Not yet. She posted about an hour ago still at the hotel.

Well done, its over

Please let us knw how it went when you feel up to it

Glad you are now all done, Cappy. :thumb:
Hope you have a peaceful night.

Very sore, very nauseous. Different level of sedation this time - I was aware of the hammering and drilling but didn't care.

Wound has been bleeding - the bed change was a hoot. Just had a morphine shot so hope pain will ease. Doctor is coming to see if I need anything for the nausea.

I'll check back tomorrow. Play nice while i'm away.

Awww Cap, not what I wnted to hear. It will pass though, so make a lot of noise until they get you the meds. Look at the bright side, you'll never have to go through it again! Hang in there Cap! :console:

Just had a visit from my surgeon. Apparently this hip was much more of a challenge than the previous one. A large amount of ossification had taken place and the first 20 minutes of surgery were spent chipping that away. He was surprised that I'd been able to move it at all!

He has concerns over my leg length as he says it's very much a judgement call when to stop chipping away. The ball ans socket were about an inch away from where they were meant to be and he described it as a right mess.

Not surprising i'm in pain given all that.

However, I've been up, washed and dressed. The physio has started her torture routine. I've walked with a frame up and down the corridor. Still have problems with pain management.

More moaning soon.

Hi Cappy, finally done with the hardware! Congratulations. Just sorry to hear about your nausea and pain. Just sleep it off. Hopefully, you get your pain managed soon. All the best.

Oh dear. Well, that's why he did the other leg first then! Sounds like you are doing very well though for being thru all that yesterday.

Hang in there Cap. Have you asked them for ice for your leg? NO VODKA YET! Perhaps some other meds as well. Rest up Cap!

Hi Cappy, just visited the site today after not being on for over a week & seen that you've had the other hip done yesterday.
Sorry to hear you're feeling nauseas - make sure you ask for the antisick pills, or several deep bowls!
Sounds as if the builders were working in your op theatre too :th_heehee: I can remember during my 1st THR I kept wondering why the brickies were allowed to work during an op!

Don't worry too much about the leg lengths just yet. I had 1" difference after 1st op which settled down to about 1/2" after a few weeks, after 2nd op both legs were equal. When I saw my Xrays my 2nd hip joint is higher on the pelvis than the 1st joint but still the legs are equal. After a month or two the difference should hopefully settle & if you do still have a few millimetres difference, then ask for a referral to see a Podiatrist (foot doctor) who'll sort you out with an insole.
My PT also says that what you think is still a length difference after a few weeks is in fact the way you're walking & certain exercises can sort that out.
Best to put that to the back of your mind for the time being & just concentrate on getting well again. :thumb:

You're bionic now you know!

Hi Cappy,
well, at least it's all done now and probably just as well the surgeon didn't tell you what a 'challenge' this op would be or else you may have worried more. :wink1:

Sorry to hear about the pain and I hope they get that sorted out for you ASAP.
And if you are still nauseous and can't keep the tablets down, ask for anti-sickness suppositories.
I know they are probably not everyone's idea of the ideal way to take meds, but they do work well.

Hi Cappy, hope you are on anti-nausea meds now!

Please don't worry about the LLD. Things will settle in a few weeks. Then you can address it if it's still an issue.

Rest easy now - all done! :yahoo:

Oooh Cappy! That sounds painful! No wonder you're having problems with pain management.

Thanks everyone. It's so helpful to get input from folks who have walked the walk.

The surgeon didn't know how bad it was until he opened me up. The choice of doing the right one first was mine! I'm glad I made that decision though.

Nausea's under control and pain scale is down a bit. Waterworks are OK so I'm hoping that a good night's sleep will help.

Thanks again all.

Small steps forward, Cappy....small steps. Each day will bring improvement. And now you have the worst behind you!!! Hooray!

Hi Cappy, hope you're continuing to improve (I'm sure you are). How long do they ask you to stay in Hospital for in Scotland?
"East, West, Home's Best"
Take care
