Bilateral THR Thing 1 and Thing2'

With 2 new hips, we might both be able to try in a few months. Mine weren't at the same time, though - in part because I didn't know the second one needed it when the first was done in April. I can't imagine doing both at the same time and have been amazed by your recovery!

Hi @Berber7227
You sound better. That's a good thing!
I'm sorry you've had a rough past three years. Hopefully most of what's hurt you has passed.
You've really been a stellar patient. You rarely complain and it's hard to believe you've just had bi-lateral
hip replacement. I'm amazed by you!

Those phone memories you described are funny. I don't recall that but I've always lived in the big city. Possibly you're more rural.

I didn't know there was an actual flavor graveyard! Thought it was just an online thing. Those crazy old hippies, B&J laughing all the way to the bank. They're probably a couple of old stoner's who came up with the idea while in a cloud of smoke, experiencing the "munchies". Hahaha! I don't want anybody writing me now in defense of Uncle Ben or Grandpa Jerry. All in good fun people, all in good fun!

@Mojo333
As of now I'd probably pick Americone Dream. That will change though. Too many flavors, too little time.
I only eat it in the Summer.

@Berber7227-I know what you mean about the roads. When I lived in Presque Isle, Maine we averaged 120 or so inches of snow a year and temps of -50 were not uncommon. I remember the first time -15 seemed warm! Here in ohio if e get 3” everyone panics! 2018 will be your year!

The three years before my surgery were horrendous. That's why I always promise to be grateful for this surgery and this forum...and to not let the little stuff get me in a funk. It's all better...never perfect maybe...but, oh my stars...so much better!

I may be doing well, because of how horrible it was before. Have a feeling PT will lick my butt! My left hip, thing one, was the worst of the two. Now it is normal. Thing two on the other hand, is not all that happy, and holding up progress!!!

Hello @Berber7227 obviously I can't speak from experience, but I have been following someone on the knee forum who had both knees done together (her name is Susieshoes). She had one knee recover at a slower rate than the other one. Might be quite normal? Keep up the good work.

I don’t seem to have one better than the other. Left hip was worst pre op. I asked the surgeon to do it first just in case he stopped after one.

@Berber7227 Before I got married I use to commute from Gill, Mass to Brattleboro, Vt for work .... Vermont ALWAYS plowed roads much, much better than Mass did! One time driving home in a blinding snow storm - the kind where the snow looks like a chrysanthemum coming at the windshield - I could tell I was getting close to my exit only because the plowed pavement ended and hubcap deep snow started - "OH wow I must be in Massachusetts now!"

Hopefully now that the hips are pain free and you are healing well, life with get much much better for you! Bad times come and bad times go ... let the GOOD times roll!

@djklaugh I drove to Boston in one of those storms at night! Followed the white lines on the side of the road! On the interstate, I followed lines down exit, back on, next exit same thing!! With two other cars following me!! Lol.

Any hints on scar care? They look and feel gross! My first surgery, was not sure what to expect. Does rubbing them help break down scar tissue? Tens machine?

Too early to be messing with those scars I'd say. Mostly they get better in their own. Right now, they are still forming to hold stuff back together...topically I would put coconut oil or vitamin E so it didn't feel so tight and pulled and hopefully reduce appearance. But only after sure all was good and tight...no infections wanted. I still have some bumpy lumps ...small under there. Oh well, battle scars.
Five months out..

Hi @Berber7227 I hope you're having a good day!
I agree with Mojo on leaving those scars alone until they are completely closed tight.
I use Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitamin E.
It's a thick cream in a squeeze bottle and you don't need much.
As far as those bumps (adhesions) I believe my PT started gently massaging mine
when I was three weeks post op. I apply the Palmers daily after I shower so I figure the
few small ones I have left get massaged well enough then.

After stitch out I used a little lotion around the sides (avoided cut). After completely healed just massage a bit when I put daily lotion on. Healed vey nicely and continues to fade.
