THR The fun part

You will overdo at times, AND have to balance those overdid it days with some take it easier days.
Don't forget when you get home to ice and elevate.:ice:

Hope your day was a good day!:) :-) (:

You will overdo at times
Wasn't it Conan who said, "it's a good day to overdo"? Or something like that....
Yep, trying to take that into consideration - lots of computer work the next two days, before back shoots, one of which I'm shooting someone else's PT session! This weekend I'm gonna find my own ice berg and melt it with my butt.

Seriously, thanks, Mojo - you always give great advice, and I don't mean to seem like I'm ignoring it. Snark is just My Way - but I'm very grateful!

If you knew how adventurous (according to my mother) I've always been, you would see the irony in my position as resident worry wart and scolder at times. :)
I was so ready to get back to life...and I had to return to my job as we are charity and there wasn't really anyone to cover for me for long. The only other choice was to suspend our services which meant people in need of food would go without..
I do worry you will overdo as you are less than 3 weeks from having a prosthetic hip implanted.
I WILL :nah: and :no-fin: .

:heehee:I framed my hip X-rays for a reminder...
I had (in hindsight only of course):dubious:, a very good recovery...I say -
It was real...and it was fun, but it wasn't real fun!
Don't want them to have to redo anything on my account!

Thinking of you and your shoot tomorrow and wishing you success and pain-free comfort in every way!
You're awesome and amazing ~

I think I worked out how to carry loads without stressing the operated leg today, but I'll know more tomorrow afternoon. Keep those toes and fingers crossed!

Next week I'm so looking forward to renewing my ODIC membership ... I have such plans ....

Going through Bone-obo withdrawal.
Can't you just be an invalid a little longer?

I hope you're holding up with your busy week.
Hope today is good and your weekend great!
@Bone-obo

You sound like me (which some would say is not necessarily a good thing) when you mention renewing your ODIC membership. I did actually plan to "push it" some days when I knew I could recover the next day if necessary. Hope the shoot goes well! Enjoy the outing if nothing else!

The shoot went very well! The client was suitably impressed, and observed that I'm walking with less of a limp than I was before surgery, so there's that. Even so, he insisted on carrying lights and heavy things for me, so like the good contractor I am, I let him. I'm so nice.

My energy was phenomenal until suddenly it wasn't, around mid-lunch, so my wife did the majority of the driving back home (2.5 hours). That's the weird thing about energy: it drops off suddenly, with almost no warning that I can come up with. I wasn't bonking - I was actually eating when it occurred, and my appetite vanished with my energy. I'm looking forward to exploring this further when I have time, maybe to see if there's some kind of perceptible signal that energy drain is nigh. Anybody got any insights?

So now I'm home, happily situated on my favorite couch, recovering for tomorrow's mini-shoot, and considering where I am at 3.5 weeks out:
- My energy around the house is about where it was pre-surgery. Yay!
- Outings are costly, but I can still put up a front for a few hours without assistance, including carrying minor loads. Partial yay!
- I haven't worked on my ROM at all this week, so unknown how that's faring - probably not all that well, though.
- Overall strength in the op leg seems waaaay down - I have to be careful of extended stair climbing, which I cheat by stepping up with the non op leg only, especially if loaded. (As in carrying something, duh.) I suspect that's gong to be an ongoing issue for months.
- It's harder to get into the ODIC, but definitely doable. I'll test the limits next week. Save me a place at the bar, @SaraK!

UDIC. You crack me up, @eve2!

Thanks, @Layla - you're so kind! Let me get thru this week, and I'll start posting a bit more. I miss you guys!

And I need to revise my hit points usage chart.

Some who???

Yea...clue...doing too much.

I haven't worked on my ROM at all this week, so unknown how that's faring - probably not all that well, though.
Not necessary to "work on ROM"
You are working on torturing your poor hurt leg!

Not hard at all...I suspect you'll get there! Not sure why that's a good thing, but we all gotta do what we gotta do I guess.

Got my "I told you sos ready, but honestly gives me no pleasure to see someone get what they deserve, especially if it's pain and exhaustion.
Please try not to sabatoge this recovery.:beg:

Hey Bone-obo ~
Great to hear your shoot went well and your wife took care of you driving home - that's a long trip each way, no wonder you were exhausted! Also happy to hear you let others help w/hauling that equipment!

That's an aggressive outing in just a TAD over 3 weeks! Working is totally different than going out for din din or to a show...requires much more focus and concentration ~ no wonder you crashed at lunch:wink:
Amazing your client noticed that your "limp" is less than pre-surgery ~ YAY...hey that just made me realize that I'm actually pain free now in mine ~

I hope we don't have to crown you any time soon, not a fun club to be in- UDIC is MUCH better : ) seems you have a little devil in you...you actually want to be bad as you have another "mini shoot" tomorrow?....Listen to your better angel half and BE GOOD:good-bad:rest, relax and Ice Ice Ice!:ice:

Sending lots and lots of positive healing vibes to you today ~

@Bone-obo

what is going on here!! You go out have a shoot 3.5 weeks post op? OMG :D
Welcome to the ODIC I see also that the president of the ODIC is here @SaraK, pleasure to meet you.

You have been going around doing crazy thing and here I am resting on the couch and icing tsk tsk tsk.

Well, keep us posted! And please take care :catdance:

Aw, you guys! I appreciate the concern, snark and all! :loveshwr: So let me hasten to assure you that I've been all UDIC and no ODIC all week in prep for today, and that I'm very invested in long-term better getting. But I'm feeling so much better than I want to explore - gently - what I can do. I haven't been to PT, walked longer than it takes to get from the car to a restaurant, or done anything remotely physical all week, so the kind of ODIC-tempting activities I have in mind are more like:
- go back to PT
- go to the gym and get on the elliptical for 10 minutes
- walk around the block
- maybe actually do some PT-recommended exercises at home.

I've seen other people here hurt groins, knees, ankles, and feet when they started to feel better. I know this type of injury can sideline you for days, weeks, and months. And I know that while my hip feels a LOT better, that it's still not healed, and that my body hasn't adjusted to the new reality of a longer leg and a looser hip joint. And I also know that ODIC is like sunburn: once you notice it, you're already cooked.

I'll be careful - I promise!

Awwww Bone-obo,
You know we ALL luv you:roseshwr:! You're just such a "go-getter"....we're all concerned for you (obviously)....but you "get it" and are taking care of yourself so that's great!
Hope you and your awesome wife have a beautiful evening!

Hey @Bone-obo. Hope your day is easy and breezy. I truly am happy that you are seeing the benefit of this surgery and are anxious to 'get the show on the road'
I hit the ODIC many times as I went back to work part-time out of necessity for the charity I manage, and I do know that my recovery suffered a few setbacks as a result from time to time.
It is, as I heard described the other day, a dance...
The energy drain was off and on...mostly on with activity of any sort...for me, for more than 3 months.
Your body is using the energy for deep healing and there is little you can do except try not to bleed its reserves so that it can do what it needs to do first and foremost.
Truly wishing you the best this weekend...

@Bone-obo - you and I are like the toddler that stands at the line the parent has drawn and said "Don't cross this line." We stand there, look back at our parents to make sure they're watching and very deliberately (and with an innocent smile and angelic face) cross the line! I'll hold your spot at the bar!
