MUA Tigz's Lessons in Patience

Might've scared her a bit too! She was using a cane I noticed so I don't know how long she could postpone the inevitable.

I remember a manager came back after a month several years ago. She also had an office and was probably icing and raising her leg in the course of the day. Our current lab director came back at six weeks, which incidentally was the date of my surgery. Not comparing mind you, I think even if I had a desk job I would've started with 12 weeks, and maybe come back early if I was feeling a while lot better. But probably not.LOL

No matter how clueless, I'd like to think I wouldn't have blurted out something that unkind. Although I managed to say a few really cringeworthy things in my younger years trying to be funny, so I guess many of us have been on both sides of comments we wish we hadn't heard or said.

Today makes week #7 since my surgery. Friday my ROM decided to go backwards (82). Very frustrating, after cancelling Wednesday's PT and spending much of those three days icing and elevating with minimal gentle exercise. Quads are still in the process of waking up.

I see the OS Friday and we'll discuss a manipulation.

This morning I woke up to spasms in what I believe is the Vastus lateralis muscle - outer part of the quads - and it's continued intermittently all the morning so far. Not really annoying, I just look down and tell the twitching muscle IT'S ABOUT TIME!

Good morning quads!!! Look what's waking up!!

Quite surprising when that happens. It was still happening with different nerves when I went back to teaching. One of my students would be reading and I'd let out a squeal and my knee would twitch. Have you tried your straight leg raises since?

Yes @KarriB but still no dice with the straight leg raises... still a bit of a lag (but, hey, I can lift at least!).

They were rough for me, too. I'm very goal oriented so when I couldn't do the. For my pt the whole time I was in rehab I felt like a failure. She wasn't worris, it was all me. She even took my leg, lifted it straight up over my head and lowered it slowly to the table to help it remember what to do regularly. When I was finally able to do one, I cried and wanted to call to tell her! I did use my leg lifter to practice lifting and slowly held it looser until I was hardly using the lifter at all.
It'll come, in its own time...

Oh my gosh @KarriB that's how I am. I'm blaming me for the quads and the lack of ROM even though I know I shouldn't!

My PT called me after talking to the OS to say the OS said to hold off on the therapy until after I see him Friday since my ROM is not improving.

Manipulation scheduled for July 1st. I'm ever so excited (note: that was sarcasm). Least I got to cancel all my PT until then.

He is happy with my extension.

I'm sorry, I know that wasn't the news you wanted. I've read lots of posts of people thrilled with MUA results... I'm thinking you will be next!

"They also had a very nice angled rest for my leg...I wonder how much something like that costs. Probably too much since I'm trying to save pennies for stationary bike."[/QUOTE]

I had a look online at leg rests and they were a ridiculous price - several over £100 and at least 2 were £200+. No way! So I looked at some foam retailers and found one (I'm sure there were lots more) where I could choose the density and shape/size of the piece of foam. I got high density foam wedge with 3 different angles on it. It arrived within 4 days and cost me £13 with a stockinette cover. It 's very supportive, perfect for elevating and the steeper side is great for stretching hamstrings and calves. Not a bad bargain.

@JennyLynne thanks...in hope so too. Telling myself to put this out of my mind...for a while yet.

@puppywalker love your pups in your avatar! Thanks for that suggestion. Have to see what I can come up with over here.

Ahhh, I'm sorry @tigz . I know ypu were hoping to avoid an MUA. My best frind had one with her TKR and although it didn't solve her problem (OS put a too big knee into her leg) she didn't have a long recovery. But hey! Looks like you're working that new toy well!
