TKR The journey continues

Today I went to a local spring and walked and floated in the crystal clear 72 degree water. :surfer: What fun! I was afraid that my trip to the gym might put the knee over the top but it did fine. As @Happydale said it is so hard finding the right balance from doing enough to doing too much. I made sure I walked over uneven ground with my cane even though I could have gone without. I know an unexpected twist of the ankle could be a disaster. I ended the day with a hamburger and a large chocolate shake. :egypdance:

It sounds like you had a great day! You are someone for people to envy with your wonderful recovery! It wonderful that newbies can read your thread and know that good recoveries are possible. Yours has been exceptional!

That sounds like a wonderful day out. The is nice when you can start to see that you will have a much better life with your new knee than you could have before.

Bet the shake was extra good on a day like today! At least here it would've been!

Sounds lovely! I can't wait until I can go in the water. When did you get clearance?
:dancy:

@TML my OS said no bodies of water until the incision was healed and no scabs at all, at least 6 weeks!!!

The spring sounds heavenly! Almost as heavenly as the burger and shake :). A good hamburger (with fries and a red ale) is one of my very favorite meals.

A little step forward, a little step back. That's the dance we do. Last night I tried sleeping without the blue pill and I only woke up once which is fantastic. Best of all the rash is disappearing on both forearms. It must have been the blue pill. I've had the rash for almost six weeks. The step back? I went for a short walk before breakfast and my knee rebelled loudly. I had to ice as soon as I got home. Yesterday we went to a political debate and I sat with leg down for about two hours. That's the only think I can think of that would have irritated the knee. So I will take it easy today so I can go to a concert tonight. That's the way the dance goes right now.

Yep, our babies still want to be babied! At least we can do more each week than we did the last! Enjoy your day of rest!

Hi Amy Jo,
I just caught up with your thread, and commend you on your positive attitude and recovery. I love all the normal and wonderful activities you've been up to. My PT told me that some of my "set backs" are simply from split seconds when muscles didn't fire when they should have. That puts a strain on the other muscles that have to pick up the slack, and can be sore. It helped me to think of it this way. Enjoy the concert tonight!

We can't just jump back into our regular lives, it's got to be a little at a time. Amy, you are very smart to take it easy today so you can play tonight. As I would say to my students, "Kiss your brain!"

It was a wonderful concert with a chorus of around 70 singers and a dozen people as an orchestra. They came together just for singing in the summer and did songs from the UK, both modern and old including a medley from "Phantom of the Opera" and "Les Miserables." We sat in the choir loft and I was able to put my leg up. :)

I love both of those musicals! Sounds like a good night and being able to prop up that leg means you aren't dealing with swelling.

Amy Jo, how nice to be able to go to a concert and listen to uplifting music. Doing normal things again is so invigorating, even if we have to pace ourselves.

What a wonderful night you had! I would want to be right up there singing with them! Live music is so moving and rewarding! You are doing so good Amy Jo. You have truly been blessed and we are blessed knowing that people can have problem-free recoveries.

Amy Jo, what a wonderful evening you were able to enjoy!!!

A question for you smart people. Have you ever tried using BIOFREEZE on your knee? Of course the scar would have to be healed. Sometimes I get a pain on the inside or below the knee and I just wonder if BIOFREEZE would help. Runners often use it on sore muscles. Tomorrow I see my PCP and find out how I am doing in general. I had blood test two weeks ago. In the past I've been anemic from the surgery as, I am sure, many of you were.
