MUA Tigz's Lessons in Patience

Ouch! You definitely don't want to make it more sensitive! I wonder though...could you put an additional layer over that spot?

I have done that @tigz , and it helps some but not entirely. It's just really sensitive right where the scar from the arthroscopy is and I wonder if the ice combined with the scar has caused a little nerve damage that I need to let heal. I'm not foregoing icing entirely, but doing it for much shorter periods and with plenty of extra padding. The area only seems to bother when I ice. Sigh.

My scar this time was a bit sensitive (not bad) for months--but gradually improved.

Last night the sheets were irritating it, and again I must've over did the extension because in the middle of the night until the morning the back of the knee was achy. Still managed to get a decent night's sleep though.

Here's a pic from right now (probably should've aimed a little more towards the scar! ):

Going for a ride in a bit with my daughter who wants to check out what was formerly my father's house (he passed away March 9) to see what she might want. She's been wanting to do this for a long while and this is the first I've felt somewhat up to this. House is an hour away, she's going to chauffeur and I'm going to spread out in the backseat with ice if need be.

Most of the heavy clean up will have to be done by my brother and sister. I am not planning to over do it.

Spent the day icing elevating and doing gentle exercises. My knee definitely wanted to let me know who was in charge after yesterday. We made good headway in the house, and on the way home we stopped at a Chinese restaurant....first time eating out since my surgery!

It'll be six weeks tomorrow. ROM is still hovering around 90°. I have an appointment with the OS on the 19th, to discuss the possibility of an MUA. I've been doing PT three days a week and am debating cutting back...It's not like it's been helping? If I weren't working I'd hold off contemplating an MUA but my 12 weeks is up July 20 and I'll have to go back to work. Sigh.

I'm glad you've taken it easy today -- sounds like it was needed. I'll bet you're dreading going back to work -- I hope you get everything figured out in the meantime. I'll be 6 weeks this coming Friday.

Glad you were able to take it easy and still get a treat of eating out!

Hope everything feels better tomorrow!

Next week could be something altogether different and better for you. Hoping you're able to feel better.

Giving your knee a break could help. I seemed to make gains after "slacking off" for a couple of days between PT. And I only did PT twice a week with a few exercises a day in between. Swelling was very persistent. If you're close to 90 already, my guess is you'll see gains in the next week or so.

I'm going to cancel Wednesday when I go in there today. It would be one thing if I were gaining ROM with these extra visits, but I'm not.

Six weeks today. A little progress somewhere would really help my spirits. Still have weakened quads so I can't do steps, the ROM is OK but I wish it was better. Yeah there's still swelling so that's affecting the bending, of course. :)

I've been taking a little walk in front of the house that I've slowly lengthened in both directions. Broke down and put my Fitbit on to measure it today... 0.4 miles. I didn't think it was that much! At the most I've done two a day, most days only one.

Thanks @Pumpkln. I might try the saran wrap, the moist heat I'll save for a couple of months out when the swelling goes down a bit more.

Good for you, @tigz ! I think walking is doing as much as anything to help rebuilt my stamina and energy. Baby steps for both of us.

I was dangling my leg in the air with a weight on it at PT today, and on the table next to me was a new patient being evaluated. She looked at my leg and said very loudly "is that all the further you can bend your leg?" Needless to say the therapists made sure we were on opposite sides of the room the rest of our respective sessions.

Just saw a Red Sox batter get a piece of a baseball that promptly hit his knee. Ouch! And now he's back batting. Hubby suggested he needs my ice.

He ended up walking. And they promptly took him out of the game when he got to the base. Smart move!

Don't worry about anyone comparing themselves. We are each on our own recovery. I have a co worker that came back at week 3. My boss jokes at me I need to catch up to her and I am 13 weeks. I just said once every roc overt is unique and just ignore his jokes. Thing is, she can't do stairs at all, can't stand up from Sitting unsupported, and can't walk long distances. So I don't worry much.

This woman was being evaluated for an exercise regimen to help hopefully avoid knee replacement surgery. My issue was just that she didn't need to state the obvious.

Well, not to mention that she honestly doesn't have a clue. I know I didn't until I actually had this surgery.
