TKR The journey continues

I am a FOOL. I know what not to do and I do it anyway. Yesterday and today I walked to the entrance of my subdivision which is .6 miles round trip. Yesterday was OK. Today my knee hurt like ...... I had to walk stiff-legged part of the way back. I give advice to be patient and how we are still healing and I ignore my own advice. Yes, I am mad at myself. I get bored being home and think I can do more. I'm riding the bike 10 minutes a day and that doesn't hurt. I'll go ice and elevate. Grrrrrrrrrr.

@Floridagal we are all better at giving advice than taking it, don't be so hard on yourself.

I hope you feel better soon:chillpill::ice:

Ughhhh you poor thing.... I hope it doesnt hurt too long, and you wait longer before trying that again...

Yes, Clara, we sure are. I'm part of that, 'do what I say, not what I do' gang. I sure hope you get some relief really quickly, Amy Jo, and that you can sleep tonight. You might have to do like a lot of us do and ice all night. Anything for a good night's sleep. You never know when the knee's gonna say no to something we're doing. Yours responded really quickly to your walk. You have walked that far many times according to your Fitbit. Why your knee decides to react today, who knows!

Amy Jo, I'm sorry you're feeling so sore! I completely understand!! I just want to get OUT and do anything active. It's so hard to be patient.

I hope Lady Mary calms down and chills out.

It's always the getting back part that is hard! Live and learn, Amy. The boredom got to me big time. Sleeplessness and boredom...

I'll probably be a fool too. It is so easy to sit around and put things off when you are feeling well, but as soon as you know you shouldn't do something - that is just when you want to do it the most.

Lady Mary is such a snob. She just didn't want to walk a long distance and up and down hills. For now I will listen to her and just do short little walks with my Chihuahua. I took a Melatonin for the first time last night and had a good sleep. Thanks to everyone for your words of encouragement. I will try to be more sensible. My BF says it is a family thing. We are all so competitive and can't stand to be idle. My brother was golfing at six weeks after his THR. This Sunday the community choir starts up which will be a big distraction for me. Oh, today is week ten but there is nothing to report. I don't see my OS until September.

I'm glad you were able to get a good nights sleep. I'm sure that your little chihuahua was happy with a short walk. Sooner or later Lady Mary is going to want to get out and around much more than she has so far.

I'm so glad that you're doing better today. Short trips are better than no trips, and I'm sure your baby dog will agree with! At least you're getting out and doing things and next month you'll be able to do even more!

:flwrysmile:I am glad you are feeling better...Have a great day Amy Jo

How are you doing this morning, Amy Jo?

Sleepy. The Melatonin didn't work last night. Wishing that the healing would go faster. I want to be able to walk farther. It feels like my healing has really slowed down. Last night I was kept awake by an ingrown toenail on the other foot. So I now have to soak toe, ice and elevate. At least my knee doesn't bother me at night and I am comfortable walking around the house. Once in awhile I get those healing nerve zings but they go away quickly. I am grateful that I can eat out comfortably. Tomorrow we drive to Port Orange to see my brother, his two sons and my two grand nieces (4 and 6 years old). That is a two hour drive. We'll go down and come back the same day. So basically I have nothing to complain about except my impatience to be 100% when I am only 1/4 of the way to being healed. I try to look at the glass being half full and not half empty and be grateful for what I can do and not focus on what I can't do.

Think back to what you were able to do a month ago and compare to now. You have come far, but still have a bit to go. I think these next milestones are further apart because they're not as noticeable and you're not as focused on recovery. Your life is moving on. A month ago you wouldn't have been able to take a 2 hour car trip.

@dianehelen The knee does great as long as I don't try to walk to0 far outside the house with it. Maybe it is agoraphobic. :) It is still stiff but less swollen than in the past. I live in a subdivision that has lots of hills. Maybe the hills are the problem. I seem to do OK in stores. I take my cane with me just in case when I eat out. It is very stiff after I sit for awhile.

Hills in Florida? Huh :-)

Ya I imagine that would put more pressure on your knee.

Be careful out there.

@skigirl Am I asking too much of my knee at ten weeks post surgery? I want to walk .6 of a mile and that includes some gentle hills on pavement. At 12 weeks I plan to go back to my personal trainer and start working on my core and uppers. I will keep him away from doing anything with the knees for a while longer. I am thinking of hopping on a golf cart on Monday and maybe playing every other hole or just chipping and putting. As you might remember I ran four marathons in my 60's and want desperately to be more active. I've been riding my stationary bike for 15 minutes everyday. Am I just asking for problems down the road if I do too much now? Thanks for your honesty.

You have done so well from the very start of this recovery, I understand your frustration, but this is a long road and you don't want to do anything that is going to set you back. Celebrate your victories which are many and just be patient a little longer.

I was never into sports, or running or really anything strenuous in the past, I guess it comes in handy now :loll:. When my OS said I would not be able to jog after my TKR, I almost laughed out loud!!!

@uva55 did you just swear, joging, running, exercise
