THR The fun part

If you're ready for an outing in 3 weeks, I'll walk to Missouri to meet you!
Now don't forget who you're talking to @Bone-obo or you just might be forced to walk to Missouri! Don't tell Layla or Mojo, but I bought my ticket for the NYE event for my group and plan to try to make at least a cameo appearance. (I think Layla's already doing this :gaah:).

Hey there @Bone-obo, popping by to wish you the very best tomorrow! Tell 'em to give you enough "juice" so you don't hear the carpentry! You've got this! Lets hear it for double hippies ! 2019 is going to be a upright riding year! :bicycle1: :horseriding: .

Hope you get some sleep tonight .

@NanaKP I’m also making a hot/cold sandwich: ice bag on the bottom, heating pad on my tummy to ward off the chill. Whatever works, eh?

:wave:See you once again on the healing side.
Tell the OS to take his time...we'll be waiting for you.:friends:

And - done. The new hip is AWESOME. I’m running on Tramadol and Tylenol at the moment - very effective although I’m a trifle loopy. Did a short lap around the hall and I can already say this baby is RIPE for some serious over-doing. I’ll have to focus on throttling back for a while!

And thanks to all you guys for demonstrating once again how amazing this site is as a support group! I can’t respond to each of your well-wishes individually at the moment, because I’m working on an iPad, and it doesn’t have the selection options I have on my home computer. But as soon as I get home tomorrow, I’ll make sure to rectify that.

Woot! Woot! Look at Bone-obo go! Welcome to the land of double hippies! If you're anything like me (and I think you are), you'll be tempted to push things a bit faster this time around. Just keep reminding yourself what a lengthy visit to ODIC is like and listen to your body. It's something like the Serenity Prayer - not doing the things you should not do, not being afraid to do the things your body is ready for and the wisdom to know the difference. That last one is the hardest - especially while you're loopy on painkillers!

Awesome news @Bone-obo! Great to see you on the healing side. :yay::egypdance::dancy::happydance:!!

Getting the lasso ready to rein you back in from the ODIC!! Geez...you are not out of surgery 24 hours and are already plotting your adventures!! It does feel sooooo good to be walking on two OA pain-free, gliding-smoothly hips doesn't it!! Wishing you a comfortable day and night, and an easy trip home.
Here's to being a double hippy .

@SaraK : my problem is that my body lies! I start walking and it just feels so exhilarating that I keep on walking, and the next thing I know, it’s hello ODIC! That said, I’n aware of both the problem and the consequences, so I’ll try to do better this time!

@Alitm : yep, looking forward to getting outside again. Might even try horseback riding!

@Mojo333 : something freaky’s going to have to happen to keep me in the hospital after tomorrow! Not to say that it couldn’t but the way I feel now, it would have to be something truly awful! And I shall remember this next time I’m tempted to enter the next walker race.

By the way, the lower net dosage of meds worked out great - they cut back on Benadryl and were more careful about slamming me with Versed. While I was awake longer (I remember getting the spinal this time, but I was too loopy to care) I also woke up MUCH quicker afterwards, and felt good enough to try out the new parts on a short section of hallway, chaperoned by a very nice (and cautious) PT person. Significantly better than last time.

Woo hoo! So happy to see your post.
It's exhilarating to have surgery and the accompanying anxiety in the rear view.
You sound great! Take it easy and keep in touch, you know we'll be here.
Wishing you continued comfort.
@Bone-obo

It is so good to hear you in good spirits.
It is only someone wise enough to know what this means for a fabulous future (or on major meds) who could be this upbeat and witty...as always...after hip replacement.
You are a real inspirational fella, there, @Bone-obo !

WooHoo @Bone-obo! Double Hippies Unite!! Welcome to the other side - the double dip delight side. I wish you smooth speedy and steady healing - I think by month 2 you'll be quite amazed how hip 2 is performing. But the big question is .... DID YOU GET A VIDEO of ye ole discarded femoral head? I hope so! It's great for clearing visitors from the home when you feel like napping, just pull out the femoral head video and offer to show them one more time. Take good care @Bone-obo!
:santawave:

@Bone-obo Welcome to the other side again. You are now an official member of the double hippie club! Easy does it - you know the drill!

Most kind, especially for one more smartass than sage!

DID YOU GET A VIDEO of ye ole discarded femoral head?
NO! I really meant to ask about that, but my cutter came thru in polite no-nonsense mode and dictated the conversation. I got all the necessary questions out, but this one not so much! This guys a pretty conservative cutter - he doesn’t strike me as someone who’d cotton to show biz stuff like you and me.

If only living it were as easy as knowing it! I still don’t have a good strategy for negotiations between my sadder but wiser hipmaster self and my inner toddler. I’m always hearing “just another five minutes/miles/laps” in my inner ear, and “maybe tomorrow” makes for inner frowny face.

Med experiment: I’ve noticed that I’ve done much better on Toradol/Tylenol than I did on Tramadol/Tylenol, so I requested being sent home with an NSAID-based pain control plan instead of an opioid-based one. We agreed to a compromise: I get my NSAIDS, but I also get emergency opioids in case the pain breaks thru. Win!

Pain: O (although my butt’s sore from a too firm mattress)
Mood: ebullient, optimistic
Exercise yesterday: 200-ish feet down hospital corridor
——
Addendum: the pharmacist just informed me I’d be getting Norco. Boooooo! My PA’s in surgery but as soon as she’s out, by crackey, we gone talk!
___
Addendum addendum: my bad - the PA figured I'd use the Meloxicam prescription I already have, so she didn't add it to the hospital scripts. We're cool!

Awww, too bad! No more femoral heads left, there goes the moonlighting femoral ashtray business idea, I guess. I'm happy you're having such good results thus far and taking control of your RX factor. After both hips I can say the most healing thing for me was the amount of rest I could get. Glorious REST!! Making you stronger to do twenty-umpteen laps. :)
