you are doing great! I had LTHR at Emory one week ago. Doing well. Really liked Emory. Everyone was great.

I read that you had some bleeding from your incision. Did you have a clear waterproof bandage? That is the kind I have. Looks like there is a small amount of bleeding/drainage this morning. But, it's hard to tell because it's sealed so tightly.

Yes that is what I had the clear see through water proof bandage. I went back to emory to see my surgeon he cleaned it and said it looks good a little blood isn't bad. So he took it off and put a regular bandage on it. He said call him if it drains bad. So far so good it suppose to come off tomorrow anyway it will be 14 days. I had both hips done at emory.

Thanks! How many days from surgery did you have bandage cleaned? Mine is like just a tiny amount of blood/drainage (like maybe 1/2 inch or less wide of red/darker color on my skin where the incision is.) How much blood was on yours?

It was a line of dark blood. I had it cleaned a week later of surgery. Maybe about 2 inch. But when he cleaned it and look at it he said it look fine....who is your daughter.

OK. Thanks for the info. That helps a lot! Glad he said it was ok and that you are doing well! :)
I have seen two drs there (I have two different kinds of issues on the two different hips.) Bradbury and Erens (Erens did the THR)

Ok thanks. Bradbury did my replacement on both hips. Be encouraged

Jebrig,
OK, it really helps to hear you are getting better. I remember two weeks after first THR I was feeling like walking a little and more and more each week. Then I noticed the right leg pain increased. Now five weeks later, I have walked enough to really flare up whatever was left in my right hip?? Or was it just as bad when I chose the left hip surgery and now it has reached its end? Going back to that hospital is giving me the jitters and now I wonder if the pain meds will work and why does the second hip feel so weird? Laying flat on your back again, right? Hey, how about two canes, they really work great don't they...

Thanks! :) How do you lift your leg onto bed after surgery? Any tricks? It's still so hard to lift my leg.
